I know China had traded with some nations in Africa, resources for roads to be built by Chinese contractors. Have you heard any news of catastrophic failures yet? In Sweden, there was a Chinese building company Latep to whom bought an old hotel and was to renovate into "Dragon Gate" hotel. Building as mostly based of Chinese workers and before they had their grand opening, the county's own engineer condemns the building before opening. Reason? They never sought after the building permit and second that the quality isn't up to the Swedish standards. In 2006, Dragon Gate was named the worst building of the year by the magazine Byggnadsarbetaren.

Unfortunately, now we here in Southern California are being affected by the scourge of Chinese developers! The abandoned towers in downtown Los Angeles are a prime example! I have witnessed many China-based developer projects here in the San Gabriel Valley area of Southern California. Almost all of their projects use non-union shoddy subcontractors. The projects they are involved in start and stop many times as the money comes in going months in between phases ! A project that would usually take a US developer a year to complete takes them 3 years! PAN CONSTRUCTION is one of the big China-based developers who is guilty of building like this all the time! We need to stop allowing China-based business to run rampant here in the USA! It's CRAZY, on one hand, our military is currently preparing for war with China in the Pacific, and on the other, our government is handing out permanent resident visas to Chinese developers for investment in the United States! The collapse of the bridge at the very end is comedic gold, you have to have at least one part of the bridge survive the collapse to remind people
    of the bridge that wasn't.

In early 2000's, automotive company I worked at distributed insurance crash test footage of China's first homegrown car. We saw car parts fail that didn't even think could fail fail. Highlight was seeing all bolts anchoring the front passenger seat fail sending the entire seat assembly through the windshield. To be fair, it was China's first car.

I have a friend that married a Chinese woman that he met while working in China. I did some specialized cabinet work in their home and she wanted everything done with the cheapest crappy materials possible. They have plenty of money and money wasn’t an issue for him and the things I was doing required quality materials. He kept telling her the we needed quality materials for these cabinets to function properly but it was almost like it was ingrained in her DNA to use inferior materials and for the specialized cabinets they wanted. Cheap materials would have failed very quickly.

The Baltimore bridge was fifty years old, and struck by a container ship carrying how many tens of thousands of tons of material? Yeah, it's bad. But that's a catastrophic collision involving a ship size far beyond what the designers expected, decades into its use. The Chinese failures? Those are unforced failures during normal conditions _in the first few years_. That's just crappy construction.

    • @Alice_20246

@@EmptyZoo393 I'm not a bridge expert, but I don't think any man-made object can withstand the impact of such a ship (the ship that hit the Chinese bridge was of considerable tonnage)... However, no matter which bridge it was, the casualties were caused, which makes me very sad.
