      Thank you! So this isn't really a typical review channel, it's more just to catalog my journey and share the experience, right now I'm really curious about subwoofers so there will be a few more subwoofer videos coming. Since I buy most of the gear with my own money I just review what I'm interested in at the moment. Right now it's mostly subwoofers :D

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  Před 3 lety +6

      Thank's Jay! I'm really shocked to hear someone would say that. That's seriously insane, this is a $400 speaker on a good day at best. Many speakers are better than this under $1000 like the Focal Chora 806, Revel M16, Elac DBR62, Dynaudio M10 & M20, PSB Imagine Mini, hell even the $229 Emotiva B1+ would give this thing a serious fight. The Bronze 100 does a few things really well like imaging and soundstage but the presentation within is terribly unbalanced. It's like having a car that might have a lot of horsepower but the damn thing can't drive straight and has crappy brakes. 1 or 2 Positive things about a product doesn't always outweigh the negatives. Most things have some redeeming qualities but in this situation it's just not redeeming enough.

    -When I said these were bright and sharp I really meant it guys, they're shouty for sure.
    -I think a fair price for these is closer to $400 for a music only system.

      $400? Have you seen other Audio Monitor speaker prices? Let those tweeters properly break-in and feed them with some solid core speaker cables and I think you'll get a completely different result except for the imaging part.

      @@Cartier_specialist If you don't believe me buy them for yourself and experience the disappointment first hand. I believe in break in but no amount of break-in can fix these. I had them connected to $7500 worth of what is otherwise smooth/neutral sounding gear and another few hundred dollars in room treatment. I gave these 30 hours, that should have gotten them most of the way there.
      If a brands most entry level product needs a specific type of speaker cable to sound good that makes it a bad design and the cable at that point is fixing a problem which I find absolutely unacceptable.

    Thanks for the heads up on the sound signature. I checked out another review of this speaker and if I correctly recall what the reviewer said, the Bronze 100 soundstage is similar in performance to the Focal Chora. Did you also find the soundstage to be similar?

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  Před 3 lety +7

      I like Andrew Robinson a lot but I strongly disliked that comment and felt it was lacking a lot of context. While perhaps the size of the soundstage is similar it's meaningless because the speakers are wildly different in regards to what they do in that soundstage. It's like if two girls are the same height, it means nothing, one could be very beautiful while the other might be very ugly, one girl might be very nice and the other girl might be really rude, etc... The only way the Bronze 100 reminded me of the Focal Chora 806 is I did think to myself at one point the Bronze 100 sounded like if the guy that made the Chora was drunk this is what he would have come up with and the next morning he would have scrapped the design and started over. • @cristi724
    @cristi724 Před 2 lety

    What you're describing sounds a lot like my current MA Bronze 2(the previous model the Bronze 100 replaces), minus the low end extension. They image and soundstage very well, and they do it well on a desktop, in a room, with or without toe-in. But they're not very refined, which is still fine for the price. So with bands like Tool where you can have all the instruments coming at you from every angle, they will make you freeze in your chair, and I like that.
    But again, not very refined, and you need to pump up the volume for them to do that. The drum kicks are good and strong, but the bass guitar not as much, and you can feel it get lost in something like Pneuma from tool when it comes to mid/low sounds. The voice of the singer is just all around you and in your face, and very clear.
    So now comes the question, would you say the Focal Aria 906 is an upgrade if I'm looking for the same but better?

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  Před 2 lety +1

      oooo, okay okay, hmmm, so the refinement of the Aria 906 is outstanding BUT, because you are given so much detail if your other gear is not refined then it might give you a similar experience like you're getting tons of detail but it's a bit edgy and not the most separated. This is no fault of the Aria, we can say the same for any speaker that gives us lots of detail. If you're in a country like USA where the Aria is $2k I would say to get the Buchardt S400 MKII instead but if you're in an EU country where the Aria 906 is closer to $1200 then yeah it's a great option as long as your front end gear has a clean presentation and is not bright up top and lean in the mids. You want gear that's smooth up top and rich in the mids for the Aria 906 to sound it's best or a DAC that accomplishes that like the Ares II. One thing the MA Bronze does differently is it pushes the singer center image in a more focused way and a more forward way than the Aria 906. Hope this helps.

    • @cristi724
      @cristi724 Před 2 lety

      @@NemoPropaganda Yes Europe, and I've even heard people say on forums that the 906 goes for 500 EUR (580 USD?) a pair sometimes, new in store, which would be amazing to find again. So I'm pretty set on them for the right price. I can get them for 1000 EUR right now, but it doesn't feel right knowing I can get them for 5-600 if I wait a while.
      The S400 are also an option, but I'd have to save up some more, and then who knows when I can upgrade the amp. The KEF R3 I also considered, also around 1k EUR, but the aesthetic of their "walnut" version is not for me with those bronze drivers.
      I have an emotiva bas-x A-100 amp which I'm not sure if I would replace right now, I'm thinking of trying out a "more highend" DAC before the amp and see if it helps to clean up the sound, I may even do it before the speakers if the Aria price doesn't drop. Current DAC is a fiio BTR3 with a PC as the source, it's extremely convenient and for 50$ can't complain.
      Thanks for the reply, I really enjoy your channel and your style of review. Like Sean likes to say in his gear reviews, very "matter of fact".

      @@cristi724 Oh nice! I have an A100 also, it's a good amp, possibly the best amp for the money. So the A100 is voiced like the Aria 906, little bright up top, little cool in the midrange. Hey man just found out about you and looked some of your reviews. Love how you talk and review! Just wanted to ask you about speaker choice and placement. Well I wanna get floorstanders or bookshelf to switch out my shitty soundbar. They have to be in corners theres no working around that sadly. WAF WAF WAF. I've been looking at spektor 2's q3020i because their good entry I would believe. But then i saw the dbr62 and i love the looks and how reviews talk about it. It's more expensive. Also like the oberon 1 and 3. Is it worth the extra price or is it like, I will be happy enough with something cheaper? So it has to be in corners is that really that much of a problem? • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey dude, you asked a few questions so I'll break it down:
      1. Will you be happier with a cheaper speaker or should you get the Elac: so it's hard to say what will make you happy but I can tell you from my perspective personally speaking anytime I have bought a cheaper product when I had my eye on something slightly more expensive I always regretted it and constantly wished I had bought the slightly more expensive product. So my advice is always to buy the product that most catches your eye so I say go for the elac!
      2. How bad is being shoved into corners: well it's pretty bad to say the least and many of the aspects reviewer's talk about like sound staging, imaging, bass and so on will be completely different when the speaker is shoved into a corner but who cares, it's the only option you have. With the Elac being a front ported design it will be best suited to being shoved against the wall so since that's the only option you have no sense in worrying about it.
      3. Bookshelf vs. Floorstander: everyone has a preference here for me personally it just comes down to aesthetics. Bookshelf speakers on stands look really good to me and other people may argue floor standers have a fuller sound. I say just buy whatever you want :)

A dollar today is worth about half what it was in 1990 so if JBL made that same speaker today it would probably cost $1400+ and I can pretty much guarantee you wont find any contemporary budget speaker that would even be competitive in build and sound quality. Hey man, i discovered your channel recently and i really like your honest and straightforward reviews approach. I wanted to ask your opinion about the following :
    So i recently set up my first proper Hi-Fi system consisting of Triangle Borea Bro3 as speakers, Atoll In50SE as amplifier ( it is a solid state A/B amp with 50w for 8 ohms with a tube sound signature ), the SoundblasterX AE-5 an 100 euro-ish PC ESS SABRE DAC/AMP and it is set up in a pretty small 10 square meter square-shaped room ( it's the best i have unfortunately ) on my desktop forming a 1-meter equilateral listening triangle and with around 50 cm distance from the rear walls and about 80-100cm from the side walls.
    My problem is that i am a bit disappointed with the system's bass output. The overall sound signature result is on the warm side of neutral which is what i was expecting ( and wanted ) based on most of the reviews i went through but the BRO3's bass is reported to be strong and satisfying which is something i never noticed even after more than three months of at least 5 hours of daily usage ( gaming/movies/music ), meaning that they are well broken in by now.
    One thing i must mention though is that i haven't placed them on proper speaker stands yet ( i will buy some Iso Acoustics ones in the future ) and instead i used some stacks of old heavy thick books to raise them to ear level so that could be a culprit there ( maybe the books are absorbing the base output volume or something ? ). Another thing i would like to add is that i own an old Onkyo home-theater subwoofer which i hadn't been able to implement properly with my previous active speakers and was hoping to use it now on one of my amplifier's pre-outs but when i eventually did connect it seemed to be not functioning as it should and i was starting to think that maybe the amplifier has a problem with bass frequencies or something of that manner ( the subwoofer could be faulty as well of course).
    When i was deciding on the speakers, i must say i had noticed the Monitor Audio Bronze 100 and their unusually large 8-inch woofers but i thought that the BRO3s bass output would be enough for this small room of mine ( I should note that since i am not a bass maniac or anything i wanted to try to be content from the bookshelf speaker's bass without using a subwoofer ).
    The sound signature i was aiming for was a ballsy full-bodied enjoyable fun-packed non-treble exaggerated sound at low to moderate listening db levels as most of my usage is low recording quality gaming/movies and death/black metal. I would really appreciate if you have any thoughts to share about this peculiar situation of mine. Thanks !!!

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  Před 3 lety

      Hey blood, I like some death metal too! So bass response can be highly room dependent, then on top of that where the speakers are placed in the room is a big deal, and furthermore where you sit is a big deal too! If any of these are off you can have weak bass response. Personally I use a subwoofer with all bookshelf speakers except my Buchardt S400. Most people with desktop audio have a hard time having good bass because they're sitting in a null. Some people add a subwoofer underneath the desk to help with this but desktop audio is an entirely different realm that I'm not too familiar with :(

    I just read the comments before even watching this video and I can tell what people are talking about. Andrew Robinson was falling over himself with these for the price! All I can tell you is I had the Gold 100 version from Crutchfield last year and I couldn't wait to give them back! 🤯 Were they resolving, hell yes very resolving , too resolving! For example on some piano tracks you could hear the Pianist pushing on the foot pedals. On some other less resolving speakers you can't hear the noises, but that doesn't mean they don't sound great! Think of a marble going around a roulette wheel a metal marble and a metal roulette wheel that's what it sounded like! These reviews are like asking like which ice cream brand of vanilla do you like better and there's no correct answer evidently!😉🤗😇 I might have to purge some of my subscriptions, and you are not one of them!🤔🤭🤫😉😇 It seems that people who do this for a living may unintentionally like mediocre things for various reasons or they just like this flavor/brand of ice cream!🤭🤭🤑🤫🤔

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  Před 3 lety +3

      Oooh that sounds horrible :(. I like Andrew a lot and look up to him in many respects but he makes it no secret that he is targeting the "average joe" and not "audiophiles" specifically so he's going to be more forgiving of speakers shortcomings and especially at more obtainable price points. Additionally not having room treatment does mean he will hear his room a little more than the speakers leading to sometimes drawing comparisons that may not be the most spot on but his argument would probably be that most people don't have room treatment and that's a fair perspective to have, it just doesn't serve the "audiophile" which again is not his goal anyway. Personally I think Zero Fidelity is the gold standard for any discerning or often times overly critical listener which is most audiophiles :D.

    I would have never watched a review of these speakers if you didn't review them. I got so annoyed when I saw the frequency response spec of these on another youtube channel that I clicked out after the first min of the review. How is a tolerance of -6 dB a useful spec? I have both. IMHO, it’s a matter of taste, personal preference. Elacs are easy to listen. Very relaxing. Sometimes it’s boring. MAs are analytical, unforgiving to your source and requires a good equipment match/placement but makes you study the music. When I listen to the Last Carnaval by Norihiro Tsuru’s album Acoustic Cafe, I can feel the message the artist is sending. Elacs, on the other hand, always send the same message with any music. Both are equally good speakers. Just a matter of taste and mood.
