Roland System 8 soundscape - when next we meet

- I think for two nights I tried to get my Jupiter 6 to replicate a patch from my JX-3P. It couldn't be done. It got 'close' but it was always lacking something. Finally I got too frustrated and put away the Jupiter 6 and got out the System 8. To my surprise, it was a perfect match. I shouldn't be too surprised because I was using the JX-3P plug out, but I don't find it's a perfect match usually. Well, this patch was perfect... of course, what you're hearing isn't the patch I was working on. I was just going through and really liked this patch I'd made on the System 8. Realizing I just have a lot of fun playing this synth I decided to make this soundscape and record it.
I also listed my JX-3P for sale. I know the System 8 is a digital recreation, but I have, for the past 3 or more years, had more enjoyment out of the System 8 than the JX-3P, and I kind of think that's what matters.
No external FX used.
Always loved the sound of this synth
Yeah, it does sound quite nice!
I'm consistently surprised at how warm this synth can sound. I'm waiting to find one in great shape under $1k.
I was lucky and got this for $950 in 2021. I’ve had it posted on and off for around $1000, but never had any interest. I had added vinyl decals for a “Jupiter 8” look.
@MIDERA I think the sweet spot for it to sell used is probably 800 to 900. I definitely see having one in the future because I like the sound a lot, but I'll wait on the $800 price tag. I got a jupiter xm to use as a rompler for $800. I was going to spring for the iridium, but I honestly feel that for that price I'm better served with buying a few used synths over time. We'll see how it goes. But this baby will definitely find it self in my home at some point. 😁
I have a system 8, and this is magnificent. No really this whole thing was great
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
AWESOME 👍👍👍
Thanks!
I find the JX-3p fairly limited (but it's a nice sound with all sweet spot) so ya good on you for getting rid of it.
Yeah. Plus I don’t like the pg200 that much! But it is all sweet spots, I concur.
Beautiful sounds!
Thanks!
❤❤❤❤
Thanks :)
I'd love to hear what you could pull out of a Novation Summit.
That would be a good one to try too! I think I’m just pining after a Super 6 or Gemini….
Roland needs to release a System 10/12 and make it out of metal with a nice keybed. So good, so good. Sometimes I question Roland's internal decision making. Seem's like their schtick these days is All-in-one beat machines or licensing and subscriptions.
I maintain that they function by making sure they do 2 of 3 things right, but never all 3. Want great UI and build quality? Jupiter X. Want a great engine and hands on? System 8.
Its a fantastic synth- my dream synth really. I don't like the half of owning vintage (although somehow I do own some).
Yes there are some drawbacks. Only 8 note polyphony and those green backlit areas- I really don't like how it looks. The construction could've been better too.
But honestly, no synth is perfect but this one is close IMO.
It’s a fantastic synth for sure. I definitely don’t like the look or feel of it. The keys aren’t great either :/ but I still love the synth.
@@MIDERA I've never liked Roland actions, I think their 80s synth were better in this way though (especially Alpha Juno 2). I
61 key system 16,when?
Yeah, who knows. I’m not Roland. Guessing because they know people want it they won’t make it. Seems like their MO.
@@MIDERAikr. I love the Roland sound as much as anybody but Roland has no interest in happy customers, they’d rather you buy 2 or 3 products to get to 100% of the functionality and sound that should be in 1 product.
The Roland doesn't sound as nice to me as the Ensoniqs and the analog synths.
👍
Ensoniqs... the newest of those is 25+ years old at this stage. The best one IMO- the SQ-80 is nice but is a 35+ year old vintage synth.
@@lundsweden Yes, love the SQ-80!
How would you rate your Super 6 against your Roland stuff?
I don’t have a super 6 so I don’t know! I used one once and don’t remember how it sounded. It felt and looked much better though!
