A chilled water fan coil unit (FCU) works by transferring heat from the air passing over the internal heat exchanger to the chilled water passing within. Cold water is supplied by a chiller unit, or reversible heat pump, which is installed in a central plant room or on the roof of a building.
Next, the chilled water circulates through a pipework distribution system to the heat exchanger (coil) within the fan coil unit. Fans within the unit then draw air over the exchanger containing the cold water cooling the air, which is finally dispersed into the desired space to provide the occupants or building users with comfort cooling.
In the summer, this building uses chilled water and in the winter the building uses hot water which gets distributed to these fan coil units. There is an electrical heater installed for those cold off season days while the chiller is in operation.

Dude i been watching your videor for a while. Before I became a building maintenance Engineer who really did not know nothing. I lied in my application in a hotel and casino resort. Watching all of your video I was very familiar with every equipment that my property has. It only took me a year and a half to be the most reliable person to know what is happening with our equipments. I was the easiest to train and i even surpass my trainers. Thank you so much for putting up your contents. I went from $30k a year to between $80to $110k a year. I will not give you the exact numbers 😂. Your videos made a big difference in my life
Electrician here. Learning the HVAC side of things. There are a few safety things not done correctly here.
1) With the condition of that switch installation I would recommend not going any further with the power on at that point. With the power off re-install or replace the switch so your shut off is safe.
2) always use wire strippers to strip wires. While you can use the plier method it causes a weak point in the wire where it will break in the future. If it’s just a quick temp connection no issue but for long term reliability do not do this.
3). Once you see that black soot you know there has been a short or an electrical component has kicked the bucket. Do NOT turn the power back on at this point. Visually inspect the wiring and fix or replace it as you go. Turning it on can cause further damage to the unit or electrify something unexpectedly.
What a mess!!! I find your videos very interesting and informative. 5 years as a hvac tech in commercial light industrial. 👍🏾💯✌🏽
Great Video. Thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas
Nice work and video Jumper Man. Merry Christmas.
Thank you Steven! Merry Christmas 🔧⚡️
Merry Christmas JMT excellent video
Thank you and thanks for watching! Merry Christmas to you too. Thank you for the support 🔧⚡️
A merry Christmas and a healthy happy new year Jmt and trainee
please ensure that BX cable is secured inside the junction box, as well as those other joints just hanging out, it looks like just raw wire rubbing on the knock out. This is another short waiting to happen there, especially since the BX jacket is the EGC, and without it connected firmly to the housing its is unsafe, non bonded.
Merry Christmas JMT Luckily that service call wasn’t too difficult It was a bit weird because almost always the neutral connection gives up first.
Smoke Residuel from the wires roasting
Whenever the chiller is in heating then the fan coil unit runs in hot water is the electric heat an auxiliary heat
Have you tried using those wago connectors on the electrical.
Never tried those before but I have been recommended to try them. I have a few hundred wire nuts to finish off with before I buy more connectors haha I will give it a shot. What do you think about those? Happy holidays!
@JumpermanTech a friend of mine uses them and he swears buy them. What happens with the wire nuts is sometimes you don't get a good tight connection and the vibration of the unit can make the wire come loose and cause a short.
@@scottmaz4063 I need to try them out. They look cool. I could see that happening. I will give it a shot in the near future. 2024 new beginnings⚡️ Have a great day 🔧🎄
Wago connectors are S tier, only thing I use nowadays.
@@Cosmo95_ What is S tier? I need to try them out

2:10 chris came out of dreamstate. :D
The black stuff is smoke soot.
The incoming black cable is undersized compared to the pink. Thats why it overheating
The service looks to be 12 gauge which should handle 16+ amps from heaters.
I always wonder why they have all the electrical in a metal housing
