    My Scary Story
On 17th September 2023 i went for right direct inguinal hernia surgery with mesh, after 9 days post op i got infection, the surgeon tried to treat it with antibiotics for another 30 days but lastly told me to remove the mesh. Now i have no choice but to undergo another mesh removal surgery.
I am not against or in favour of anything, just one advice, choose your surgeon carefully.

The Shouldice Hospital in Ontario Canada performs 7000 hernia repairs each year. Tbey do NOT use mesh.
The recurrence rate at the 15 year mark for patients is less than 1 percent. Sugnuficantly lower than the recurrence rate for mesh repairs.
But no one is going to tell you this.

Thanks for the video. My thoughts are that mesh for inguinal is a good decision given the advances in mesh and surgery techniques. A lot of people get scared by the worst case scenarios in my opinion. The most likely outcome for a mesh surgery is less likely recurrence with an occasional "zinger of pain" that goes away as fast as it comes when moving a certain way. My surgeon was very forthcoming about that and to me I'd rather risk the possibility of an occasional short zinger of pain for the benefit of returning to my fitness program with lower chance of recurrence.

But what about the hormonal impact of the material of the mesh or the constant inflammation of the tissue around it, as tissue in human body gets replaced every now and then (skincells for example like every few days), so the new cells have to learn again to live with the mesh, no?

    • @donmulder8061
      @donmulder8061 Před rokem

@@krippaxxuseredarlordofthes9940 Going with the latest mesh seems to have taken into account all known risks, minimizing them, but remember there is no nullification of risk in any endeavor. When someone has a hernia, they have to decide: do I get a surgery? Because getting a surgery and not getting a surgery is a risk-benefit decision. If so, what kind and what method? Mesh or no mesh? What kind of anesthesia? Which doctor? At the end of the day, the patient decides on all this. But I think it's good to know the best case and worst case possibilities while keeping the overall likelihood front and center: lower recurrence rates in mesh and new mesh offering fewer complications than previous mesh. How much of the of the concerns about mesh stem from previous mesh materials and methods of fixation? That's a rhetorical question but a good one to consider.

Those are good points. I am also wondering about the long term effect of having that foreign material implanted so close to the reproductive area; vas deferens, nerves, prostate, testicles. Doesn't the mesh affect the nerves in that area? Doesn't the mesh shrink and can pull on tissues? Isn't it better to have the hole stitched and then be very careful not to open it up again going forward? @@krippaxxuseredarlordofthes9940

Shouldice hospital in Thornhill Toronto Ontario Canada 🇨🇦. They do operation without a mesh. They also stitch 4 times inside.
And use Steel Sutr to stitch. Cost aprox $9,500 Canadian 🇨🇦
    $7,000 US 💵 dollars
Desarda in india 🇮🇳. They repair without. A mesh.
Most doctors don’t want to stitch with a mesh because it takes less time and less expertise. But not so good for the patient.
    Avoid mesh.
Get surgery asap. Without mesh only. Be strong and communicate that. This is my choice and this is what I want.

If the muscle tissue is torn from coughing is that considered trauma similar to the stab wound you spoke of? i had a surgery one year ago and the anesthesiologist damaged my epiglottis and for 8 months whenever I ate or drank food and water would fall into my trachea and lungs and I'd have to cough it out. Eventually all that constant coughing caused a inguinal hernia.

My doctor pushed it back with fingers and I survived for another 6 years. Now I see a pointed bulge on my belly button. Not painful. Do you suggest a surgery with mesh? Or I leave it as it is if there is no pain? It's 6mm

Never accept mesh. Go to doctors who are interested in no mesh techniques and who have been practicing them for a while. Do not listen to these people who tell you you need mesh if you’re young. If you’re old, get the mesh but there is no reason why a young man who sprung a hernia lifting weights to accept mesh. If your surgeon pushes mesh during discussion run!

Thank you for the video. I just had my umbilical hernia repair without mesh 2 weeks ago. Your video make me understand why my surgeon choose not to use mesh. However I had complication after 8 days and after the final follow up with surgeon. The old blood started to flow out from my surgical wound and I have to rush back to hospital. After treatment (the doctor squeeze out more old blood) and let me go back home and I need to change the dressing daily for 5 days before go back to see the him. The doctor could not explain why, he just said no infection and which is good because the old blood manage to come out. I would like to ask Dr. Parthasarathy what could be the causes? Is it I have walk a lot on first 3 days after surgical and cause internal bleeding? or the surgeon not clean properly before close up the cut? or because a pc of omentum was cut and removed during the operation? Or others reason. Thank you
