I don't think he liked hearing that. He just wants to be normal. Not seen as different/special. That word is supoosed to be a positive thing but alot of people don't see it that way anymore because of the way it has been used for the last few generations. Even the bullies use it negatively. Probably why he looked a bit triggered/hurt by it😢

I think it was awkward because the tone of like when someone says that to someone who has a disability. It made me cringe a bit. This is a normal yet highly intelligent man who simply has a unique look.

Kids are horrible…I grew up in 70’s & 80’s and being a freckled ginger was not ok…back then I even had teachers who bullied me, or pushed me aside based on my looks.

As a grown ass woman, my hubby and i was appalled at the bullying that adults do to others. Especially, when they don't know I'm terminally ill! But, you know what lady.... I don't know if it's staged, but it is worth a million bucks. This is what each of us needs to hear, but seldom does, and the reason why we descend into low confidence, lack of self-esteem, addiction, and depression. The lack of belonging is POWERFUL.

Indeed. But this here is my gripe with all minority groups that wage their personal war against perceptions.. most often they are focused on their own strife. The thing is there are many people in the world who are outcast and don't even have a social group to solidify with. Race comes with an entire race to back you up on, sex comes with an entire gender to back you up on including the in between variants. There are enough that you are not alone. But disfigurement and Individual difference that result in abuse are overlooked because.. it's too niche to have a movement on. I guess my point is whenever I hear arguments about sex or race I always wish the rhetoric was more about "hey let's try and view people regardless of how they look and focus more on how they are as people" rather than trying to point score on virtue. Can we just not nurture a society based on the value of who we actually are? Somehow we allow absolute A-Holes to flourish because whatever, and give anybody who is born different to a standard range of "normality" a life of hell. I got bullied as a kid because people would call me Rudolph 😢 It's been there my entire life so I don't even notice it anymore, but every once in a while someone will ask me what happened to my nose and I will tell them it's a birthmark.

Indeed. But this here is my gripe with all minority groups that wage their personal war against perceptions.. most often they are focused on their own strife.
The thing is there are many people in the world who are outcast and don't even have a social group to solidify with. Race comes with an entire race to back you up on, sex comes with an entire gender to back you up on including the in between variants. There are enough that you are not alone. But disfigurement and Individual difference that result in abuse are overlooked because.. it's too niche to have a movement on.
I guess my point is whenever I hear arguments about sex or race I always wish the rhetoric was more about "hey let's try and view people regardless of how they look and focus more on how they are as people" rather than trying to point score on virtue.
Can we just not nurture a society based on the value of who we actually are? Somehow we allow absolute A-Holes to flourish because whatever, and give anybody who is born different to a standard range of "normality" a life of hell.
And at the moment prise more attention to a certain standard of "minority" just because it has attention. Sorry but go do one. Even white males from rich countries can be born into horrible lives just because of a name or freak genetic occurrence.
Someone who suffers is someone who suffers, and that happens across the board. Of all race and persuasion. The angle shouldn't be "ignore the features/label" more than "embrace the person"
