- MIT engineers have transformed spinach plants into sensors that can detect explosives and wirelessly relay that information to a handheld device similar to a smartphone. (Learn more: news.mit.edu/2016/nanobionic-s...)

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is an independent, coeducational, privately endowed university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Our mission is to advance knowledge; to educate students in science, engineering, and technology; and to tackle the most pressing problems facing the world today. We are a community of hands-on problem-solvers in love with fundamental science and eager to make the world a better place.
The MIT CZcams channel features videos about all types of MIT research, including the robot cheetah, LIGO, gravitational waves, mathematics, and bombardier beetles, as well as videos on origami, time capsules, and other aspects of life and culture on the MIT campus. Our goal is to open the doors of MIT and bring the Institute to the world through video.

So does this mean, I can now talk to my weed plant?
P1relliz I already do that
will plants be able to post memes on the internet?
hahahaha
Yeah it's proven and now in 2020 they already learn how to use tiktok.
Very funny. Shut the fuck up.
@@iamnothere1456 hey
@@BonaBonana you literally have a bakugo pfp shut up
pls make a app on mit news and helpfull articles
I used to think that communicating with other species would the most important accomplishment that science can potentially do until realising that all a plant or dog would say is "more food please" "more light please" "more sex please" "more attention please" with more clarity, accuracy and precision than they have been able to do so before. I believe this is the case because that's what humans do but with more complexity and with a mixture of honesty and deception.
I wish I went to MIT
Plants are living beings. Thanks for sharing.
A Botanist's nightmare:
ALERT: Dog whizzed on your flowerbed again...
Seems awesome actually you could instantly ph balance your crops and eventually end up with ultra-high quality crops.
That is so so so cool! Wow!!!
my mind just blown,..
amazing!
THANK YOU.
This seems like the trailer to an FPS-Horror game involving plants and fungi
Genius!
I would like to interview a student from MIT in the field of astronomy, is there any way anyone knows of? I need to for a project. Thank You
It would probably go off every time there is a thunder storm as the rain has dissolved nitrogen compounds in it. The compounds that are formed in lightning plasma and are concentrated enough to stimulate plant growth.
Never thought of this.
Now we need a Vegetarian for kill it.😂
Plants will be my new best friends
SO FRICCIN COOL! :D
how to get into mit
Don't be the guy with the raspberry pi camera walking around a minefield scanning leaves. Seems a shock proof explosion sensor and transmitter on the camera would be needed if a guy is walking around on top of a mine field. No more camera or guy but they could post more stats.
Nice!!!.
I can talk to and hear plants and mushrooms
Any pilot with moss, lichen and algae? . . . Mice?
I dont think people who watch this kind of videos need to be told what a Raspberry Pi is.
Not people who come to this video directly, but this video could be linked in an article or such where the audience would require the additional explanation.
I get that the pie is raspberry, but does that mean the plant is a raspberry bush? I assume they have to be the same kind to communicate with the same language.
Hmm, do raspberries communicate with zerbets?
lbos: I would like to study your psychological dailies. Your comment is not about information applied is it?! Anyone else untruthfully annoyed besides these 20? very interesting! 20 x the unknown + duration = future societal
(FULL spectrum) cognitive distortion. Much love to all.
you havent spent enough time reading the comments on this kind of videos
carbooooon nanoooo tubes
The end is the most important! Unfortunately, we have to present for military applications, first!
Wow
First, I thought: well, what's new here, plants communicat with environment because they form it - because they are environment and pure laws of chemistry and physics (with bacterias). Second, now I get it: it's all about plants sending SMS to people ! New level of understanding Nature !!
Btw, what manufacturer they prefer, Apple or Samsung, or something else ?
you've got to be kidding me, right? .......
Believed it until it had an email address.
Plants can be anti inflammatory. They recognize inflammation and protect us from this.
Well Shaman have been talking to plants long before now... but without carbon nano tubes:/
Who is going to plant these leaves in a mindfield????
Engineering is about Doing.
Who came here after Google tulip April fool's prank?
Me
What's the plant for? Why don't you just stick those nanotubes in the ground?
***** Because it collects it all in its roots I guess? That is kind of clever.
no its not, you were right: using plants is silly and useless.
cause the plants are already there? less work? no need to remove plants? easier on environment? etc?
holyelisha
yea its not like they just walk around and can scan spinach everywhere. they had to implement nanotubes into them in order for this to work but sure why use standart test kids if you can goof around with infrared cameras and nanotubes
what? So you're saying its useless cause you have to implement/put nanotubes inside them? KNOWLEDGE IS KNOWLEDGE NO MATTER HOW SMALL .... Potential applications are astromical
Jees they made plants seem 74 percentile human iq
Almost nine intelligent then 3/4 human pop...
vegans gotta eat air now
Could you try my creation, thanks! research circuit solver on the playstore!
so its not really the plant talking, its more you injecting the plant with stuff we can communicate with.
I thought it was going to be like "Hey, i'm a cabbage. I dream to be an MIT student" kind of communication
this is like condemning vegans to seppuku 🤔😱!
first
This is plant enslavement.lol not communication
See, this is the opposite of George Bush. Anyone can hurt a plant or animal and change their growth. I am sad. I am tired of being around you Warren, Bill, Alice, and Sergey.
