Spirit scam: Faking connections with the dead

IN a bizarre turn of events, a Honde Valley family is embroiled in a heated dispute over the alleged manifestation of their late father’s spirit on a stranger from Mutare.
The spirit claiming to be that of Philemon Kanjanda has sparked controversy by ordering the family to withdraw the matter from Chief Mutasa’s community court and have an out of court settlement. The matter between the late Philemon Kanjanda’s son, James and nephew, Abisha is being heard at Chief Mutasa’s community court. The Kanjanda family, represented by Abisha, claimed that it is being plagued by a series of mysterious deaths every March for the past 14 years. They accuse James of being responsible for the tragic events.
However, the sudden appearance of the unidentified woman, believed to be possessed by the late Philemon’s spirit, has thrown the family into a state of confusion and doubt.
During a recent court appearance before Chief Mutasa, the unidentified woman claimed to be the late Philemon’s spirit medium, and demanded audience with the Kanjanda family. She demanded to be identified as Philemon. She went a step further, demanding to have the matter withdrawn from Chief Mutasa’s community court, shocking Abisha’s camp and delighting James’ supporters in the process
