@@ninamartinez5171 hey id encourage you to look into how they got their tax exempt status because it's fucked! Not defending the Clinton administration or anything, but it didn't really have to do with him. It had to do with scientology harassing, sueing, and ruining the personal lives of individuals who worked at the IRS for YEARS! People resigned and were traumatized from this. They know how to handle stuff as an organization, not PIs following individual workers and harassing them. Literally hundreds of lawsuits were filed. This is back when scientology had a lot more teeth, although they still do have the money requiredfor stuff like this.

When I first came to the Flag Land Base in 1989 it was a booming place. The sidewalks were packed with staff and outer org students. The course rooms were packed. When I left the Church in 2001 it was slowing down considerably. After I left I stayed and worked in the Clearwater area till 2018. By 2018 the downtown area was almost empty of Scientologists. The Church is dying and will be gone soon.

That property should be the crown jewel of downtown Clearwater hosting conventions, shows, seminars, etc. I have no doubt if that was the case the downtown area would explode economically. Instead even when it was busy it was like a scene from the night of the living dead. Mindless robots in a huge hurry to go nowhere!

There are about 23,000 cults and Scientology has been found to be the most dangerous, the hardest to wake up from, and to have the longest lasting after effects when one does break away. The tactics are very well honed to influence the human mind into deep rabbit holes. Hubbard's skill at conning was creative, he had a lot of help from others including his psychologist girlfriend, and used a lot of other sources to build a prison structure for the mind.

As they say: “You don't find cults, cults find you.” Many (current and former) Scientologists are some of the kindest, most clever people you could meet. The information about the cult that we have access to *now* was nowhere to be found less than two decades ago. There was no Internet in the 1980s, the 70s, the 60s etc; there was one documentary, produced in the UK, and but a handful of books. The main game changer were the Anonymous, who made the non-Scientology public aware of the truth about the cult.
We're laughing about Xenu and space aliens and Hubbard himself now; it's not too easy, however, even for many former members to admit to having been duped, for years, and extorted for tens and hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars. It's a sad affair of families broken up, lives lost and ruined and communities like Clearwater, FL devastated.

a lot of people are/were sadly raised as children in Scientology and therefore know/knew nothing else, it is nothing to do with intelligence for them

Because it has nothing to do with intelligence, in fact intelligence can often serve as just a stronger ability to rationalize bad decisions.
It has a lot more to do with a want to belong, a want to improve ones self, etc

Can you imagine the secret meetings these scientologists have to grow their empire? What if they could make am entire city their domain, their "meca". Buying businesses, houses, properties, slowly but surely to the point that every scientologist goes buy property in that city. Would be insane. Movie stuff.
