Both are really good. I liked the book a bit more as Emily actually gets away with what she does in the “Ripley” vein & it’s kinda scarier knowing she’s out there to ruin someone else’s life; Blake Lively got that part so great in spades and owned the screen. I like that the film version is Stephanie has more personality and more drive thanks to Anna Kendrick’s energy and she matches Blake Lively well in their scenes together.
Just discovered the movie has a sequel! IMDb has it as ‘A Simple Favor Sequel’ lol and the synopsis is: Follows Stephanie Smothers and Emily Nelson as they head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily's extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. I’m a bit confused but looks like this is real 😂
For me the book felt like a Pretty Little Liars book. The twin, the getting with men she knows she shouldn’t, the convoluted ending. I liked it for the most part, but I think it’s largely because the writing really felt like Ira Levines which I love. But it just felt generic and it was easy to see what was coming
I read the book and I felt the book was so strange, I agree with your feeling of Stephanie in the book, maybe that’s why I didn’t like the book/found it hard to read. I felt it was too hard to “really” like the book because of it.
Yeah she was such a disappointing character lol. The way she helps Emily later in the story and just believed everything Emily said was so frustrating!
Hollywood fluff !!! Like eating a bag of marshmallows. My tummy hurt afterwards. I love Anna Kendrick and highly recommend the 2022 film “Alice, Darling”. A slow burn about a woman in an abusive relationship and her two female friends who try to help her. Found the ending poetic and beautiful. Of course 18 people saw this film because it deals with this topic in a realistic non Hollywood manner. PS....Thank you Laura for filming this with your normal background and not an unknown city that broke my brain a couple of weeks back.. 😀😀
I've heard of that one, but still need to watch it! Kendrick is known for her bubbly roles, but I hope she gets more roles that show her diversity as time goes on because I do like her as an actress.

My biggest comment about the movie is that I loved all of Blake Lively's outfits.

I never knew this was a book! Very good film tho.
The film rights were bought before the book was even released! So it makes sense the movie eclipsed the book.
A fun movie but I totally forgot most of the plot until you recapped it. It does sound like the movie had the better ending.

i loved the movie and i thought the book was enjoyable. The movie almost feels like a parody of the novel in a way and i LOVE the musical choices.

Yeah I can see the appeal to the book ending with get getting away. But yeah, Stephanie as a character was much smarter in the movie.
