This is an old military song, telling the story of a conscripted soldier called to arms, under oath, forced to leave his wife and house, who finds out the news that his wife left the house in his absence. It isn’t unusual in the historical Romanian principalities (in this case Transylvania, but it is the same in Muntenia/Walachia Moldova) that Romanian folk songs are played by Rroma or Jewish musicians, a tradition that continues today.

Eine Version des Liedes ist auf dem Album der Band Kanizsa Csillagai aus dem Jahr 1997 zu hören. Die Sprache ist Beasch, ein archaisches Rumänisch, das von den Beasch-Zigeunern gesprochen wird.

@@rikikarsai6323 Hi Riki, the Beasch/Boyash (actually their correct name is "Bāieși") is a Rroma group that lived in Transylvania and spoke the language of the majority of people there, Romanian. It is not different from Romanian, although the script may have been changed to match the sound during their migration, therefore you see the same song, in the same language, written in a different script. In the title here "Járbă" is the Romanian word "Iarbă" spelled according to Hungarian phonetic translation. The language is not archaic, is just Romanian in a different phonetic translation, same language, just a different code. You have the Romanian script in my message above.

First at all, this is not in Romani dialect but in Romanian language. They are just not spelling right the words. The right way to write the title is "Iarbă mare iarbă" not with the Hungarian letters like J and á. Anyway, nice cover, keep it up guys!
Indeed. It took me a while to figure it out. Thought it is another language similar to Romanian. However, their interpretation sounds very good and I like it a lot. But it is important to know that the language is Romanian.

Someone telling the tall grass the he/she wants to go home but can't because of an oath (probably marriage),
you can find the lyrics transliterated in Hungarian spelling, but the words themselves make sense only in Romanian
(with Transylvanian accent), not Gypsy/Romani or Hungarian
In my ongoing quest to find music I've never heard before, I found your group in the suggestions next to a Megitza song about horses. (Check it out; it's really good.) Very good musicianship, great vocals and harmonies, and the tunes are excellent. The way you borrow from different styles is wonderful because you bring something new to the musical table. The main part is in romanian. Iarbă, mare iarbă. Something I didn't heard before. Their pronunciation is having some gaps though 🤟

The lyrics are in Romanian in the dialect of the Boyash Roma. The song travelled through many countries, also through Hungary, where we caught it up as a Hungarian friend showed us the tune :)
