Just once I want to see a video where the existing structure is not plumb and square. Like in real life.
That's the same situation I'm in.I thought this was going to be simple. So far its not.I paid $350 for the door.Hope I dont fk it up lol.
And for this reason I'm out.
Yea... “Easy hang”. Not. Better be pretty good with your skills and tools, cause if you actually care about a nice square install with matching reveals... it’s gonna kick your ass a little. Be ready to do shimming to make this look good!
Exactly what I what dealing with lol
I will probably take like 5 hours. My house is 90 some years old.
I’m a newly single mom and have to do these repairs in my own. This was so instructional and simple and made it put it up easy as can be. Thanks so much for this video and look forward to others.
You're welcome. Glad it was helpful!
Still single?
Just curious - long did this take you to install? Thanks
You rock!!! Wish my wife was as handy as you are. It took me an entire day just to figure out how to get the screws in and hang the door.
I'm a handy guy that has done more house work than I feel I should have, but as a now older fella, I found the instructions a little intimidating. I appreciate your video instructional and the way you did it in every respect. Keep up the good work, and God bless you and your family.
God bless you as well. You can do it!
A lot of details left out that would have been helpful shimming door handle ect
@Scott van Niekerk You would have to fur it in, however you need to make sure you’re taking your rough opening measurements correctly.
I bought my first house at 23 and I’ve been struggling finding informative videos like this!! This is so very helpful. It’s very appreciated!!
You're welcome. Glad we could help.
I just picked the exact storm door that is featured in this video and was so happy to see you made an easy installation video for it...thank you very much for saving me time and a headache. Not all hero's wear a cape.
Thanks man! Glad we could help.
If this doofus can do it so can anyone!
Would have been nice to know how to tell which end is top and which end is bottom. Also, only MENTIONED attaching slide rail extender. Didn't show how to attach it.
Thank you the demonstration. Right to the point and not over long. My door jams were square, but not plumb. What a pain in the back side!!
You're welcome. Yes, if the builders are imprecise then it is a pain to add and do renovations.
I just installed my first storm door, a Larson just like this one in this video that is reversable. The box says it's easy to install, but it took me an entire day just to figure out how to actually hang the door. I learned how to drill through the metal. Had to go to Lowe's to purchase metal drill bits. This door doesn't come put together you have to assemble all of it. It is turning out to be a major project with a big learning curve for me. But I did it!
Was easy for me. I didn’t have to drill anything.
I worked at this factory when I was in my early 20s! I just bought a door , to support made in USA. Thanks for video, very helpful.
Very cool! You're welcome
Thanks so much! I managed to do it all by myself. (Aside from picking it up and hanging it lol) Very helpful.
Awesome! Nice work.
Thank you for this video, it came very handy, I was helping the handy man fix this same storm door Friday 13th May 2022 , 7pm and ooh boy he spent hours and hours getting the correct side of the hinches on , my wife saw how we were struggling and decided to search for a tutorial video on CZcams and boom we got it done more quicker, but we were stuck again on the handle which you didn't include in your video but we figured it within another hour 😃😃😃😃😃 we started at 7pm Friday night and ended 1:30am Saturday morning guess what, it was our house warming party on that very Saturday 😃😃😃 from Birmingham Alabama this has been Emmanuel reporting to you😃😃😃.
Glad it helped. Sorry I missed the handle...corrupted video clip. I did another video on installing one on our greenhouse. This has a lot of detail for the handle.....czcams.com/video/_uMq1rfDwf8/video.html
Thanks for the information. The difference with the door I bought 3/15/23 was that there is only four hinge points but it was better than the three on my old one. Also the door hanger has slots all the way down the hinge hanger. The information you provided was great. Thanks again
Cool. You're welcome
Thanks for the helpful video. I think we both shop at the same places. I have both of those Ryobi drills, the cordless circular saw - AND the Ron Paul t-shirt!
You’re welcome. I love that shirt. Too bad it is wearing out too fast.
Good video. Thank you for taking the time to do it. Going to buy a Larson and get one hung on the front and back.
Glad it was helpful and thank you for kind comment.
@@CountryLivingExperience I got it hung and it looks great. No problems. I had to order the back door as a custom. It will take much less time now I've completed the front. Again, thanks for your time to put together the video. I really appreciate it.
You're welcome. I am glad it went on seamlessly. Have a good one.
Wonderful. It wasn't the exact door but for the most part you gave me everything I needed to do my project. Thank you.
You're welcome
I didn't find the instructions good. But this video helped me see my mistake.
Great video and information. Once I got my Larson screen door, I followed their instructions but new exactly what to expect after watching your vid. You didn’t miss a step and my door install worked perfect the first time. Thanks.
Awesome! I am glad the video was helpful. Thank you.
Just bought a Larson Liberty mid view door from Menards. Hopefully it is like your installation wise with no problems. I also like Larson doors for the fact that they are made un USA.
Hope our video helps you with that install. I think they are relatively similar. I love that about the doors as well.
Before you put all of the hinge screws in check the door clearance at top and edge. I had to drop mine down a 1/16th of an inch cus the door was scrapping at the top of the door jam. I used the temporary attachment holes to lower it by drilling a hole at the lowest point of 2 unused ones and installed screws leaving 1/8th inch loose then removed the other temporary screws and the door settled down and now I have room at the top.
I didn’t have that problem but good advice. Thank you
no handle huh? sort of was expecting that to be the next video
Thank you for the hard work and knowledge you passed on with your storm door installation video. You and others have helped me become a DIY guy over the years. Great video!
@Ryan Oldfather Thank you for the kind words. We appreciate you being here.
I wish you would have shown the steps you went through to shim the door frame
Sorry. Bad camera footage. I could not put it in the video.
I love the sound of the cicadas in the background. Oh, and nice video, thanks!
Cool. Thank you.
Thank you for very clear instructions.
You’re welcome
Two man job, since door has to be held when first screw goes into the jam, yes?
Hole in the bottom trim piece, hornets love it for housing. Spray with insecticide. I first used expanding foam, but that caused water buildup and wrecked my first Lawson.
Lastly, any external ornamental trim, don't tighten down the screws, it causes them to crack in the winter.
Not this one. Very easy for just one person.
I have seen other how to storm door videos and thought, i can do that. This made me think, i need a handyman.
It’s not hard to
No handle or lock ? thats awesome what a door !!!
It does come with a handle. There is a template that is in the packaging . You must drill the holes yourself. Youll need a 5/8" and 5/16" drill bit
ok...got the Larson door from Lowes with large dog door at bottom price 307$. I measured 10x and made sure it was level. The instructions were easy and when I watched your video and followed the instructions,( believe the instructions!) it went together simply. Only thing that happened is that the head of the manufacture screw for strike plate broke off in door frame. Ill deal with that later . it took approximately 2 hours because I'm cautiously slow :). now to get the dogs through the door
Thank you so much
You're welcome. Glad it worked out well.
Handle install would have been helpful.
literally what I came looking for... will keep looking
@@gdedgar hope you found it
Love the Decemberists music intro:)
Cool. I may need to remove it because of a copyright issue.
Thinking about installing a storm door on our screen porch, like your video, nice tip, Thanks
Glad it was helpful.
A good looking man teaching me how to save money? I’ll take it.
Thank you
Skipped the header install portion. I know it’s tedious but would be helpful to watch every step of the process. Otherwise great video. About to try this project out. Thank you.
Thank you. Sorry man. I was running short on time and that step got fast forwarded.
What a great video! Well dictated and easy to follow your information! Thanks!
Thank you. Glad it helped.
needed the latch part
Perfect video for me, I have the exact door but when I look at the map I get all confused and shit. thank you!
You're welcome
I'm installing a door on my sister's back entrance. Good info. Thank you
Cool. You’re welcome
@@CountryLivingExperience it ended up as a fairly good install, not perfect, but the door operates.
Thanks for showing every basic easy part but nothing at all about the obvious only tricky part of installing a handle when there’s no latch or handle holes in the door! It sure is easy when you skip the handle altogether! THANKS!!!!!!
You're welcome. You don't care that part of the video was corrupted and unusable....but go on...
@@CountryLivingExperience You should care about not providing a complete installation video. I would never subscribe to someone who can't handle video taping (It's CZcams after all) or who answers viewers with snarky comments.
@@timothyburchfield2220 The hilarious part is you think CZcams is something it is not. It is not a replacement for professional advice, hiring a professional, or professionally produced videos. It is not a place for hollywood filmmakers and professional construction companies collaborating to make blockbuster productions about how to put on a storm door. It is not rocket science. Get a clue. It is a place where people like you prowl around and troll when you should be working or just moving on to the next video that has the missing information.
does he need a 2 foot extension for that drill bit lol
Great video!
Thanks
Closing the storm door and putting on the closer while it’s closed is the smarter, faster, and more rational way to do this, and makes sure it is in the proper spot
Thank you for the Great useful video and perfect fast forwards.
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful.
That’s familiar: the old blue Ryobi from the original Nicad powered kit, and the later bright green one from about the time they swapped to Li batteries. But all One+. 😀
I still love that old one. I have had it since 06.
Bravo. Thank you guy.
You're welcome.
Very simple step-by-step instructions with close-up easy to see and here five star😊
Thank you
I learned this will take me all day and my dog ( it has dog door in it ) won’t give me a break until it’s done lol
Lol. I hear that.
@@CountryLivingExperience turns out my doorway is 31.3/4 and the minimum is 31.7/8 so I’ll need to figure out how to make it fit lol
@@Jon-wf3tg Yea, you might have to move that trim in just a hair.
Great video, very informative. Thank you.
You’re welcome
Larson makes a Great door. Works great.
Absolutely. They are great.
I was in need of the shim part. They make it look easy! 😕
Came for the door install
Subbed for the Ron Paul shirt 🇺🇲
Awesome! Welcome to the channel.
Man this was super helpful. Really wish you would’ve shown the handle install too though :).
Thanks. Sorry for the handle absence. We did another in-depth vid with the handle here: czcams.com/video/_uMq1rfDwf8/video.html
Thank you, you make it look so simple😀 Perfect!
Happy to help!
Good video. I have not installed a storm door in several years and wanted to see if any new techniques have been discovered but it’s all much as I remember. Thanks for posting. BTW love the shirt. Rand is a great American.
Thank you. Have a good day and good luck with the door install.
Nice video 🙏🏾❤️🇺🇸
Thank you Charles
I need that Ron Paul shirt
I wear it too much. I need to stop so I don't wear it out. lol
Why’d u skip the shim process??
Technical problems with the video clips.
Maintenance just put a Larson storm door on my apartment. They installed it, but wanted to see how it is done!
Cool
Works great
Awesome!
Very well done video!
Thank you very much!
This is just a great example of why WE SHOULD ALL BUY AMERICAN MADE! The Larson instructions were 100% understandable ... (but the door closer instructions... made in CHINA were crap).... the rest of the product was excellent! Along with this great CZcams video... the installation was a breeze ! Thanks
You're welcome. Glad it was helpful. Too bad there are fewer and fewer American Made products available as time passes.
Thank You
You’re welcome. Glad it helped.
Love the Ron Paul shirt
Thank you. We sure could use him right now.
Very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, nice Ron Paul shirt!
Thank you
If the exterior trim wasn't level, what would you have done? I have a 120+ year old home and it had foundation damage. So I'm sure everything is off. I want to make sure I have an idea before I start. Thanks in advance.
I would try to level and redo all the trim first. That will give the door the best chance of fitting properly and make the installation easier on you.
Very helpful thanks
You're welcome!
love the shirt! Thanks for the info
Awesome! You’re welcome. We did another vid on installing that same door recently and showed the latch install in full detail.
i love the decemberists intro
For marking the hinge screw holes i used a self centering bit.
Cool
Thanks man
You're welcome!
A winter storm smashed our storm door, so I just got back from Lowes with a Larson Bismark door. It's $125 and looks very much like the one you installed. If there are any differences, I suspect they're minor and I feel a lot more confident tackling this project after watching your video.
I noticed that you didn't apply any caulk to your door. Is this something you didn't have time for, or do you feel it isn't necessary? If I don't have to do it, I'd just as soon not bother.
I didn't feel that the caulking was necessary because it is not getting directly hit with any rain. It just depends on where your door is located.
Mine will be unprotected, so I guess I should go with the caulking. Thanks again for a great video.
Thumbs up from both my accounts for the Ron Paul shirt.
Awesome! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing
You’re welcome
Country living and doors with no handles and hidden shims. Thanks...
I’m in northern Virginia wouldn’t want to leave that open here
I appreciate you sweat as much as I do.
Glass does not require removal.
Nice video. Very informative. Do you remember the model number of that door?
Thank you. Sorry, it has been so long I do not remember.
I want to hand a storm door this spring and the instructions look difficult. You seem to simplify the entire process. I going to buy a Larsen door so i can follow your steps.
Cool. It’s not that hard. You’ll get it no problem
The Ron Paul shirt got you a thumbs up from me..
Awesome! Thanks.
Just bought this door but with a full height screen. Major problems installing the screen but unfortunately I didn't get the help I needed here
My issue was the hinge side, the depth is 1” and other opposite side is only 1/2. Had to take it back.
Wow. Crazy
I love the shirt! Ron Paul is a friend of mine!
Thank you. He is the greatest statesman in the last 100 years. Our country missed a great opportunity.
@@CountryLivingExperience I so absolutely agree! He’s certainly a statesman.
The door is heavy and the instructions did not state to remove the glass and screen. I found it very difficult and everything is very precise. Wish I just had one installed professionally.
Love your shirt :)
Awesome! Thanks.
Love the shirt
Thank you
Good explaining, you should have showed what you did on the trim to get a good idea. But good vid
Thanks
When you take out the center glass and screen, is it possible to reinstall it so the screen is at the top? Thank you for your help.
I have not done it but after looking at it this afternoon it seems as though you can switch them.
Thank you for getting right back to me. I had asked bc I had read that in one of the reviews on Loews' site and find it to be an prospect worthy of considering. I did notice that the on the bottom of the "window frame" on the inside, the plastic "trim" if you will, has what looks like weep holes for a lack of a better description which I would assume are meant to be on the bottom. I wonder if they can stay in the same position after reverseing the screen to be on top, or if those holes would then be facing upwards?
Do you have a video for the door knob install?
No. Sorry. I had corrupted video clips for that part.
Great video, awesome shirt!
Thank you
Dog ran as soon as you pull the trigger on the drill..my dog does the same thing
At least I know I am not alone. He is so sensitive to all power tools and equipment. Drives him nuts.
Wow Lowes just charged me $400 +$100 for the handle. You got a much better deal, man!
Wow! Inflation is a killer. Maybe it was a different model?
Love the shirt. Need to know how to install a storm door and the price per Oz of gold.
Awesome!
I used to work in that factory. Never read the instruction manual 🙂
Nice
In the bottom quarter of the jamb, the door does not seal well against the weather stripping, you can see light and definitely air gets through. What would you recommend?
Before you put the door on, you need to make the frame plumb and square.
Well you got me 85% of the way there.... I appreciate the 85% but still.
Love the shirt! (fellow libertarian) Oh... BTW. Nice video! I am looking to replace my old storm door. It looks like Larson makes a nice door. Lots of good reviews.
Awesome. Glad you found our video. They do make a great door. Hope the video helps with the install.
@@CountryLivingExperience He attempted to run as a Republican in 2012.. The door is okay but damn it's dirty. Just got the highview and the edges of the glass are full of fingerprint smudges and there is swarf all over and some black grease to around the metal joints on the lower part of mine. FYI swarf is metal particles/shavings from the machining process.
@@trevors8577 You must have gotten a bad one. Mine was clean and pristine when I opened that box.
@@CountryLivingExperience lol I wish.. I got TWO dirty ones with the glass edges covered in prints. Haven't installed the second one so I haven't looked that close, just seen it's glass was full of prints too.
@@trevors8577 Wow. That sucks.
Looking up how to do this for myself and it opens to The Decemberists? I'm subbing just for that.
Awesome
Hi, I’m looking to install a similar Larson storm door on my existing decorative exterior front door which has sidelights- and I just noticed that the door knob goes past the door frame/trim- giving me no cavity whatsoever to install this storm door- ugh. So I’m assuming I would need add a frame and build out and add additional trim/moulding to give me a cavity to mount the storm door framing onto. I’m assuming there is no other way around it, correct?
I think you are correct. Without seeing it, I couldn't say for sure though. It is very odd that your door handle sticks out that far.
@@CountryLivingExperience thank you
Awesome shirt
Thanks. I still have a couple.
Ron Paul 2012!
Absolutely!
Lol I ordered one of those shirts and got scammed. Now I hate Ron Paul.
@@CountryLivingExperience Wish we had him in 2016 and 2020, but Jo is a good candidate too, but nobody is Ron Paul.
@@GridIndustries He broke the mould for sure.
How do you remove the glass? You did not show that step
You remove it just like any other glass door or window. It just has spring loaded tabs that you pull back to release it.
Glass does not require removal... I did it without removing them and before watching this video. I came here to see how hardware was installed.
