As pleasing as it was for Northern Ireland - a shame Hagi didn’t go to the ‘86 World Cup. He’d have been one of the “hero’s” on the official film of the tournament. Could possibly say the same about Gullit.

Northern Ireland had great players in those days. They all played in the English league Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Nottingham Forest etc, who were European champions twice.

In Bucharest, the Irish barely crossed the center of the field, Romania over 10 clear scoring opportunities, the goalkeeper made the match of his life, when he was overtaken, the ball hit the crossbar twice and twice they took out the defenders from the goal line, corners 20- 0, it was the most unfair match in the history of the Romanian national team, we were tied at the World Cup, we didn't even need a win, a draw was enough
