This classic really takes me back to when I was a little kid in kindergarten. Even though I was very young during that time, I gotta say that it was a much better time for real music.
Still fresh since 1975, perfect song for April 2017 - hats off to the Marvelettes and R.I.P. the great Van McCoy. Thank you for posting this dance classic in its extended club form!! Cheers, DAVEDJ
Its freezing in London, so lets pretend its Spring...Amazing Disco classic produced by Van McCoy....I love both this version by Ralph Carter and the Marvelettes. Alex X
Ralph Carter's version is the best in my opinion - probably because I bought it in 1975/76 and played it so much it's about worn out. My friends and I loved it, it used to be played at our weekly youth club disco. Can anyone tell me please if it was ever played on the Northern Soul circuit? The lads who ran the youth club discos (three different discos) all played it and they were all into Northern Soul and I know it was never released for UK charts, it was imported from US like a lot of Northern Soul records. Thanks for taking me back to my happy, carefree teens!
Spring's in the air, there's magic everywhere When you're young and in love Life seems to be a world of fantasy When you're young and in love Each night seems just like the Fourth of July When stars spangle the sky The moon at night seems to shine twice as bright When you're young and in love Dreams can come true if you believe they do When you're young and in love Though many teardrops are bound to fall True love will conquer all When you're, when you're young and in love (Trust and you'll find there's no mountain you can't climb when you're young and in love) Though many teardrops are bound to fall True love will conquer all When you're, when you're young and in love
Such a more idyllic time when adololescence held a mystery and the joy of discovery... Alas, it has all been consumed via an age of instant gratification,
He wasn't sounding that great singing Thelma and Keith's wedding song on Good Times. It made me realize just how much his voice had changed, as he grown up. Life! 🎶 🗣️🎤
A big hit for the Marvelettes back in 1967 (TMG 609) and written by Van "The Hustle" McCoy this song lends itself perfectly to the Disco treatment. Back in my DJ ing days in the '60s I used to play the original in my "Ration of Passion" spot (The Smooch session) and 8 years later I was filling the floor with this sublime reworking - Fast or slow just a Great Tune!
actually he's a very good singer he got discovered when it was starring in the musical raisin that's for Norman Lear saw him and that's why you had him sing a couple of times on the episode. like I said he's starred in the Broadway musical raisin anybody who sings on Broadway is a legitimate singer and Ralph Carter had a great voice
this is a fabulous version early disco at its best and from Good Times Star Ralph Carter and while he was cute an this song worked for him a great singer he was not
Love this disco version of one of my favourite songs and yes Van McCoy wrote it I met his Father and brother back in the 90s in Washington D.C. lovely gents and saw all his awards for his writing and artists he was a musical mega \star pity he had to die so very very young love it.
I still like this Ralph Carter version. It was well done. The Marvelettes had the best rendition from 1967 and stands as one of the best productions from Motown Records. The original version of this Van McCoy song was by Ruby and The Romantics from around 1964. It was great also but in a different way. Ruby's release never had chart traction and a copy is not easy to find-I've been looking. Choice Four had that "sexualized" approach that led to the ruination of "disco". Not a fan of that version at all...
Loved this back in the day, thank you for sharing ❤️
A Crowd and dance floor FAV, at the Discos---back in the day!! We all Loved it....

Ruby And The Romantics & The Marvelettes !
Groovy!😎👍🏻
I don't know who made the best music Van McCoy or the Funk Brothers when it came to backing up groups.

Love the ending. It just goes on and on...

@@MrHeaven33 Well it's a great song to be obsessed with - I'm 61 and I've been obsessed with it since I was 14 or 15!
Great song! One of the first disco tunes I loved as a child. I was 9 the first time I heard it (1977).
George
Great musical arrangement.

Bella musica al discoteca a New Jersey in 1975. Beautiful women.
Great version of the original by the Marvelettes. I remember both songs when they first came out.
Original by Ruby and The Romantics.
I really like this cover. I think it is my favorite take on this great old song. I always enjoy listening to it.
Michael Evans sang the song on an episode of Good Times in 1976 called The Rent Party this was John Amos final episode as proud dad James Evans

Young Evans child singing When You're Young And In Love
I was in 2nd grade when I started watching Good Times. I used to pretend I was on Soul Train and my dad thought I was making fun of black people.
@modman 1:Ralph Carter is alive and well!
Got the Marvelettes and Choice Four versions, this is an o.k. version !!!!
This is version is WAY better than the other versions, it has a much more uplifting and fun feeling, that's the magic of disco! :)
No chance !!
this is a fabulous version early disco at its best and from Good Times Star Ralph Carter and while he was cute an this song worked for him a great singer he was not
Ask him about this topic
you need to remember this was before the Jay z Beyonce rap crap so he is singing perfectly
Who is here after watching the 10/24/1975 episode of Musical Chairs?
Missing the opening second! :(

@@marlamoley2199 he is talking about Van McCoy, not Ralph.
Where's the part where John Amos interrupts the song?
He was banned from the studio!😁😁
I was wondering if it was Michael from Good Times....thanks for confirming!
I literally watched that clip like an hour ago 😁😁
A great Motown tune Murdered. Diabolical
3 1/2 stars.........Marvelettes is the BEST of this song, IMO.......
