A lack of experience can lead to self doubt, so let's start turning that intimidation into experience and see what happens. Watch and learn from my mistakes, and hopefully gain the confidence to try these things out for yourself.

Great honest vid! DIY slip formula (taken from a pro applying 3M pro film, unavail to the public) is 600ml water, 400ml 70%isopropyl alcohol, 2ml baby shampoo. Or do the math for a smaller batch! It seems ridewrap may be a super wide 3M pro film custom cut by Ridewrap. The 3M scotchguard is available to public but not self healing and not as pliable but still very good. The 3M pro as well as ridewrap is self healing to some extent. I used the scotchguard with great results as I did not want as much coverage as the custom ridewrap offers. Cost me 20$, but if you want full coverage the Ridewrap is a really good price as it is a better coverage and is already cut, which saves a ton of time if you want ultimate coverage. It would be almost impossible for the DIY person to cut precisely like ride wrap does (actually impossible!) in a reasonable amount of time. If I was to fully cover, I'd go the Ridewrap, otherwise I had great success with the 3M. As for some bubles that I had on the top tube...I tried the pin needle poke, then let water out,,,,does not work that well. Then I used a syringe blood draw needle, made a hole like you would enter a vein, so not from the top but along the tube. Remove the needle, water comes out, and push and the rest comes out, no scar visible. I even removed bubble that were tiny this way, just to see what was possible. The syringe needle is the way to go , if you did not see the bubbles while applying the film. To see them better, shine a light along the tube, not from the top. You'll be amazed how much easier it is to see. All in all, faster with Ridewrap, more coverage. Longer with DIY, less coverage, cheaper. Also as on the first chainstay on this video, it seems the wrap will not adhere along tight bends,,,,you just need to massage the middle and remove water, then really go to the edges slowly, back and forth, it seems they do not want to bend, go back to middle, repeat the massage, eventually everything sticks in place , even when you think ''man it's not adhering'', it eventually does. If this helps even one person, great!

Ride Wrap themselves say not to use isopropyl alcohol in the solution, that's not to say it doesn't work but they do address it specifically.

Nice. I just did this about a week or so on my new megatower. It was definitely tedious and I was pretty intimidated starting out as well. I kept reminding myself to not rush and be patient. As the wrap went along I found myself figuring out better techniques for getting the wrap to lay how it was supposed to. In the end I had to make a couple cuts myself to get a small piece to lay right, but overall the whole thing turned out pretty dang good and I was pretty proud of myself. Lol. Great vid man.
Thanks, B19! It definitely gets easier as it goes. I've since done two more bikes, including Ali's new DH bike which I just finished up. I got a tip from someone to use a heat gun to soften the vinyl a bit for both tricky areas and to help push out the problem moisture/bubbles, which definitely helped. Wraps 2 & 3 came out even better. The Megatower is such a rad bike by the way. Lots of fun times ahead on your new bike, no question! Cheers.

It took me a few hours to wrap my Hightower. The chain stays were the hardest part, and I made a minor relief cut too. The swoop between the top tube and seat tube was a challenge too. I agree the solution is important. I started with too little soap.

It really is! I recently did my 6th wrap, and it's become a lot more enjoyable. Kick on some chill music and take it easy and steady.
Added bonus, Ride Wrap started putting a measurement dropper in the package for the slip solution, and it's way easier to get it right now.
You aren't actually an average guy. :) You did great. I've done many types of decals and wraps ( only one on a bike ) and its all pretty easy but I have previous experience putting vinyl on boats and jet skis. I love the idea of this series. Keep it up!

I’ve done about a dozens wraps since this one, my best advice is to just really take your time and you don’t have to do it all in one sitting. You can break it up in the several sessions so that you can be patient through the process. I’ve come to enjoy doing it!

Thanks for this great video! I literally have had my ride wrap sitting on a shelve for almost 2 years because I’ve been intimidated. Now this has given me the courage to attempt it. Right after I clean my SUPER dirty bike. Just a tip for someone getting a new bike. DON’T GET A BIKE WITH MATTE PAINT!!! You’ll hate how much dirt sticks to it.
Matte can be a pain, but the wrap definitely makes it a ton easier to clean.

The solution really is key. Take time on that first piece and really dial the solution in and you’ll be good to go.

I finally got around to ordering a kit from Invis (because they had my size frame in-stock) and based my tackling the work because of this video. Pretty good going so far. I've been taking my time, going slow as needed, and being sure not to rush it. Got the larger pieces done so far as well as a couple others. I'll finish here shortly when the temp gets a little cooler when the sun starts to go down. Great video BTW!!

Hey Rich, I just got myself a new frame and will be doing this exact same thing in next next week. I've always used invis for my wraps but the ride wrap product looks a little more user friendly with numbered parts right on the sheet and they supply wipes and solution for you. I like the new DH rig. Hope I can meet up and ride with you again sometime soon and put that new ride to the test.
Hey Kellen! I gotta say, I was impressed with their product. I know I complained a little about dispensing the slip solution, but it’s hard to fault them, since I don’t have a better solution that would be reasonable for them to offer. At least they provide it!

@@SemiSendy The invis protection just said to mix part baby shampoo with water. Their kit only comes with the wrap and squeegee and that's it. But their wrap does perform well and this will be my 4th bike I am putting it on. As for my new bike, I don't want to give to much away yet but I have a new stumpjumper evo frame that is currently off getting custom painted.
I just applied the Bikeshield protection which is very similar. And the first piece was also a mess. I would really like to see a duplicate of one of the pieces as a practice piece in the kits. Anyway thanks for the vid.

I want something like this on my bike but I'm scared of some horror stories I read on the web about the wrapping pulling off the paint or leaving nasty, sticky residue when removing it a few years later, especially if the bike was in heat/sun during summer a lot.
Nice video! I wraped my frame a few months back and also ran into difficulties on curved surfaces. I ended up using a heat gun to soften up the material. It made the material comply much better to the curves and bends! If you ever take it off, make a video about that.. I'm curious to see if there are difficulties to overcome there ;-)
A heat gun or hair dryer can really help with those tricky pieces, especially the funky multi-angle ones!
My Bronson v4 kit was pretty far off in a few places. Process probably took an hour or two more than it should have because pieces were too long or like the right seat stay had a curve that the pattern didn’t account for. It looks ok now, there are some places I had to trim myself and a few places dust formed a bubble, maybe it could have looked perfect with another few hours but it already took me 3-4 hours and lots of frustration. Maybe some kits fit better than others, but I’m pretty frustrated with the time this took and the end result being kinda meh. It will protect the bike, but at a cost and time and some sacrifice to the look of the bike. Imperfections, even small ones, in the wrap make the bike look worse even while preventing imperfections in paint from wear.
Great video! I love the riding clip at the end, so smooth. I’m new to mtb and I have two questions. I noticed when you braked there was the squeaky sound, is that normal? Also, how long do you think it will take someone to practice and be able to ride a trail like you did in the video? I have zero experience riding on the trail and I’d like to know what how much effort is required before I can enjoy it like you did

Yes, it definitely would have! I've wrapped two more bikes since this video, and used a heat gun on the trickier pieces. I wish I could add that tip in after the fact. The good news is the other two had much more straight forward stays and were much easier in general. I'm realizing that supreme's stays were abnormally challenging.

@@SemiSendy I bought a 2019 Santa Cruz v10 off a young ripper who was moving on to a new platform. I have only 1 ride on it, but definitely notice better stability at the rock over my megatower. He had frame protection on it, so the frame is in great shape but I want to take it off because it is kind of looking rough after a couple years.
@@robertharrison490 Those v10's are sweet! I had a so-so start with the Supreme, but I was feeling pretty tired and sore my first couple days on it. Took it out last Saturday and felt way better. I was definitely being much more dynamic on the bike, almost exaggerating, and the bike responded really well. I rode it at TTC on a lap Sunday too. I was however completely wiped out and sore after. It's a lot to throw around!

My 2022 Trek is a M / L, They offer medium or large, any thoughts on which on to get?
I went through the exact same struggle. I spent 3 hours on the first piece and gave up. I had to decide to cut my lost early in the process in case I got half way done and could not finish. I ripped the chain stay part off but maybe I should try again and pay more attention to the solution ratio. I can always buy that one piece.
I figured many others out there would know my pain. Do they sell the pieces a la cart? Good info to know for sure :)

Love the new version for sure. The top section where Trail 1 and Middle Finger drop off needs some love and consideration, but otherwise it's much better.

That Talladega at Windrock run looks amazing, I gotta try it. What direction was that/what day was that or is it a one direction only trail? Also, looking on MTB Project I'm not seeing a trail named Talladega there. Hopefully just app user error on my part. I must ride this trail!
Hey Tyler, it’s one way only, DH trail at Windrock Bike Park. It’s their only “flow” trail though. Rest of the park is more tech riding. Awesome place to ride!

Heck yeah, George. I have wrapped another couple of bikes since then, and they keep getting better, although I’m still not at all upset about the first one. Pretty happy with it. I’ve been using gloss on glossy finish Bikes, and I got a matte kit for a bike that’s two ton half Matte, half gloss. I think it’s a good idea to stick with the original finish, that is of course if you like the original finish.
I used a hair dryer/heat gun to remove bubbles, excess solution and to be able to slightly stretch the film where I needed to.
The hair dryer is a huge help! I’ve been using it on subsequent wraps. It would have made a huge difference on that first stay in this video.
Yea the in the Ride Wrap videos they make it look so easy! loo So not the case!

My first wrap was a struggle but it got better as I got further into it. That said, I’ll pay some one else to do it next time.
I'm starting to get more of the hang of it. I've since done two more bikes in the last week and they both went MUCH better.

I'm halfway through an epic installation of a tailored ride wrap kit on my brand new Canyon Spectral 29 CF8, and I'm having a hell of a time with the edges not sticking. I wonder if anyone has a pro tip to get the edges of the tape to stick, especially where it ends on a curve. I've tried the microfiber and hair dryer, but neither seem to work. I went over the edges again this morning after letting them sit overnight, and I've gotten some to stick but others are still protesting. I could live with the aesthetics of unstuck edges, but I don't want them to start peeling over time.
Also, where are you riding in the end of the video? It looks sick!
The best cure I’ve found for the edges was to push hard with the microfiber using my thumbs pressing all the moisture out. I applied as much pressure as I could.

Same bike. Same problem. I would NOT recommend buying this kit. Doesn't fit the bike. The install was frustrating enough that I'd rather have dings in the paint.
This seems like my personal Hell lol

For the one in this video, I used a gloss to match the gloss finish on the supreme. Since then I put a matte wrap onto a Revel Ranger, and love it as well. Either finish is high-quality.

Was to much concentrated solution make it to sticky for putting these on?
The opposite. Too little makes it too tacky. Too much makes it hard to get it to stick once you press the solution out.
Did you get the gloss or matte wrap?
Gloss on this Supreme. I did a matte one on my Ranger and it’s also really nice.
The bike looks awesome but you put a fox 40 sticker on a fox 49 fork
Hey Emmett, thanks for watching! 40/49 are the same fork. Fox temporarily tried the 49 number for the 29” version before deciding to change it to 40 to be inline with the rest of their naming conventions. The color I wanted was available only with 40, which was fine by me.

Absolutely, I’ve done and handful of wraps since this video and used a hairdryer to soften and form difficult areas.
The wrap on this Supreme is holding up great! Been through a lot of mud and muck already. There’s spots where dirt has gotten under the trouble areas as well as at ding spots, but it hasn’t migrated and the bike is still in near perfect cosmetic condition. I’m overall still very happy with it even being my “first and worse”. 👌
I wrapped my supreme in clear tape that's marketed for protecting doors against pet claw marks, due to being a classless cheapskate.
Sounds like a solid approach. I got the 3m protective film first, but I must have done a lousey job cleaning the frame. It all started to peel off quick. I figured spending the bucks for ride wrap would motivate me to do a better job.
Next time try it outside in the sun where it’s warm so it’s more malleable
Hey Dirthound, that’s a good idea! Seems like I’m doing a lot of these in the colder overcast months, so I’ve actually been using a hairdryer for tough to mold pieces. Just finished my 7th wrap since I made this video last year, and I’ve really come to enjoy the process now.
@@SemiSendy Actually I have yet to install ride wrap yet, waiting on my new rig and wrap to be delivered. I'll most likely let the ride wrap sit in the sun for a bit to make it more malleable before application. Any suggestions to offer to make the application process easier?
@@TheDirthoundYou will definitely want to work in the cleanest environment possible. Small bits of dust and what not can be a real pain when it gets between the frame and the wrap. Also, really make sure you get the slip solution ratio correct, makes all the difference in the world. I use a very generous amount of slip solution on the front and back of each piece as well as on the frame area that I’m applying it to. Work in a really well lit area, and look at the rap from different angles to make sure there’s no bubbles you’re missing as you go along. Also, the hairdryer works wonders as a heat source when working with tricky pieces. Last piece of advice, definitely take your time and go slowly with each piece. Put on some good music and don’t give yourself a timeframe to try to finish by.

Ridewrap is overpriced and the application process is pure frustration. Utter watse of money and time.
