This is my grandads lorry very loved and still toes with it. He pulls a 34ft showman living wagon. He turns 80 this year and it’s his pride and joy.

Ahh, the required double declutching, something I learned on a Cummins engined ERF back in '73 - ! 😁

Fantastic to see this great video of a Scammell Highwayman! I was always impressed by them as a lad. This one sounds great and the driver makes those gear changes look easy - which I can well imagine they are not!

@@mctwista3179 Our tankers firm - Gilbraith Tankers, Accrington - had radial compressors fiitted for discharging tanker loads. You knew what was happening when the pto was engaged! Highwaymen, driven properly and professionally would last forever. Noisy, smelly, rattly, uninsulated and requiring double-declutching but one of Scammell's best.

Think that 660 VMA is ex-Chettles. They put a 600 (might have been a 680...) Leyland in this in the late '60's. Think they upgraded the front axle at the same time and also had the dual headlamp front wings made. Also think that this may have been originally from Shell-Mex. Am I right in all this?.
