No way kiddo! You Couldn’t even smoke on the plane in ’97. No, the late 70’s early 80’s were the true golden age. It all went to hell after the internet and cellphones came around in the 90’s

Could somebody PLEASE take me back to those days before my beloved Airline Industry was destroyed. Watching this video leaves me with both a smile on my face and a lump in my throat.
Chow Chow even as recent as 2009 the domestic airline scene was still interesting compared to now. There was still NWA, Continental and Air Tran. After the disappearance of NWA and Continental it has really become stale. The end of the TWA name in 2002 signaled the end of the domestic airline industry's greatness. Look at the variety of carriers in the late 90s. Today it's a monopoly of 3 legacy and 2 low cost carriers, sad!.
this is amazing. I wish i was around to go spotting in these times. all you see now is a320s, 737s, a ton of regionals, and heavies. this is just amazing.
Geminijets NewMexico True, I've spent more time looking at domestic A320's, 737's and ERJ-145's, 757's. So that is pretty much the only planes you see other than... United, United, United, United, United and.... United. And sometimes the 777's, 767's,.
Chris430521 - HD EWR Planespotting Yeah, the aviation industry needs some variation. there needs to be a new aircraft manufacturer to bring something new.
Well there is a new plane I saw a while ago, called the "Comac C919" It is almost like airbus, but Chinese. The company building it could be the next big aircraft manufacturer. They said they wanted to "Break Airbus and Boeing's duopoly". But other than that, it is Boeing vs Airbus until this prototype Chinese prototype is in production.
Chris430521 - HD EWR Planespotting ive heard of the Comac. the problem with it is that it does not bring really anything new or improved that boeing or airbus has. also its chinese and the only actual airlines that i think will actually buy it will be the chinese airlines. i just dont think that the next large aircraft manufacturer will be out of china. these is also another comac plane that is called the ARJ21 that litterally looks like they put a DC-9 nose section on a CRJ-700 body. that first flew in 2008 and is still in testing so who knows how long the C919 will be in testing. I think the next large aircraft manufacturer that make larger aircraft will be out of Japan or a country like that. other than that maybe Embrear or Bombardier will try out the Mainline jets but who knows. right know for Mainline and widebody it is a duopoly.
America West is still around, you list wouldn't recognize it. It gets a little complex, but they did a reverse merger with US Airways, who then bought out American.
Growing up in Connecticut, I remember seeing Sun Jet International commercials in the dead middle of winter ad naseum. Hadn't seen one of their planes in a very long time until watching this video.
tanay.i miss twin tower and also old airlines childhood time memories felling very sad I wish that times if back now only memories left nowadays not so happy in my life childhood days best pereud my life.
I was a year old in 1997. it's cool to see such a wide variety of planes and airlines. All this merging now a days. The 90s seemed like an awesome time to fly
Your video was next in queue, so I stayed. It's now 2/1/17. I really enjoyed seeing images of those older carriers that either went under or got absorbed. I am closer to LGA and JFK, and didn't even recognize some of the other carriers. I am not a plane spotter, but have always been amazed by takeoff/landing scenes. I have only ever posted one "spotter" video, and that was from the observation deck of LGA in '82. Nice video you shot.
20 years ago airlines were all about comfortable seats with legroom and big work horse jets. Today they dont give a shit if your crammed in a airline that is more tight then a sardine can.
Still around currently operating as American Airlines you might see them in Philadelphia their Northeast Fortress hub you just need to take an Amtrak train from Newark Airport to 30th Street Philadelphia then SEPTA Airport line to Philly airport. The actual American Airlines main hub pre merger with US Airways Dallas-Fort Worth
Crazy I grew up in Elizabeth at the port only two minutes from there, I do miss the noise in the middle of the night when the 747 would take off and shake my house.
Flew into this airport on sept 8 and flew out on sept 11 2001. We raced on the Hudson in SBI. was to work the next when the news came through about the towers. RIP.
That Serra Pacific 737-200 is still flying in 2019, they operate two out of Tucson International Airport (TUS) and park them on the South ramp between the terminal and the fire station.
I'm surprised that there are so many airlines that didn't make their way to the 21st century. Also, I love those old liveries - some of them are even better than the current ones! Edit: Wait, did Spirit exist back then?
When I started traveling I would even number the number of planes I had traveled in, type, airline, route, etc. The broad offer that followed the deregulation of the aviation industry was simply overwhelming... at a hub like Newark you could literally feel close to anywhere in the world. Of course that’s pretty much what we have today, but back in the day, when it was still « blossoming », it was tremendous.
Truly was "the good ole days"
Was it? I would say the good old days were 20,30 years before that, when Pan-Am was around, and there were great meals for all the classes.

so many classics! so many cool liveries! ohhh! and the WTC's Twins Towers!
That's a lot of 3-holers, even an L-1011 or two!
The Tri-jet was king in the 1990s. DC 10 and 727 were everywhere.

Terrific footage! So much has changed in the last 21 years. Thank you for this look back into the past.

It's amazing after so many years some planes seen here are still in service.

Those days were golden and we never see that back again.
9/11 was the final nail in the coffin. Anything that was already on thin ice back then collapsed just like the towers.
