  • MIT engineers have transformed spinach plants into sensors that can detect explosives and wirelessly relay that information to a handheld device similar to a smartphone. (Learn more: news.mit.edu/2016/nanobionic-s...)

    I used to think that communicating with other species would the most important accomplishment that science can potentially do until realising that all a plant or dog would say is "more food please" "more light please" "more sex please" "more attention please" with more clarity, accuracy and precision than they have been able to do so before. I believe this is the case because that's what humans do but with more complexity and with a mixture of honesty and deception.

    It would probably go off every time there is a thunder storm as the rain has dissolved nitrogen compounds in it. The compounds that are formed in lightning plasma and are concentrated enough to stimulate plant growth.

    Don't be the guy with the raspberry pi camera walking around a minefield scanning leaves. Seems a shock proof explosion sensor and transmitter on the camera would be needed if a guy is walking around on top of a mine field. No more camera or guy but they could post more stats.

    First, I thought: well, what's new here, plants communicat with environment because they form it - because they are environment and pure laws of chemistry and physics (with bacterias). Second, now I get it: it's all about plants sending SMS to people ! New level of understanding Nature !!
    Btw, what manufacturer they prefer, Apple or Samsung, or something else ?

      yea its not like they just walk around and can scan spinach everywhere. they had to implement nanotubes into them in order for this to work but sure why use standart test kids if you can goof around with infrared cameras and nanotubes

    • @holyelisha
      @holyelisha Před 7 lety

      what? So you're saying its useless cause you have to implement/put nanotubes inside them? KNOWLEDGE IS KNOWLEDGE NO MATTER HOW SMALL .... Potential applications are astromical
