Wrong-she stayed another year because 1) she loves UConn, 2) she’s only been able to play 2 full seasons in the 4 she’s been there, and 3) she knows that her legacy won’t be complete without a championship-and with a healthy team (which UConn hasn’t had for 4 years) she can get that done. Nothing to do with Clark-Paige is a singular talent and is just coming off the first healthy offseason she’s had since her freshman year. Healthy, UConn will explode this year, and the Paige many people forgot (if they were even paying attention to start with) will be back.

A couple years ago, I was watching a CZcams video and they mentioned, "Some girl at Iowa" who shot like Steph Curry, and all the NBA players watched her. So I looked up Iowa Women's basketball highlights. Sure enough Caitlin was shooting the lights out.
That was early in Caitlin's Junior year.
Around the Big 10 tournament near the end of Caitlin's junior year, the media seemed to look around and were shocked everyone was watching 'that girl from Iowa'. Suddenly the media was like, "we need to get in on this!"
People forget just how late to the party the media was with Caitlin. Iowa fans knew her, fans of Big ten basketball knew her, but she was under the radar when it came to the media.
As a result, it's like being a fan of a local band and you tell all your friends how great the band is. You watch them play every chance you get, and then a year later their album drops and they become the biggest band in the world... And you are like, "I knew them before they were famous, I 'discovered' them!"
I believe that is how Caitlin fans feel. They were on board before the hype train even left the station.
Paige Buekers came in with all the hype. (Deserved hype, no hate)
Caitlin had to earn everything she got, and as a result her fanbase feels more grassroots.
I think that is where the fan loyalty comes from.

Paige was NEVER better than CC. I spent two years (CC and Paige's freshman and sophomore years of college) arguing in CZcams videos that CC was better than Paige. It was similar to the current CC/Reese drama, except on a much smaller scale. The Paige fans were snobbish, arrogant, know it all, UConn elitist type fans who just could not fathom that little 'ole Caitlin from farm country Iowa could hold a candle to Paige. UConn had really good teams back then and Iowa was rebuilding and UConn had an enormous fan base. So I struggled to win the argument even though CC had slightly better stats than Paige. Things got better for me when CC really took off in the 2nd half of her sophomore year. Then Paige got hurt late that year which destroyed her junior year and CC played GOAT basketball her junior year with a surprise run to the title game. The rest is history as CC went on to make the basketball world forget about Paige since the start of her junior year. So poor CC and the poor CC fans have had to put up with this who's better drama nonsense twice, first with Paige, now with Reese. And CC has won both times.

  • @Vadimony
    @Vadimony Před 25 dny +3

Clark was on the bench because the coach was basically the dad of someone that started over Clark.
Clark was definitely better than the other girl that was basically gifted minutes, her minutes. Clark easily proved that because she's been the best freshman in college--better than Paige by far. She's been like the best guard for her whole career.
You can't make that argument anyway: Paige (a high school player) doesn't even matter. Much like all high school players, they seem better than they are. Paige was on a stacked roster, in a weak conference. Nothing more. Paige has these as freshman career highs:
    Points - 32
    Assists - 14
    Blocks - 2
    Steals - 6
    Rebounds - 9
Clark has scored Paige's career high at least 10 times.
Clark tied with Paige's career high in assists, but has had 10 assists more times in a season than Paige.
Clark had 4 steals as her highest, so Paige won there--however, Paige is playing with two all-conference DEFENSIVE PLAYERS each game.
Clark has had 2 blocks more than Paige has.
And this arguably the best that Paige has ever been in all her years of college to date. Clark's easily eclipsed any "potential" future comps that Paige may have reached in what was the harder conference night-in and night-out that Paige couldn't even dream of seeing.
Paige barely averaged around 19 PPG against non-conference play. Even with her having taken so many shots per game. Clark's outscoring her, and outplaying her against actual competition without any "effective" WNBA caliber players around her.
They definitely overvalued Paige's career as a freshman:
Wasn't even top 10 in scoring, assists, PER (odd that Clark was), or any stat at all, for some reason--but thankfully she was able to "win" enough to get good Win Shares (even though Clark was better than her on Offensive Win Shares despite being on a weak team) and it just shows how badly they overrate players on stacked teams in college.
Clark's worst year was in fact her "freshman" year and that is only on account of a bad team around her--by her Junior Year, she's pretty much put the whole league away and out of reach--with her senior year putting her in legendary status. Paige is basically trying to even compete against Clark's worst year--which she's failing at.

Am I the only one that had to Google Paige because of this title? WNBA players are obviously not liking that the bar has been raised to a level never seen before. It takes a lot of talent to get NBA fans and especially men to get excited to watch a player in the WNBA. And that is not a bad thing for the league. They either have to work harder on their game or whine and complain about not being fair. Let's see who rises to Clarks level and eventually beyond or who keeps complaining with excuses of unfairness.

Players come and go all the time and we have no idea how their careers may unfold moving forward regardless of their talent. Look at all the young talented players that were quickly compared to MJ in the NBA and then they eventually fell off for some unforeseen reasons. I don’t like crowning players before they actually win a championship and of course put in the body of work over a reasonable amount of time. This is why as of now I don’t have a issue with folks making comparisons with Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady because Mahomes is clearly on his way to being one of the best or the greatest to ever play in the NFL. That player does not still exist. She got injured and that is life right? saying she should be this does not really matter any more. Highschool Paige Bueckers what do you mean she is Senior at UConn not in High School so what are you talking about.

Do you know why she was never, and will never be better than Caitlin? As a point guard, her assist is awful compared to Caitlin. And you know what? No point has ever and will ever combine shooting and passing like Caitlin as a point guard. That's why no point guard is ever like Caitlin.

@@WavesEntertainments You obviously don’t understand statistics-scoring numbers alone aren’t definitive. One of the areas Paige has always towered over CC is in scoring efficiency-CC makes more shots, but misses a higher percentage of the shots she takes. Paige makes more of the shots she takes. Always has. She also has always had a better assist-to-turnover than CC-CC has lots of assists, but also turns the ball over more. The two cancel each other out, which is the reason there’s an “assist-to-turnover” statistic to measure it. Paige is a better ball handler. And she’s the definitive point guard.

Geno ruined Paige. Took a Magic Johnson talent player and made her into a fraction of a James Worthy type player.

UConn has gotten so used to running over little competition in the Big East recently. Last year, there were THREE Big East teams in the NCAA tournament. The Big 10 had more than double that: SEVEN. It’s not easy, but a whole lot more manageable, to win your conference each year when you don’t have the competition that so many other schools have in their conferences.

I think Geno is able to draw such a high level of players, no one player really gets shine very much, because of the talent around them. That’s part of the reason that UCONN has been so successful. Iowa did not have the same level of talent, so CC was allowed to shine and lift her teammates to be their best. Obviously Geno knows how to coach or he wouldn’t have drawn the recruits that he does. Unfortunately it doesn’t translate to box office. Look at the outstanding UCONN players in the league past and present.

Paige is skinny. Can she get threw this season playing at the highest level? Paige would be the perfect compliment to Catlin. Paige moves with out the ball and adult women cant keep up. Paige could get 15 Clark assists a game EASY. She is that good. Will Paige hold up under the physical abuse in the WNBA? I really like Paige.

I remember 4 years ago CZcams was filled with Paige highlights. Then it seemed like she disappeared. I guess this was do to injury.

Years ago, Marquette Coach Al McQuire had a theory that there could be only one star on a team. The other players had to be good, but each had a role to perform for the star. If you had multiple players looking for acclaim, you didn't have a team. Clark was the star, no doubt, for Iowa. Paige can perform a superlative role for UCONN, but she is one among many at UCONN who have done it. I wonder what Paige would have accomplished if she had gone to the U. of Minnesota instead? She could have gone head to head against Clark. She would have been financially better off for sure. 9:10

It is sad when a person peaks in high school. I’ve gone back before and watched the IowaYConn game their freshman year. CC was already the better player. Paige had the better team. What none of us knew was how fragile Paige is. She will definitely break in her rookie season if Alyssa Thomas does her the way she’s done Angel and CC.

Paige has been ruined by gino already. She plays that old school basketball now. Nobody wants to watch that. Gino did Caitlin a favor. Lisa allows her players to be themselves. Gino is a system guy because thats what has always worked.
