- A demonstration of SOAP (Speech Output Announcing Programmes) the talking washing machine interface for the blind. See www.instructables.com/id/Talk... for details of the system.
That is just freakin awesome. My parents are both blind and its a pain whenever they have to buy any new appliance. I have a Samsung washing machine that I am soon going to exchange for a new one and would love to give it to my parents but I cant as they cant use it because of this problem (that is actually how I found this video). Unfortunately I am not skilled enough to build something similar to that solution. I will investigate if there is any other more simple solution to make the machine acessible to them. Congratulations on your fantastic work.
As a totally blind person I think this is really awesome! I was just talking to some of my friends about the fact that I don't know of any talking washing machines well, I do now. It's really cool. Sucks you're not selling it yet though. You probably help a lot of blind people.
Hi CMP Variety. This video is part of an article describing the full construction of SOAP - The Talking Washing Machine Interface for the Blind. Please take a look - maybe someone could build such a device for you? I am a hobbyist in this field, so I am not in a position to manufacture and sell my creations at large scale! I did contact Samsung suggesting that produce a talking washing machine, but I had no reply. Here is a link to the Instructables article:

@@petermead8057 I'll give that a look at some point I can't at the moment though. Thanks. By the way good luck trying to get a hold of Samsung because quite frankly they're hard to get a hold of you can't even get a response from them. You already know that but I'm just saying I have the same issue. Wrote them about something else and they never did reply back. I hate businesses like that, the least they could do is write a message and say hey we got your feedback or whatever, but they just completely ignore us.
Awesome Job: Samsung will be saying why didn`t we think of this, next years Model, will have something similar, i think it is so Great that you have the knowledge and know how to do this
Thank-you for sharing
Thank you Wally Be. I have emailed Samsung, but no reply yet...
Do take a look at the full article
(link in reply above), and please vote!
that's a good non invasive solution...well done!
Hi Ronen. The video forms part of my Instructable at www.instructables.com/id/Talking-Washing-Machine-Interface-for-the-Blind-AK/
@@petermead8057 I know, I came from there 👈😃
Awesome Job man
+Peter Mead I love that idea! I wonder if my company could make something similar for appliances like that. By the way, I love your accent! Is that British? I wonder if that machine works on dryers as well. Like your wife, I'm totally blind, and one thing I would love to design is a washing machine and dryer pair that can have as many cycles as you like. Wouldn't that be amazing?
Hi MsAussie. Yes, I am a Brit! I was born in the South West of England so have a rural accent but this has been modified over time after periods living in London and France. I would be pleased if your company could produce a similar device. SOAP was specifically designed to be an add-on so the warranty would not be broken but it would be much easier to wire a speech system into the machines. The CZcams video is only part of the full article that appeared here:

Please take a look at that - it has very detailed instructions on how to build SOAP.

Wait you voice over the talking thingy? Cool
Yes - I designed and built the speech output device for my wife as she is blind. Read the full article here www.instructables.com/Talking-Washing-Machine-Interface-for-the-Blind-AK/
Wonderful idea, we just got a new Samsung washer, and I have to use a flashlight to see what I’m doing on it because it doesn’t have good knobs and I am visually impaired
Hi Josh. Please see the full article here: www.instructables.com/id/Talking-Washing-Machine-Interface-for-the-Blind-AK/
My wife Sue (who is totally blind) has been using the device for nearly 2 years. The article has full instructions on how to build SOAP and has pictures and videos of Sue (and her Guide Dog)!
