One of my all time favorite bands, especially live. I've seen them in concert in the 80s, 90s, 00s and the last time in 2018. Soundtrack of my life. U2 are one of my all-time favourite bands. There are so many amazing songs by them that you could react to. One thing to note, their official CZcams page is currently remastering into HD all their music videos in chronological order, starting with their first single I Will Follow from 1980. They seem to upload a couple of remastered videos a week. They are currently up to When Love Comes To Town from Rattle & Hum (1989) and soon they should move onto the 90's, which in my opinion is U2's greatest decade, starting with their masterpiece of an album - Achtung Baby - it's "sister" album Zooropa, their Passengers album project with Brian Eno and their unfairly maligned (by some) album POP. U2 really branched out into different musical styles and sounds in the 90's. They were bold, took changes, even if it meant alienating some of their fans who loved their 80's stuff, were adventurous, they experimented with European Industrial Rock sounds and even techno. They really weren't afraid to take chances in the 90's (sadly that hasn't been the case in the 21st Century where they've played it much more safe. Still good though) I really recommend you react to their videos from Achtung Baby but wait until they add the new HD versions of their videos online. Same with Zooropa and Pop., But in the meantime there are lots of recently remastered videos of theirs from the 80's on their official page. Songs I recommend are: New Year's Day, Pride, The Unforgettable Fire, With Or Without You, Where The Streets Have No Name, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, One Tree Hill, Desire and Angel Of Harlem. Also their ZooTV tour Live From Sydney 1993 is simply amazing and very ahead of it's time. So glad you've reacted to U2 and like them. Sorry for waffling on but, as you can see, I love this band, haha! :)
This was somewhat of an intro of U2 on a large scale for the world. It was also basically is the beginning of them taking over the world. In a few short years, they were the biggest band in the world and a hit machine. Everyone who grew up in the 80s and 90s finds it mind boggling to know there are people on this planet who still haven't heard of U2. So, you can choose anything from these guys and it will be great and yes, they are always on point live. I'm not sure if you have looked into any INXS yet, but if you want yet another example of an incredibly tight and talented band that slays live, you need to check out "What You Need" live at Wembley Stadium in 1991.
Every word true. In two short years they took over the globe-reigning as the biggest band in the world for more than a decade-and produced The Joshua Tree, one of the greatest rock albums in history. Oh, what I’d do to have a time machine to go back these performances.
LEGENDARY rock band. The best of the best. U2’s live performances are epic & now span into five decades with same four dudes who formed the band in high school. U2 are the only musical act in history to have a number one album in four different decades. They held the record for the highest grossing tour ever, too (still do adjusted for inflation). Explore the discography & *especially the live performances of their songs* -you won’t regret it.
Big stadium gigs were fairly rare in 1985, Live Aid really showcased the likes of U2 and Queen who are made for that environment. I saw U2 twice at Wembley stadium and Queen once, awesome experiences.
I take there very late I'm sorry Dereck. I'm so proud to see your reaction of a band that represent half of my life. I've had so much to say to you about the band and specifically about the second song Bad. But I'm portuguese and my English needs more study, sorry. I'm a fan (REALLY FAN) of U2 for 16 years. Bono's voice in 85 it was Amazing. I can only say to you that this song Bad is so sad, so powerful! In 2005 when I connected with this band, this song saved my life REALLY. And I'm so emotional to see new generations hearing this masterpiece. Glad that you do this reaction. Hope you can joy more U2 stuff. Actually yesterday they sing with DJ Martin Garrix the Official song of eurocope of football. Hope you can react. Now Bono has 61 years old and Martin 25, is amazing. Thanks for that and sorry to share my profound experience with this band. 🇵🇹
Dereck youve picked the best song theyve ever written for youre first U2 reaction now trust me react to U2 live at slane castle recorded in Ireland in 2001 and the song " Where the streets have no name " 💚💚💚
@@caperboy1169 When you say "they" you're talking about the three other members of the band. They really were pissed off at Bono for stretching out 'Bad' to the point that a third song was not possible anymore. Every band had a very strict timeslot that day. After the show, backstage, there actually was talk of firing Bono. Quite quickly it became clear that this performance was kind of a tipping point in their career, that went stellar after this moment in London.
Greg Carroll is the guy scrambling all over the stage to keep the microphone cord untangled....the song One Tree Hill on The Joshua Tree is mainly about him. He was killed in a motorcycle accident about a year later.
One of the GREAT live bands. First song I ever heard w U2 was GLORIA.... aaaaaand I was hooked. PRIDE, is one of my fav's song. SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY, is written about an historic tragedy in Ireland where British troops killed unarmed sivilians in the city of Derry.
One reason everyone is sweating is that the live aid concert happened in the middle of July. This concert was such a big deal and unbelievable event for music fans at the time. A worldwide concert event that was a who's who of 80's music. And I was age 20 at the time.
I've seen them in 2001 for Elevation Tour in Paris and it was fantastic... I've seen some of their concert in the US, Ireland (Slane Castle) or Paris and when you're inside or you watch them, you can feel a bit like in a "trance" thing. Bono's voice isn't the most perfect but it has that little something that touches you without knowing it and The Edge's guitar playing is just amazing. 20 years later I still have vivid memories of the crowd chanting "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "Pride" "New Year's Day" and many more .... It was just magical and unreal ... Few singers have this power over a crowd (two others in particular: Jim Kerr from Simple Minds and Dave Gahan from Depeche Mode), they aren't necessarily beautiful or sing perfectly, but they do have what is called charisma.... In any case, welcome to the world of U2, a nice trip ahead ...

U2 is my all-time favorite band! You are about to go into a deep dive, because they are nothing short of amazing! Just start at the beginning & keep going. I have been to three of their concerts in the 2000s (U2 360, U2 Experience + Innocence, & The Joshua Tree Tour), & it was a magical experience every time. They are activism, love & religion all at once.
I have seen this group live about 6 times, they come into their own live, much better than their studio albums. Best experiences ever. Bad is a masterpiece here.
Welcome to the wonderful world of U2 my friend. The ONLY band to have a number one album in FOUR different decades! You are correct sir when you said you must see them live. Exit, Until the End of the World, Please, Discotheque, God PT II, One Tree Hill, City of Blinding Lights, Kite, Silver and Gold, All I Want Is You (greatest love song ever written), Sweetest Thing, Gone, Running to Stand Still (also about heroine addiction), Mofo, Ultraviolet, and Love is Blindness should give you an idea of how diverse and truly great they are. Also, their Super Bowl halftime show four months after 9/11 is widely regarded as the best performance at the Super Bowl. They also performed at the reopening of the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina is phenomenal. They collaborated with Green Day playing The Saints Are Coming (at the Saints game none the less) is as good as it gets.
So, yeah, Bono was not "dancing" with that poor girl at all. There were people getting crushed in the crowd, Bono saw it from the stage and abandoned the song after the second chorus- that is why he threw down the microphone. The whole middle instrumental section isn't part of the song. he saw security was not freeing the girls fast enough so he jumped down to help himself. Before he got down to embrace the dark haired girl there were two blond haired girls that security had already been able to free (those were the two girls Bono kissed that were standing on the camera level in front of the stage). Bono selfless gesture that day is legendary. It overshadowed the entire Live Aid concert and is the thing that people most remember about the concert 38 years after the event.
This was U2 at their absolute peak. They always put on an amazing show. You should check out Under a Blood Red Sky, a concert they recorded at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver.
They were supposed to play three songs but didn't get the chance to. the reason is Bono saw a few ladies being crushed against the railing by the crowd and he was frantically trying to direct security to them so they could be pulled out of it. They got two but missed the third one. After more gesturing, he finally just leaped over the upper railing himself to help. If you look you can see them down there as he's gesturing to security and see their panic and pain from being crushed. Not sure where the person who wrote those notes got that he just wanted to dance with her from as Bono said himself that he saw those women being crushed down there. He was holding her to calm her down, then danced with her for a moment. Pretty sure that made her day lol. The band, however, didn't see what was happening and they were angry afterward. They got into a fight about it and thought it was a disaster, but it turned out to be the exact opposite. This performance shot them straight to the stars and they haven't come back down since.
Bono is known for major interaction with the audience. He brings fans on stage and slow dances with them or lays on the stage with them and sings to them.
You should react to the video for "One" by them. In my opinion this song has the best lyrical content of any modern song. Each verse is like a short-story in your mind.
Stole the show at Live Aid, exposing them to the world at large and then followed up with the now-legendary Joshua Tree album in 87... Talk about a 1-2 punch; these guys were always destined to be huge.
Great reaction Derek. As a music fan and historian you came across one of the most legendary live performances of all time. Thanks for sharing your experience and Keep it up my friend.
If you like interesting killer male vocals, please, react to JEFF BUCKLEY singing Grace - live on the BBC. Mesmerising, and so, so skilled. You will not be disappointed.
Pretty much everything from Live Aid was perfect. Even if everything wasn't optimal, there was something about the sheer size of it and the general vibes it gave off that cements it as a downright historical event. The Cars, Ultravox, Queen and U2 really gave it their all, and it's fantastic.
I had the good fortune to see them live at Madison Square Garden on the "Achtung Baby" tour. My friends and I had second row tickets. It was incredible.
While the main stages were in London and Philadelphia , other stages around the world also participated. Phil Collins hopped on a plane after performing in London to also perform in Philadelphia . He made history at the time by performing on both sides of the Atlantic in a single day.
If you haven’t yet worked it out, Sunday Bloody Sunday is about a dark day in Irish history during the Troubles. Bloody Sunday happened in 1972 and on that day, British soldiers shot 26 civilians. 14 of them died. Half of those that were killed were teenagers. An enquiry that took place a quarter of a century later described the shootings as ‘unjustified’ and ‘unjustifiable’. Sunday Bloody Sunday is a passionate, political song. I was 12 years old on the day of Live Aid and this performance made me a lifelong fan of U2 and also massively influenced my politics from a very young age. Oh, and Bad is my favourite U2 track of all time.
At the time, pulling a girl on stage to dance was part of Bono's shtick and when he went to do this, he saw one girl getting crushed by the crowd and asked security to bring her up for it. This went on so long that U2 ran out of time to play what was going to be their big finale with their latest hit (and now legendary song) "Pride (In the Name of Love)." Of course, despite not playing their biggest hit, they still managed to make one of the biggest impacts on the Live Aid viewers among the many massive bands and artists that graced the stage that day.
In the band's early days, Bono was like a wild thing, climbing the rigging, the speakers, whatever, just to connect more with the audience. By this time the band knew how to keep it going, whatever he might get up to. That intimate connection with the audience has been consistent and informed stage and walkway designs, and a big part of their popularity.
Sunday Bloody Sunday, one of my fav U2 song. I love the message, the passion, the strength, the will to change the world. Then came The Joshua Tree album. "Where the Streets have no Name" is an amazing song with a message that doesn't age. "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" is on par. The rest of the album is just as amazing. Not a bad song it. Of later songs, there are so many, but I love "One", "Beautiful Day" and "Love is blindness" (this one is not super famous, but every U2 fan knows it). "Beautiful Day" has a special place for me: I was humming it (it's an earworm) as I was getting to my work in downtown Washington DC, 2 streets from the White House, on the morning of September 11, which was truly a rare "beautiful day" in DC... I will never be able to dissociate the song from that event.

U2 is the biggest and best live band of the last 35 years !!
INXS kick U2’s ass
LEGENDARY rock band. The best of the best.
U2’s live performances are epic & now span into five decades with same four dudes who formed the band in high school. U2 are the only musical act in history to have a number one album in four different decades. They held the record for the highest grossing tour ever, too (still do adjusted for inflation). Explore the discography & *especially the live performances of their songs* -you won’t regret it.
Yeah, albums that are number one for only a week lol
Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems that music history was made in the past, not today. What a performance...
All kinds of history seems like that. We won't know what happening today is "history" until it actually is history.
I disagree. Respectfully. But the original commenter is correct. The music quality of today cannot touch the era exemplified in this U2 performance
You are wrong, sorry to be a bad news bear.
@@curly_wyn I suggest...a pissed bear...😜
When they came off the stage, they thought they'd blown any chance of getting bigger....it made them global superstars.
They were upset because their 3rd song was supposed to be Pride which was their current single
@@avanoosterhout8397 that third song was Pride which was their new single. That’s why they were pissed
Yes, U2 rocks!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
They are INCREDIBLE live. I saw them very early in their careers (War) and then during All That You Can't Leave Behind.
I’ve seen U2 twice. Their first red rocks tour was magical. You must check out 40 performed at Red Rocks PLEASE ITS BEAUTIFUL
It's great to see Bono and the boys inspire a whole new generation.
More U2 reactions please!!! I suggest reacting to any of their concert films!
Live at Slane Castle ❤️
*Zoo TV* Live From Sydney!
Arguably, they have been the most influential band of the last 30 years
I've seen them in 2001 for Elevation Tour in Paris and it was fantastic...
Yes Didier attended both the slane castle showd also and have seen them live countless times without doubt the Greatest live Band ive ever seen what a back catalogue of songs they are Perfectionists like no other thats what makes them a unique band
@@reactionfan1448 Agree. Greatest live band I’ve ever seen. Seen many. GA all the way. Up at the front.
I’m sooo jealous you & @DidierBordeau attended Live at Slane Castle. If there was one live performance in history that I could back in time to experience...it would be that one. Cheers.
@@AndTheRoadGoesEverOn Agree and I've seen the best from Queen " Springsteen and the E street Band " Genesis " the Eagle's " ACDC " and many many more but without doubt U2 are by a distance the best I've ever seen but others will disagree which i totally respect everyone's got they're own opinion "
You can't go wrong watching any live U2 performance. They own the stage. I've seen them 4 times. It is damn near a spiritual experience. My adult kids were not fans...until they went with me see U2 in 2017. If you get the opportunity GO.
CHILLS!!!! Legendary performance, as Queen, two of the best live performances ever in history
The best band in the world. I wish I was the girl getting crushed just to be saved by Bono ❤️
I have seen this group live about 6 times, they come into their own live, much better than their studio albums. Best experiences ever. Bad is a masterpiece here.
I'm up to 28 times live and Bad is my favorite song by any artist ever. I get goosebumps every time i hear it still to this day.
I forget the girl’s name, but he saved her life because she was being crushed , and they became friends and he is still friends with her.
His dad was an opera singer, so his voice is incredible!
when artists still gave their all to the public, U2 is magic
This performance brought U2 to are attention in the US. I still get chills from watching it live when MTV played music/ videos
I'm sure someone here can understand why I wanted to have Bono's babies for quite some time. 😍❤
Little Bono’s and Bonorettes running around the house 🏡😆
Since they didn’t get to play their 3rd song.... you should check out
Pride (In the Name Of Love) the official music video.
Loved your review 👏
Bono is known for major interaction with the audience. He brings fans on stage and slow dances with them or lays on the stage with them and sings to them.
To this day it still gives me the chills.....Love that song!
You should react to the video for "One" by them. In my opinion this song has the best lyrical content of any modern song. Each verse is like a short-story in your mind.
Don’t do the one wit da lady singing wit him doe she ruins it. Do the official vid
The 80´s was best live concert decade ever !!!
Stole the show at Live Aid, exposing them to the world at large and then followed up with the now-legendary Joshua Tree album in 87... Talk about a 1-2 punch; these guys were always destined to be huge.
and always so humble, even when conquering the world, amazing gracefulness.
Great reaction Derek. As a music fan and historian you came across one of the most legendary live performances of all time. Thanks for sharing your experience and Keep it up my friend.
recomendation: UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD
The word underrated is overused, but it clearly applies to this song.
If you like interesting killer male vocals, please, react to JEFF BUCKLEY singing Grace - live on the BBC. Mesmerising, and so, so skilled. You will not be disappointed.
Bad is one of my favorite U2 songs :)
There the legend of U2 was born. Right there in that stadium. That very day.
Full of energy ! True legends !!!
Thank you for your enthusiasm while listening to these great songs. The 80’s were an awesome time!
I’ve seen U2 live three times….absolutely epic concerts❤️❤️❤️
Welcome to the U2-universe, enjoy:)
While the main stages were in London and Philadelphia , other stages around the world also participated. Phil Collins hopped on a plane after performing in London to also perform in Philadelphia . He made history at the time by performing on both sides of the Atlantic in a single day.
The singing intro of "Bad" that Bono sang is "Satelite of love" by Lou Reed
Same four guys almost 50 years amazing
A young girl was being crushed. He was trying to get her freed. So the band played on while he helped get her out.
BAD is one of the best songs of all time
U2 are a fantastic sounding live band.
This performance of Bad changed live music forever.
I read an incredible quote that 40% of the civilized world watched this event either in person or live on its satellite broadcast
Please react live at Dortmund 1984, thats was a mindblowing Night!!!
One of the greatest moments in the history of music, without a doubt.
A couple songs that came out in the 2000's, City of Blinding Lights and Beautiful Day are really good
You’ve only just touched on this band there is so much more incredible live sets from them out there that will blow your mind!
Bob, his dad was a tenor, Bono is also a tenor hence the projection
U2 shows are like church. I'm always moved to tears!
Great analysis of an epic performance 👍
🇮🇪🇮🇪u2 one of the 🌍 worlds greatest bands 🇮🇪☘️Irish lads . Bono wrote songs for movie 🎥 (in the name of father) absolute great songs
Dick evans is edge's brother, formed a band called virgin prunes they were out there!
Thanks for playing this! I recommend it to other's but no response.
Don't you know this wildly popular Irish band?? They have the best live performances, a very interesting and extraordinary guitarist in the world and a really cool frontman. Keep doing reactions to U2!!)
You know, I used to watch only reactions to Mylene and ABBA on your channel, now I'll watch these too)) if they will, of course....
my recommendation: A Sort Of Homecoming (Wide Awake In America Version), probably to get better acquainted with their sound in the 80s.
Thank you for posting this video even with such difficulties (I mean copyright)
Of course he knows who they are. lol
Bad is my favorite U2 track love the version on Rattle and Hum

Good times! I spent 24 hours glued in front of tv, I only took few very quick pee breaks.
Welcome, that's why U2 to me in this particular show was the best performance, I remember that day, you dig in, you will know that you cannot have one fave song from U2, back in 80s my fave song was Sunday Bloody Sunday, and it changes like 20 times, try to listen his albums, The Joshua Tree is a amazing album, War, Achtung Baby, The Unforgettable Fire, so many songs...but Luminous Times hummmm has a special place ❤️✌🏻
You should check out their performance from the 2002 Super Bowl. It was just a few months after 911 and they were sensational
@8:28 that "rimming" effect is actually the guitar.
Was there, great day. This was the day U2 became superstars ☘
Nice video. Thanks for doing this. One thing to add: Snippets in this performance are, in order: Satellite of Love (Lou Reed); Ruby Tuesday (Rolling Stones); Sympathy for the Devil (Rolling Stones); Walk on the Wild Side (Lou Reed).
Bono took girls on the stage at later tours too. I remember the "with or without you" version vom elevation tour 2001. There is a video available I think. Very emotional.
That girl was being crushed. That is why Bono went down. The rest of the band kept playing
The Best band U2
Bono's voice was tops from 84-93
Dereck watching U2 concert to slane castle ,it's wow ❤️😍😍😍😍👏
You picked the perfect place to start a U2 journey. And what a journey it will be. Mine started in 1987. And you hit the nail on the head when you said "this is a band you have to see live". Perfect.
U2 rivals the Beatles. Watch the Peter Gabriel Red Rain and Biko performances he did at Live Aid. Fabulous.
