Brandon Lee's performance from the original is timeless.
I need to see it. As for this Film, I don;t like the of this Crow.
Honestly, would it have been as successful if it wasn't for his real demise?

T-Bird's lil homie Nipple Eye.
YUP. as does this new ''eric"...btw why is no one noticing that the girl's name is now ''julie" apparently....this movie could not be a more clear rip off and transparent cash grab to literally cash in on a tragedy while also destroying the original story. They literally ONLY kept the name ''eric"in there to generate controversy. Everything else they changed. Story, Girl's name, lore...etc. It is 100% BS.
@@andrabook8758her name is still Shelly, but that’s definitely not going to save this movie. Honestly if it was a different character, I’d at least give her a pass.
It really does not sound like it in the trailer though. I keep listening to it and to me it sounds like he's saying ''Julie", not 'Shelley". I think initially they were going to not keep the names of the characters either but then decided to go full-grift-mode and HAD to try to keep the names and maximize the controversy clicks. I'm so tired of this BS. They keep pulling these stupid stunts. Also, the characters are completely different. So it acctually would have made sense to give them different names for real, not just via bad dubbing scenes. @@sirimity
Good one 😂😂😂😂😂
Yup lol
The Crow is a classic. Did Hollywood learn nothing from the remakes of Robocop and Total Recall?
My buddy pretty much said the exact same thing like 16 minutes ago
No, they did not
I know, right. Yay! Another reboot or remake or whatever. Let's just stop having creative ideas and just recycle old ideas that worked.
Those were both PG-13, this will be rated R my man!
These remakes are money laundering schemes. There is no other explanation. They lose money. Repeatedly.
'Florida Joker walks onto the set of John Wick' - ding ding ding!

Yet another movie that doesn’t need to be remade
I absolutely agree with you
Well, no movie ever NEEDS to be remade so…. Your point is moot 😑
Good thing it's not a remake
@@gabrielleroux2333I disagree there are a lot of movies that have aged very poorly and by updating them with modern technology and forsight of the problems with the original film can be vastly improved unfortunately most of the time they don't actually improve the original film

Hollywood: LOOK A CROW REBOOT!
Everyone: "Victims, aren't we all!"
Nice.
Victim#1 was me watching this trailer 😮💨
When you want to comment on the new one remember there’s people that have never seen the original and weren’t born then and to them the new one looks cool with a transformation that looks and feels better than the new one, I don’t know Brandon Lee because all that happened before I was born, I love it but a lot of you old heads are saying the new one sucks but it makes more sense and looks better than the old one. I downloaded it off a site and OMG it looks so old movie ish with awful cgi and so boring. The new crow looks better already in my opinion. Review it on its own merit or demerit.
Right. I'm looking forward to it
Its based on a comic book, jackass. Its not a reboot. Its an adaptation of the comic. The first film isn't the 'original' "The Crow."
I think the bigger issue is that it's the 'modern audiences' version of The Crow. The original is such a personal, heart wrenching story (both the film and the comic) and this feels like it was written by a guy who's never had a truly bad day in his life.
Nipple eye….i didn’t even notice it….and now I can’t unsee it ever again. 😂 thanks Jeremy

RIP Brandon Lee 👏🏾 You'll always be my Crow
RIP BRANDON LEE
To me The Crow was more than just a timeless classic. It was my childhood and tweenhood. The Crow was Brandon Lee's breakout performance, his passion project, his grave. It was Fun Boy's actor's guilt over what happened. It was Brandon Lee's stunt double getting Latex placed in his face to look like Brandon so he could finish the movie. It was the crew and cast finishing that movie with the new goal of honoring Brandon. If this movie does well at all, it will be because of Bill. Hollywood should've left this alone for all the reasons stated above.
I love The Crow too but we can’t let Brandon’s death be a reason it’s never allowed to be touch again (especially the Eric Draven version). It’s been 30 years, enough time has passed that we can do a remake now. If it sucks, oh well we still have the original. If it’s good, congratulations we have the first good Crow movie since the original.
@@Linklex7But there are plenty of graphic novels within The Crow series that they could have done without doing a remake of the original. Hollywood doing a remake is essentially them holding a middle finger up to the original, and, with it, Brandon Lee, and screaming out, "Fuck you! We can do better!" It's an insult to his memory in every way possible.
sorry for reaching out to this comment and cancel me if you wanna, but i don’t think those are good enough reasons for the crow to not be remade. Brandon died making the movie sure but (and forgive me for saying this) BUT that is absolutely no reason for anyone to be upset about the remake. Obviously the movie isn’t going to be as good as the original. but it still could be a good movie. yall need to think about that
@@comicsexpired764 Well, personally, I think cancelling people under any circumstances is ridiculous, so you don't have to worry about that, at least as far as I'm concerned!
That said, one, by remaking this film, they're essentially taking a look at the original, throwing it a HUGE middle finger, and going, "Fuck you! We can do better!" And that's a TERRIBLE insult to Brandon's memory! That alone makes it more than worth boycotting, because seriously, to hell with anyone for doing that to him!
But beyond that, this just looks like a horrible film. This rendition of The Crow looks like Jared Leto's (Suicide Squad) version of the Joker trying WAY too hard to be Goth! The actress that they got for Shelly is pretty enough and a decent enough actress, but she doesn't look or feel anything like I remember Shelly looking or acting like in the graphic novel.
Plus, the film itself is entirely too polished to ever be true to the gritty realness of the graphic novel it's based on. In it, Eric was actually a junkie who self-harmed, aspects of his character that Brandon wanted to put in, but the director wouldn't let him, so he resorted to taping his arms with black tape as tribute to that fact. Here, they completely ignored that fact altogether, without even track marks on his arms or wrapping them in black tape in tribute to this deeply important aspect of who Eric is, and instead gave us an overly polished, high budget Hollywood film that is supposed to be closer to the comics than the original, but instead gutted the soul from it entirely. If the original had never been made, and I saw the previews for this one, I would simply think it looks like a terrible film--maybe mediocre at best--and not see it simply because it just looks like a seriously bad film. And that sucks, because I actually have a HUGE fondness for crows, and love the idea of them serving as a connection between our world and the afterlife. A movie has to look seriously bad for it to have that theme, and me not want to see it. This film, even when taken entirely on its own merits, without the original being taken into account, just looks that bad!
But add in all of the other factors--especially the absolutely terrible "Fuck You!" they gave to Brandon by making this (that, by far, most of all!), and I just have zero desire to see it. It's just a terrible film, on multiple levels.
@@crow_featherI really enjoyed reading this! Definitely learned some more about The Crow. But I also feel as though the idea of recreating the iconic movie isn’t a slap in the face to the original. Don’t get me wrong, it definitely would’ve been interesting to see a different version. And it does feel as though Hollywood is getting a bit lazy sometimes (that’s a whole other conversation) However, there’s nothing wrong, in my opinion, with getting different perspectives on set concepts. New interpretations. I don’t think this will be a bad film at all but I guess we’ll see!
I absolutely agree. The minute I saw the style choice for Eric, I thought he looked like the person Eric would be seeking vengeance against.
The reason I think I cared so much about Brandon Lees Eric was that he was likeable and had a sweetness to him. Despite his violent acts, you rooted for him. It felt justified. Eric and Shelly, though depicted as gothic in their lifestyle, which would have been seen as quite alternative at the time, they were "good people". They looked after a neglected kid. They were animal lovers, and the dynamic between them was tender and loving. They died because they were campaigning against tenancy eviction in a super corrupt city. Even though you only saw them together for 10 minutes tops, you cared.
My worry is that casting them with more of a dysfunctional or toxic Joker/Harley Quinn vibe will mean they won't be likeable enough to care about. It will just end up being a boring shoot 'em up.
Take this comment to the top
That was my feeling too. The trailer seemed to do the 'see they are having sex so you know they are in a relationship! You like them now right? Because sex!'. It didn't show any actual fun moments.
@@1faithchick7 Well, technically they DID show that in the trailer, but yeah. I see where you're coming from. It looked more like something Funboy would do. lol
I definitely see a lot of things in this trailer that kind of ruins The Crow. In the original movie, Eric and Shelly were seen as innocent young lovers who did absolutely nothing wrong like how the sad story intended to tell whereas in the remake, you see them in a place that kind of looks like a Psychiatric Ward and you see them having sex which begs the question 'Are they ACTUALLY not as innocent in this remake?'
And when the guy says, 'But you're running out of time to save her.' SAVE her...? Bruh, she's GONE gone. Now I COULD be overthinking this and maybe they're just doing a subplot where Eric has to save Shelly's soul or something, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a revenge story. Even though it doesn't bring Shelly back (and the same can be said to others who have lost the ones they care about), our boy Eric wants to give his victims a taste of their own medicine since they're cold and heartless people like in the Princess Bride where Inigo Montoya seeks revenge against the six-fingered man who murdered his father.
When Eric and Shelly were murdered in the remake, it looked so quick and painless which kind of irritates me. In the original movie, they were murdered by these psychopaths in the most horrifying way which really makes you feel sorry for the character, and it feels all the more satisfying to see the criminals get what's coming to them.
I know they're just trying something new, but you know what they say, 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'.
You nailed it, the Gothic element was essential and it’s completely missing. Brandon Lee’s version looked stylistic. His character was a kind soul but seeking justice
That was the first thing I noticed. The second was the weird relationship in the new one. It just feels odd and completely focused on sex instead of... you know, an actual relationship? This trailer didn't feel like I would care about any of the people in it.
I love that you mentioned that the city was almost a character in the first film - I love the movie BECAUSE of that city. The external shots of the model city, the dive bar they hang out in, their 'shitty' apartment which is so awesome with the wooden floors and attic window. The dark streets...even when something takes place during the day it's still dark.
The city that doesn't seem like any real city, because it's that modern Gothic.
It's the most Batman city I've ever seen. I could see Crow working in that world.
It's supposed to be Detroit. It would have been kinda nice to see a gothic near future take on Detroit instead of the usual treatment of random warehouses and apartment roofs we tend to get from depictions.
@@HylonomusExactly. I don't remember hearing about any other city having a "devil's night" besides Detroit.
@@3mrwright the original comic was written to take place in Detroit and is loosely based on real events. Not the gothic revenant thing, but I believe the author's girlfriend was murdered on devil's night.
Pantera, STP, Rage Against the Machine, NiN, Thrill Kill Cult!
The soundtrack to the original was also a character in the movie.
Don’t forget “Burn” from The Cure
I hadn't noticed the nipple eye until you pointed it out. Thanks...I can't unsee it now! It will haunt my nightmares!
The 1994 movie was a perfect mix of grunge rock, gothic setting and an unforgettable performance by Brandon Lee. He was able to convey the emotional pain of the character. The new movie seems to be marketed for Gen-Z, who may appreciate the John wick style and the bloody violence more than a deeply moving story that you can resonate with.
To appreciate a 'deeply moving story that you can resonate with' you need an attention span that is longer than a TicTok clip. So yeah, I'd say your right about Gen-Z being the target audience.
I doubt that Gen-Z will like this movie any more than other generations. It's aesthetic doesn't resonate with the themes that most of us like and it looks too edgy. The OG movie was perfect for its time and continues to be a great watch while this movie just looks like one of those mediocre reboots from the 2000s or 2010s.
@@TruTraeI think you’re right, John Wick and Eric Draven actually have a lot in common, you can easily get away with John Wick style action with the original gothic style but the comic and the original movie had that style for a reason and losing that is a dangerous choice even if you’re target audience is the TikTok community members of generation Z.
To be fair the original movie was pretty violent as well with blood and gore on screen. The action wasn't as slick but it was still pretty good for it's time.

I’ll start by saying I love The Crow. And being from North Carolina and having worked on the soundstages where it was filmed it has a very special place in my heart. And while it certainly didn’t need to be remade; I understand why they went with a different character design. This is a case of damned no matter what you do. If they had done a shot for shot remake including set and costume design ala Van Sant’s Psycho it would’ve been even more pointless. So while it may be an unpopular opinion, I’m glad for the shift in design and move away from soundstages to locations. I’ll judge the final project. Skarsgard is a damn good actor. He should be able to pull this off.

The Crow did not need to be remade. It stands out as a cinematic masterpiece and classic for various reasons that cannot be duplicated. This trailer hurt to watch.

Adding tons of Blood and Gore doesn't make a movie edgy or even dark ! it just make it look cheap and gratuitous. What made the '94 movie a classic was the mood, tone and overall atmosphere.
Yeah but that was the 90's times have changed lol
Well,a movie certainly doesn't automatically look cheap cause it has gore in it,it can work with good story, context and how it's shot. That said, this will likely not be that. Both The crow and Brandon Lee should rest in peace.
@@HOOD3DKXNG87 Youre right!.........Theyre worse.
@@HOOD3DKXNG87 The Crow (the comic) is a product of the 90s dark and edgey atmosphere. It's dated to that time, and doesn't really need an update.
Not to mention a soundtrack that is sure 🔥🔥🔥 to this day.
The original Crow (1994) had a really gritty look to it, and while this Remake has ultra violence, it kind of screams more John Wick than The Crow. Part of the Crow is that he’s literally supposed to be undead. Instead this just comes across as a dude with powers that he can’t die like Wolverine.
There are a lot of things that seem to be missing (and were missing from the original film"). The author had experienced this kind of loss. The Crow's face paint isn't accidental, it's putting on a happy face to hide the pain. Additionally in the comic the wounds didn't heal. This is an important aspect of the character.
Brandon Lee, He Literally became the crow during that movies filming, very eerie and immortalizing. It will never be replicated, and should be put in the NFR.

You pretty much said what I was thinking while watching the trailer. Hopefully, it's good, but the OG Crow will always be my favorite.
Haven't seen this channel in a few years - and just wanted to compliment Jeremy on his stylistic change. He looks like a badass!
The Crow is a movie that truly couldn't have existed outside of the era it was made in, a product of it's time in all the best ways. I'm willing to give this one a shot, but my expectations are pretty damn high. The original is a personal favorite and really important to me personally.
Do you mean low? As in you don't expect much from this movie?
I'm going to avoid this for basically the same reason.
This is not a remake anyone asked for, and the way to not get these is to not watch them.
Wholeheartedly disagree. The Crow can work in any time, it just depends on which version of the spirit you choose to use. If they had made him anyone other than Eric Draven everyone would be hyped as fuck for this.
Why give them their money? If the original is a personal favorite and important to you, how on earth do you think it'll live up? This is exactly the reason why we're only getting shitty remakes, because people pay to see them.
High budget films are just simply too clean nowadays. When I think of The Crow, I think of gothic, industrial, 90s atmosphere. It would take an amazing director to transport us back to that time.
"This is an adaptation of the comic book" Ya, and you know what? They effed that up too.
Nothing from the trailer is from the comic book
If they would have adapted this to "The Crow: Wild Justice" then Bill would have been perfectly cast.
T Bird being black is accurate...thats about all that I can tell so far.@@bloandon
Yeah seems that plot leak from months ago was spot on. Nothing like the original comic at all
Yep. That's why it's a cult classic....huh?
I feel you there man. No high expectations for this one!
Am I the only one that noticed his crow makeup is pretty much just the Pennywise design but with black?
Pennywise Angel of Vengeance 😂
Hollywood once again doesn't know when to leave a masterpiece alone. Nothing will ever touch the original and we all know it!
The old one does not go away
New comic adaptation not a remake
People are forgetting that The Crow wasn't just about Eric, it had the little girl Sarah as the anchor there. She was, I feel, the emotional guide for the audience. And Eric.
I wouldn't be shock if they drop that character, the trailer didn't even show she's in the movie
I literally spit up when he mentioned the eye/nipple tattoo...🤣🤣
Nostalgia can be a hell of a drug for some people and trust me I love the crow the character, the aesthetic, everything.

DMC was the exact thing I thought of when the new Eric Draven look was revealed
And that was a good game. Very different from the original but enjoyable in its own right.
All I see is Florida joker
@@spardaspawn481 I'm sorry, but no it wasn't. Though if you liked it thats fine.
I'm with Spardaspawn on this one. DMC was a great game. But it would have gotten significantly less flack if they didn't try to make it part of the Devil May Cry franchise, or made it about different characters. Which is quite appropriate for what we're talking about here. This might have been a fine enough movie... if it wasn't Eric Draven.
I thought DMC was decent. The first time I played it I hated it but I replayed with the view that it was a homage to devil may cry with Dante growing up from a rebellious kid to the legendary demon hunter.
Brandon Lee can't be imitated or replicated!! They should've left "The Crow" where it was....A timeless classic that everyone loves!!
But he is gone now. Maybe you need to move on and give way to the new generation. Brandon Lee cannot be forever the crow the same as Christopher Reeves can't be forever Superman.
I don’t love it
@@edgarr9495
Honestly, Christopher Reeve (there is no "s" at the end of his last name) is the only one who has managed to play a really good Clark Kent and an excellent Superman. Some has played a good Clark and an acceptable Superman, but Reeve will always be the #1 Superman. Also, newer Supermans doesn't feel as either Clark Kent or Superman. Wrong vibes all around.
Here is what they were going for with Eric’s look…
According to Rupert Sanders, the character's appearance is drawn not from the James O'Barr source-material comic book series, nor tragic star Brandon Lee's take on the character in Alex Proyas' original film. Instead, the director considered his star's natural assets, and gazed into his own past. "I think the beauty of Bill is that he has a disturbing beauty, and as he transforms through his loss he becomes this thing that even he can't control," Sanders told Vanity Fair. "It's that famous line: 'Whoever fights monsters must be careful that they don't become one.' That look was me in the '90s when we were squat-raving in London, [mixed with some modern influences] like Post Malone and Lil Peep. I hope people who are 19 today look at him and go, 'That guy is us.'" Sanders added that this image is from "the moment we realize bad things are coming."
I know a bunch of you are gonna think I’m nuts but I personally like the look. So look, we all know that this movie will never live up to the original movie and quite honestly I think this movie was doomed from day one because first off they couldn’t find anyone to play Eric cuz all the guys kept backing out cuz they felt “unworthy” or didn’t think they could do the character any justice. The other reason is die hard fans of the original are never gonna give this movie a chance cuz in there minds the original is the greatest, which is true and the critics are just gonna compare the sh*t out of the two movies and pick apart every tiny detail! I will be shocked if this movie scores anything higher then a 60! So basically anyone that signed on to do this movie signed onto a god damn suicide mission. I personally don’t know how I feel about the movie so far, I mean I’ve watched the trailer over 5 times now and I’m still not sure what to think about it?! I don’t know if I’m happy with the fact that they are doing a totally different story line or if I’m mad that they changed everything except a few small details? What I do know is that if I do decide to watch the movie I have to take the movie for what it is and not compare it to the original, because if I sit there and do nothing but compare the two movies throughout the whole thing it WILL suck. So I guess my advice for people and hell for myself even is to just go into the movie with an open mind and not to compare the movies, because at the end of the day we all know the original movie is the greatest and Brandon’s version of Eric will always be the most iconic and greatest of all time. Not to mention if Brandon was alive today I don’t think he’d want his fans bashing the movie and cast.
Loved the original and the 2nd one. The lore is also great the fact that there can be many crows. Can’t wait to see this one.

I LOVE The Crow franchise
2:59 This is the point I think most OG fans of The Crow can all get behind
Its not as simple as fans having unrealistic expectations. Its just that The Crow 1994 was such an iconic film and the story of Eric Draven is so special to many fans. If this had been a new character and a new story, Crow fans would be a lot more receptive and a lot less critical. There's nothing wrong with creativity and vision. But when regarding iconic characters from Cult Classics, its very difficult for fans to be on board a vision that appears to be a far-reaching departure from what fans fell in love with. Eric Draven was more than just a character in a story, he was a symbol, performed beautifully by Brandon Lee
Long ago when I was too young to watch the Crow, my cousin had us watch The Crow. I liked it but most of the themes went over my head. Turns out that during the movie there is a scene with a woman who is addicted to drugs and the main character purges her body of the addiction and sends her to her daughter who needs her. What I didn’t know was that my cousin’s mother was horribly addicted to drugs and every day my cousin wished that she would be healed and he would have a normal life.
Here’s hoping the movie can make such an impact on the modern day as the original did back then.

2014 huh? Jeremy traveled 10 years in the past for this one. 😜
i know right 😆
Good thing there’s the 30th anniversary 4K Blu-ray Disc up for preorder on Amazon for those who still cherish physical copies.
“Nipple eye” really took me out fr 😂😂😂 almost cackled at work
My thoughts exactly. All of this!
Yoshimitsu and Devil May Cry reference in one video?!
This is why I watch your content.
Actually, fuck it, time to stop fence sitting, subscribed 😃
Welcome!
@@laviniasnow4494 Thank you. Longtime lurker. I've always pretty closely aligned with his opinions on movies, so yeah, good fit :)
"Skank! Skanks dead!!
I feel like a little fish on a big fucken hook!"
Nothing gonna beat the 1st one with Lee's emotional delivery, Skank, TBird, the bad ass villain leader with kick ass voice (name escapes me)
Top Dollar, played by Michael Wincott, and they never actually say his name in the movie.
Top Dollar is one of my favorite villains of the 90s, and Michael Wincott is irreplaceable.
Also, Ernie Hudson as Officer Albrecht tied Top Dollar for best character in the movie. "At least he didn't do none of that walking away in the wind shit. I hate that."
It’s a little worm on a big fuckin hook….. well boy, your mama must be damn proud of you.
Michael Wincott 🙌 his VOICE!
Worm
I love that Yoshimitsu Tekken reference
You're absolutely correct. Every remake of a main character we hated (DCM Dante, BatmanvsSuperman Joker) they gave us in one character.
Whyyyyyyy
Brandon Lee's subtle insanity performance is a hard act to follow.
That new “John Wick” trailer looks interesting, cool to see Keanu back into action movies ! Hope it’s good enough to revitalize his career.
Here's a crazy tidbit. The director of the John Wick movies was in fact Brandon's stunt double in The Crow. The fill in scenes, EG walking towards the broken window after he puts the make up on where we only see his back, or any of the scenes in the apartment that were in shadow in the same scenes was him. They had such similar body types, he filled in.
I thought Mark Dacascos was Brandon's double?
@@thepayne7862 Nope. He was his character in the TV series
1:45 That's why I keep getting this vibe when I saw this Crow costume
You said it. The original Crow film for the win! Brandon Lee is Eric Draven. They should've made the main character another person the crow brought back to life.
this is why i love Jeremy, he too remembers DmC Dante lol.
Or Don'te, as we called him.
I liked DmC Dante, probably one of the rare few that did. And I had fun with the game.
@LunarSault23 the game was fun, but I still think the character looks like shit compared to peak Devil May Cry Dante.
DmC dante was great
@@LunarSault23 to be fair i grew into him cause at least the story was unique and he didn’t act like an edge lord.
JJ is the reason I know about The Crow. That hint you gave us about a future review of a movie YEARS!! ago was "Fire it Up."
This is like my 9 year old asking his sister what color cupcake she wants and giving her a cookie. The only thing that was reused/remade is the names and the logo. Brandon lee is smiling right now knowing he will never be replaced
I haven’t watched yet but I’m excited to hear your take on
The 2014 confused my ass. Lol My brain has decided it's a typo.
You cant touch a masterpiece
You are so right!!!
But they did
Why not?
@@ButterCookie1984 there’s no way you just asked that
Not broke.. don't fix
I'm not crazy about his design, but I'm looking forward to it.
It's Crowin' time 🐦⬛
I wouldn't even watch this movie for free!! Brandon Lee's 'The Crow', is good enough for me!!
Loved the soundtrack too, had a huge impact on the vibe.
