I bought the wrong Sparkfun Mp3 trigger board! -Learn from my mistake

  • I wanted to do a project with one of the Sparkfun trigger boards. Unfortunately I didn't take time to read and most importantly understand the specs of each board. That's how I ended buying a board that has no polyphony for a project that needed it. I hope someone watches this video and learns from my mistake.

Ugh... these are ExPenSive, but my own WAV trigger module is one of my *favorite* modules. I almost never use the polyphony setting (I included a switch to enable it) because usually I just slam 16th note triggers into it, scanning across the 100+ samples I've put on the SD card and if course pitch-bending too. Both controlled by knobs connected to an Arduino.....I like it so much I built a dedicated high/low pass MS20 (stereo) VCF and a 0-99 Kinds Of Effect DSP Reverb module for it 😁 ..... I fixed a lady's clothes dryer just to get the $60 to buy the WAV trigger 😃😃😃

Yes..I checked out ur module...the pitch bend is cool... unfortunately the board I got doesn't have...plus I need it as a drum module so polyphony is necessary...

So when it's not it polyphonic mode like u use it..does the previous sample cut when u trigger a new one?

Yeah, I like the chopped up sounds of vocal samples cutting each other off. No, for a drum sample player you definitely want polyphony 😋 you could maybe build a 1-800-Call-Yer-Mum?? By Moffenzeef??? Uses a ... um... Teensy of some kind? One of my friends here built one for me in a tin can 🥫

I'm in the same boat! I am looking for a device with a pre-recorded message via an SD card to plug and play. Could I connect this device to a stereo amplifier and then to speakers? I am thinking of getting a Sparkfun Trigger and a stereo amp. Is that the proper way of doing things? Ideally I would like the sound to activate automatically when the power is turned on without the use of any other controllers such as an Arduino. Does something like this even exist? Please let me know, thank you.

I think this very board can do.Why do u specifically want the sound on power on? Because u can also trigger the sounds from the SD with like a button

Thank you for replying to my question. The application for my project requires the electronics to be hidden away and not visible all the time. I am looking for something like this to "play" the sound tracks automatically when the power button is pressed. Then it would run for as long as the power was on and when it is turned off it would stop. How could I go about doing so?

@@EdG407FL You need to get the data sheets of the board and see how it can suit your purpose

The midi integration is sick! How did you manage to implement that?

I have an Arduino microcontroller which receives MiDi from the controller and translates it into serial commands for the mp3 trigger....

Does it have ability to play many tracks simultaneously?

There is a more advanced version but I haven't had it in my hands. This one doesn't
