Here's the salutes that I picked up on when Ren nods to his musical influences. Ren's giving homage to Barrington Levy & also Damian Marley's "Welcome To Jamrock" in his new opening (In the streets they call it MURDER) . Ren also gives homage to Dr. Dre with the guitar riff Dre's "Next Episode" ft. Snoop Dog. Also, Ren's guitar solo was an homage to another one of Ren's musical influences Django Reinhardt. Reinhardt was probibly one of the most famous Jazz guitarist who; if I'm not mistaken, was actually the 1st person to bring Jazz to the UK. In my humble opinion, that was very much a 30-40's Jazz riff reminiscent of Reinhardt's music. 💖 Cheers ✌✌😁.

And Ren used the "In the streets they call it murther" (which is originally from Ina Kamoze's song Reggae a World - Damien Marley used it as a sample in Welcome to Jamrock) at the start of the Walking On The Moon/No Diggity busking mashup he did with Sam Tompkins. It's not listed in the video title, but he includes some Jamrock in that mashup beyond the one line. 👍
And apparently murther is a slang word for mixing music with pot.
Ren claims to feel most comfortable singing and playing guitar, and sees himself more in that role than as a rapper. 🧐
I think that it's interesting that over all the Ren reactions I've seen (an embarrassingly high number) it is clear that Ren has resonated firstly with an older audience (40/50/60/70yrs plus) who have been and are spreading the word. When the kids catch on Ren will have the opportunity to really shake things up.

I’m not a musician but I love music, your explanations of what is going on from a technical point of view is brilliant for me. My daughter went to school with Ren so it’s great to see him taking off as he is right now.
That was great. This performance is becoming one of my favourites from Ren. His musical instincts (and ability) I think are just on another level, the way he can drop in these different referential elements in, mix up the cadences and inflections and it all comes together to make sense as a whole. It's like the music is his personal plaything.

❤Oh man, there’s so much that I want to say! Besides the fact that Ren is a genius, you’re right , I don’t think he intentionally tries to appeal to anyone…he is just true to himself and his love/understanding of music. He’s said before that he was born to do this and you can see it in early clips from when he was a kid. You mentioned that perhaps the stars have aligned for him in this moment…I actually think that whether the stars aligned or not, it’s his destiny and he has been chosen to share his vision of love and humanity to others through his profound ability to express himself musically. I don’t know how/why he appeared in my life, but I do know that it was meant to be.❤

Did you notice that Ren, while fooling around with his vocals and lyrics, in the meantime, also strictly directing the second guitarist with his right hand and head?
A deep analysis - talent appreciating talent.
And I think Ren is very aware of the opportunity he has since Hi Ren. He’s stated that he feels the pressure now to live up to the bar he has set himself - and even in Hi Ren when he says “maybe I’ll be remembered, for doing something special with my life” about the music he will leave behind. He also says in “Heretic” that he knows he’s a force of nature.
He’s a very deep thinker in my book - maybe because the time his illness has forced him to take has given him the space to do so, but even from his earliest recordings, he had already honed his talent and skill and with clever lyrics - it’s just he started at a high level, and has continued to climb.

The guitar solo is clearly inspired by Django Reinhardt, likely he's referencing the tune "Minor Swing" here.

Yep... this was written on guitar first... he writes a lot based on the guitar! Other times... it's him playing with drum and bass lines!
People have no idea just how difficult that is to do... for me at least... (40 years of rock guitar and I can't do it!) To pick a totally different melody over your song, while Rapping like that!

I do believe that Ren believes in his legacy potential. He even references it in some of his lyrics. Especially how he is bending and mixing genres, excelling in storytelling and performance, and demonstrating what an independent artist can accomplish. His passion is incredible.
But I also agree with Kevin that Ren is pursuing it from a genuine place and doing it because he feels he has to do just to be him. He has a pure love and passion for the music. It isn’t a means to an end, but how he lives and breathes.
In a way, I think you were both saying a similar thing, but from a different approach. Either way, Ren is a game changer, in a very positive way.

Wow Ren is quite a genius!!! Soo many layers and how the he'll does he rap a different beat while doing the dre part, insane!!!! And then yeah love all the other different nods to jazz, swing, so many layers awesome !!!
I´m quite convinced he´s making many songs on the guitar first. I.e. the way that somewhat scattered sample in "Sick Boi" goes, it sounds absolutely like a guitar sequence translated 1:1 into an electronic scheme.

It's such a joy watching others geek out the same way I do with a Ren track ❤ I'm by no means an expert on ANY genre of music, but stuff from late 80's to early 2000's are my era - the years when I went clubbing and danced (badly) to anything and everything. This was a really great reaction. I enjoyed it so much. I agree with the fella with the hat, even when he produced freckled angels he said he needed to do it because he thought he was going to die before he was thirty, not to make him famous but because he needed to do it. Like you say he has to do it that way he couldn't do it any other way.

Nope! I mean, I can’t speak for this song specifically but as for his other acoustic tracks he always produces the actual song first and then reinvents them into acoustic version so I would assume this is the same.
Most notably would be ‘Animal Flow’ which was a beat he started on with just tom drums and then years later recorded the video, then a month or two later decided to create his acoustic version
