  • This video is to assist in the "know how" of training a goat and getting them familiar with setting up in the show ring. Remember to be patient and keep working your goat and you will be able to train them. Another good tip is to simply walk them in a large circle slowly, as you will need to do so in the show ring as well.

    Your videos on how to prep for show are SO helpful!! I've been sharing them with our 4-H group to reinforce what the kids are learning and practicing. Looking forward to seeing your show videos!

    I have a meat goat and with covid this year we haven't had any training or meetings for our 4h. I know we aren't dairy but this is one of the best videos we've seen. Thank you so much for posting! With this being our first year we are so so thankful for your families videos!

    It was weird because the judge at the show I was just at made us walk counter clockwise instead of most judges who walk clockwise. He also had seniors in showmanship go anywhere in the ring and have the best part of their goat face him while he stands in a corner. Hey he likes my goat so I'm fine with him.

      +Animalsforever31 That is a little different I must say. All judges are different :). So glad he liked your goats! Hope you had fun.

    Sometimes if they don't want to be set up I drop them and they automatically set up.

    How do you tame your goats and get them handled so well? I have several does that hate their back feet messed with?

    • @Justinthecrazyboy
      @Justinthecrazyboy Před rokem +1

      Ok so what you can do is when you go to set them up hold there heads up tight and that should work

    So quick question, ive learned how to set my goats up but not all of them "drop", so any tricks to getting them to do this?

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  Před 5 lety +1

      Dig! Lol. Right above their rump move back and forth with your nails. Some take a little digging to make it happen. Some do it with a pinch.

  • @nicolebarrett-dandelionacr1196

    Do you use just normal dog choker chains? Or do you have a specific one you like to use?

  • @baileyhowell6581

    Where do you get your collars ?

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  Před 6 lety

      You can get them a lot of places. Feed stores, TSC, pet stores, and even Wal-Mart. It's just a choker collar :)

    Hello, I recently joined FFA and I am deciding to show a goat.
    I have a terrible fear of being embarrassed by a misbehaving goat. Any tips for how to better control a goat?

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  Před 6 lety

      Haha! You need to work work work them. They calm down eventually in most cases ;). It's really the only way around it.

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  Před 6 lety

      Watch "Training Show Goats Part 1 and 2. That should help :)

      Blue Cactus Dairy Goats Alright, thank you ^^
      I have another question, but would you get points docked off for using tools such as prong collars for correction?

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  Před 6 lety

      In the open show ring, no. However, each judge can use discretion. In 4H you may get docked but I am not sure.
