Now I'm happy I just picked up a Pico 4.
I had the Pico4 and switched to the Quest 3. But only because I play competitive sports games and I need the 120 hz and always fast updates). The Quest 3 is a bit better everywhere except for the price and the comfort (even with Elitestrap, because it's lighter and the weight is nicely distributed).
There are 3 groups I recommend the Pico 4 to
In PCVR they are almost on par (Quest 3 slightly better), but since the comfort and price is significantly better, I would go for the Pico 4 (+Virtual Desktop) for pure PCVR.
Pure sports gamers (unless you play competitively) will also have more fun with the Pico 4, due to the better comfort and because the graphics are second rate
And casual gamers who don't need a huge game library and have to watch their money when buying.
Ultimately, the Quest 3 is the better, more sophisticated headset and if money is no object, I would always choose it over the Pico 4. If it does, I would recommend the Pico 4 to the groups mentioned above.
Thanks for the review and I appreciate your honest opinion
Very interesting, we need a part 2 comparison.
My Q3 went back after just a few days. Great lenses but awful screen door effect that actually gave me motion sickness!
I bought a used Pico 4 for less than £200 and I think it beats the Q3 hands down.
Either you got a defective model or you never bought a quest 3, due the the new lenses that you mentioned screen door effect was near ultimately removed, let alone worse than a pico which after playing for a few hours I can confidently say is literally glorified quest 2.
@@absurdvibes8176 Nope. Bought directly from Meta. Strange how countless others have also commented on the excessive screen door effect. Having owned five VR HMD's (including a Q2) I can say, hand on heart, that the Q3 has by far the worst case of SDE. It saddened me as I really thought it would be the replacement for my G2.
I don't know what you're inferring when you say 'new lenses', but the lenses on the Q3 are indeed excellent, but I think you're getting confused. The lenses aren't responsible for the presence of SDE. It's caused by the shape and orientation of the individual pixels of the screen, and Meta seems to have dropped the ball by trying to be too radical. The brilliant lenses just make the terrible SDE even more evident.
@@absurdvibes8176I don't know if I'm the one who has eye problems or it's the people who have eye problems or just people want to troll to misinform people but simply quest 3 for me is worse in almost every important way than pico 4, although the resolution of quest 3 is similar to that of pico 4, I notice more SDE in quest 3 apart from the fact that it still has that mura effect and light pollution like pico 4 in that sense there is no improvement, the fov quest is totally atrocious for me even though it is supposed to be somewhat larger than pico 4, speaking of numbers, in practice this is not the case since quest 3 has a horrible overlap compared to the overlap of pico 4 which is literally a perfect oval In my personal experience I even notice that it is sharper from corner to corner when I adjust my pico 4 well than with the quest 3, not to mention that ergonomically the pico 4 is more comfortable for most people out of the box and much more economical than the quest 3 Taking into account that you will almost necessarily have to buy accessories for this one, in conclusion for my pico 4 it is a better viewer than quest 3 on paper and it is more economical for the only use cases that I see for quest 3 are standalone use and that for some reason you want to try some MR experiences from the rest for my quest 3 it is a mediocre headset for the price
You sir are full if sh#t 😂😂😂😂
Why would rotating the panels make any difference to AA function? If you think it needs to be perfectly upright then the second a line is tilted it would be jagged according to that theory. This to me seems like an software optimisation issue.
No, this is exclusive to the Quest 3. Even Quest 2 did not have this problem. And on top of that pixels are way more visible because of the tilted screens.
My only issue with the PICO 4 is the massive glare and ghosting.
I tried the Quest 3 and that issue has been reduced by say 70% or 80%.
(I'm using Virtual Desktop for both of them).
Kind of wish the P4 had the lenses of the Q3, then it'd be perfect.
There is no extra glare or ghosting on Pico4, especially compared to the Quest3.
If you are talking about lens reflecting outside light. That's a problem with your facemask fitment, light leaking, not the headset or lens.
@@MrTechcat i beg to differ. Here's direct camera shots from my pico 4:

Hi, I have a Pico 4 and I notice some fog/smudge in the middle of the screen while moving my head slowly up and down or side to side. It's almost like there is some smudge on the other side of the lenses. And on that smudge I see what seems to be multiple curves. It's barely noticeble but it's there.
It's this normal of the pancake lenses, or is it some potential flaw? Anyone?
And yes I tried cleaning the lenses several times.
Me he comprado las pico 4.. y no me arrepiento! ❤
thnx for your review dude
Better processor in Quest 3. The power consumption and heat is supposed to be less than Pico 4, but I think the Meta uses the new cameras to record everything the user does.
Makes sense now! Why it's overheating so much with all spyware running in the background. :D
@@MrTechcat Because Chinese companies like bytedance are not known for spying lol
Im staying in Pico 4 by now, I love PCVR.
BTW, how are you playing RE4 VR on PC? Is the modded version?
It's a mod for Hellsplit: Arena.
How did you run resident evil 4 on the pico, i thought it was only on the stand alone on quest.
8:55 is Resident Evil 4 Quest 3 standalone
5:24 is not RE4 just a mod map in Hellsplit Arena on PC
I don't have a Quest 3, but on the Quest 2 I have awful antialiasing when using link or airlink with an AMD video card. Doesn't happen with Virtual Desktop though. Which video card are you using and have you tried Virtual Desktop to see if it's just as bad? I was blaming AMD, but based on the Virtual Desktop results I think Meta doesn't care about AMD cards (to be fair neither does Varjo or DPVR) nor PCVR. Certainly Link and Airlink aren't a priority.
I'm using RTX card. And I'm comparing Quest Link with Pico Streaming Assistant. I think, it's fair.
I did not want to buy VD second time on Meta store since I'm not planning to use it and I have one already on my Pico.. There is no benefits of the VD in terms of quality at least on the Pico.
And I totally agree that Quest Link seems like it has not been updated for years.. but that's what you get with Meta.. same with ALL STANDALONE games I haven't found A SINGLE UPDATED game for Q3.. they all show Q2 controllers even on standalone Meta store. And even advertised games are not yet updated in the store. So again I'm just showing how it's 3 weeks after Q3 launch..
Yeah, they will probably update many things in 2024... but we will have new headsets by that time too. So we will be comparing with Pico 5 or similar.
@@MrTechcatbig mistake cause virtual desktop is way better then air link or link right now I won't touch those 2 anymore I have to hard reset my headset everytime
@@MrTechcatit's not a bad thing really it pushes people on virtual desktop to buy that product that's not affiliated with Meta. So I'd say I'm happy af for that company
@@jessiestarr4600 well, it just shows that Quest's software isn't the best and that is even more spending to fix all software problems with the Quest. There is little benefit from VD on Pico actually it has less functionality than the native streaming assistant.
Pico 5 going be amazing
Yeah if they stay In business there has been talks of shutting down
The ending of this video made my day 😂😂😂
I love my Pico 4. Mixed reality is literally what I don't want to do. I want to escape reality not see it for $500+ bucks lol.
I did like mixed reality on Quest. I think, Pico could bring similar MR environment option. They already have it in MR apps, just needs to add a passthrough option for the whole home OS.
.... You can do both.....
Yeah in my personal opinion mixed reality/ AR will never really take off in a big way it be more of a novelty, at least until it becomes useful in everyday tasks/life and fits into cheap sunglasses or something like that.
Lol no drop dead the cabin is pretty cool

I’m new to VR and had bought the quest 3 for Iracing. It looked really good the first time i put it on and i was very impress But after driving for 2 laps I started getting the jagged edges and blurry background. I thought there was something wrong and spent 3 days trying to work it out but no matter what i did after a few laps I would get jagged edges and the left lens look like it was submerged in water.
Idk if you fixed this by now but you need to mess with settings in oculus debug tool. And I recommend always being wired to your PC for simracing, seems like there is too much going on at once to be good while wireless. I'll test that again once I got my wifi6e router.
My Pico 4 is awesome for PCVR with BoboVR and a custom printed facemask it gets sooooooo comfy with unlimited battery life and PicoConnect makes tweaked a lot better image than Virtual Desktop for free love it great work and good comparision
Haven't really noticed any of the issues mentioned with quest 3. Lens havent fogged, colors look great, havent seen the jagged edges thing. Maybe I just dont analyze it and instead just play. Im also coming from the mobile vr era so my comparison is from a pretty dated setup to this. Maybe people that come from early iterations of vr then straight to a quest 3 would be less likely to notice due to the immense difference in quality from the original vive 1 or a google daydream etc.
yes, you will notice only after using a better headset. Sometime time ago, even the Quest 2 looked great...
So others already confirmed that they had Quest 3 die playing PC VR from overheating at 90Hz. This is why Meta has locked Quest 3 to 72Hz but it's still overheating.

I use Pico 4. I was thinking about buying Quest 3, but after watching your video, I changed my mind.)
I have returned my Quest3 and using Pico4 now. :)
How do i play RE4 on the pico 4 ?
Im buying the pico 4 but im scared the pico 5 is coming soon should i eait or buy the pico 4 first?
Pico 5 got cancelled bro...due to poor sales of Pico 4
Ever find a fix to this or settings that make it better?
Found settings that make Q3 even worse. If you put high refresh, there is extra screen tearing and if you put max resolution, bitrate, battery does not last even 1h!!
@@MrTechcat I usually run everything at max already. 90hz 1.5 on the oculus slider, 960 bitrate, and pretty much all in game setting to max. I have a i9 13900k 4090 and it seems to handle it. I haven’t had battery issues. You might have a faulty unit. I have noticed jagged lines especially white straight mines but that’s about it
@@thegarch3293 I have Quest 2 video clearly showing the problem look at the sword at 120Hz czcams.com/users/shortsDMPfzW4ziJM same problem still present on the Quest 3 little less visible because Q3 can't even do 120hz.
The battery next to the chip heats it up.
And also they market these to be connected to a pc
I own both P4 and Q3. Fully agree about the Q3, rotating the panels was a horrible design decision. There is 'color grain' on the ENTIRE screen, regardless of scenario. Pico looks clear and smooth in comparison. But Q3 has better edge to edge clarity, can squeeze a lot more bitrate from VD, better audio (not mic), and had the fantastic option of 960mbps quest link if you want to tethered (no compression visible). But most importantly Q3 is 2x more expensive and is horribly uncomfortable stock, so yeah. Oh and I also noticed the weird angle of controllers in games. I like Pico controllers more, though in fast paced tracking the Quest wins.
Guy was trying to say the Quest 3 tracking is terrible on another guys video.... While everybody else says the tracking is great.
Totally a paid advertiser for Pico. For sure.
I bet he ends up deleting my comments here.
Pico 4 is just only have a weaker SoC, but that doesn't make Quest 3 a better headset for PCVR where computing toll is on the PC. For that, Pico 4 is still superior, and way cheaper at the same time. Pico Video also has a lot fun content to watch. An used Pico 4 is a steal now considering the price of Quest 3.
yes, it's mostly about the value for money.. used Pico is under 250 euros, brand new selling at 380e.. and Quest 3 is like 800 eur upgrade but offers very little on the table.
I think, the smartest thing is to wait to see Pico 5 offering and Quest 3 will be falling in price fast after Gen 2 competition comes to market in 2024.. many headsets might be using Oled screens that would alone be enough to forget Quest 3 as already outdated thing.
11:28 whats the name of the app?
Unichat
You just saved me a lot of money. Can you do a pico 4 vs HP Reverb G2?
Quest 3 is actually alot better I have the pico aswell it's going back to where it came from though I love my quest 3. My main thing though buy a bobovr headstrap so you don't strain your neck. Mic sucks but if you own a pc you can fix the mic with vb virtual cable I was able to.
Also, I have bad news for pico users it's going to be a rough road. As for the reverb g2 it's a Tiny sweet spot vs quest 3 lenses that has a sweet spot that covers 75%-85% of the lense vs 15%-20% of g2.
As a fullbody user with vive trackers + basestations I absolutely hate my pico 4 solely because of how bad this setup works, the playspace drifts too much to the point where even 4th tracker placed on the headset for continuous calibration doesn’t help much, the tracking is so innacurate, trackers won’t ever be in their correct places, expect them to offset by a few centimeters constantly, I didn’t try any of the meta headsets myself, but my friends who went from pico to quest pro report noticeable improvement in quality of tracking, less offsets and fewer playspace drifts
Using Vive trackers on standalone will always give you a bad time. If you want standalone with FBT switch to Slime trackers, pretty much all videos on my channel are done with Slime. But Pico native trackers are coming in just a couple of months. I have put a Pico FBT Short already running those trackers in Beta.
Oh yeha cyberpunk with Real mod Vr Rocks!
Thx
Wait for few update from meta! All the time fix everithing from day to day

I LOVE PICO 4 ❤❤
thats one adventurous kitty. haha.
I have both, and I prefer pico 4 is the best. I will sell my quest 3
I couldnt stand pico 4 washed out colours. Its not more accurate and at least you have a contrast setting in q2 and q3. For many games, movies the display in majority of comments and reviews is better. Fan blowing into eyes in pico 4 also annoying as hell. It is comfortable headset if you mean headstrap. Some people may prefer q3 not only for mr. Wifi6 also helps for pcvr users. And pancake lenses have better cliarity out of the box while pico4 usually better at center and blurry at the edges. I had q2, pico 4 (2 devices wchich also have a little bit diffrence in lenses so qc was mess). I think its better to wait for pico5 instead of pico4. Of course it may be a good entry level and cheap headset when prices drop.
Pico fan has been fixed in first month after release. Another thing I did not mention Quest 3 lens fog up even now. As the headset overheats, even room temp is low 21'C now.. so I could only imagine what will be on hot summer days.
Pico colors are not washed on steam games. If you are playing Oculus store games that's a whole another story, why Meta store makes games look like poop on all other headsets.
But it's obvious Meta makes "colors pop" on Quest and that's a negative as shown in many PC games from Resident Evil to Half Life, VRChat and etc.
@@MrTechcat weird as I had upgraded them. I returned q2 and pico4 in may 2023 and that was something that I didnt like. Its foggy after some time in it. In terms of standard headstrap its true. Pico was more comfortable out of the box. In terms of colours i prefer q2, q3. I think pico and orher vr devices should have some display settings to allow us to calibrate. Unfortunetly i didnt have this option on pico 4 in standalone mode. I was able to adjust settings in pcvr by edit ini file but most of the media, yt i watched over standalone mode. If they only give me this it might be a reason for me to stay a little bit longer. Of course i will need to upgrade headstrap with battery which also lack in quest 3 and cover to rid a fog a little bit. In terms of fog i remeber glare on pico4 which is reduced in quest 3. I mean both of them are great vr headset with cons and pros. If someone has a smaller budget i would say pico4 is a killer but for me q3 gives me a few more features like mr (I can work, play games while kids are around or watch some media while they occupie tv) with good clarity and image quality. With that competition in vr industry i cant wait for pico5 as it might be another step up in image quality and features.
Ok i have had my quest 3 for about a week now, and i have tested it. The results are great and I am very happy with my purchase. The passthrough is super useful and cool, games look great, and i would recommend picking one up instead of the pico for sure. The controllers track great and are way more useable with out tracking rings. Im not worry about hitting those stupid rings together and that gives me way more confidence when gaming. The face pad does the job nicely however would recommend getting a better head strap. Wish the battery life was better because tbh i could have this thing on all day. Sounds incredible with the built in speakers and mic quality is way more clear in my testing. In conclusion buy a quest 3 if you can afford it. It’s definitely the new vr standard.
The new standard without face or eyes tracking ? LOL
Wait for the pico 5-pro-pro max next year for cheap and better vr or Wait for vision pro if you can. But definetly not the quest 3.
@@SkyclanTheAdventurer while yes face and eye tracking is cool, i don’t thinks it a necessity. I also don’t think that most
People want to wait a year when the quest 3 is already out and has some noticeable up grades. Plus I live in America and the pico is not even available. (Side note: Thats why i would get a quest 3 in other country’s, because it’s available to one of the biggest markets in the world. That translates to more games and more support of third parties)
I do wish meta had more competition, business competition is always a good thing for consumers. In the USA meta has a strong foot hold on the market and thats a good and a bad thing.

Sound like they need beta testers before releasing
Quest fans are beta simps for Meta :D
This video is super biased in favour of Pico. There are many analysts who have all brands of devices, who don't enjoy large numbers of subscribers, who aren't sent anything or paid by Meta, and who independently go out of their way to compare features for VR's sake, using testing software, lens testing etc, and they don't report that much favouritism for Pico at all, at least not compared to Quest 3. But whoever wants to believe everything that is said in this video is, of course, free to do so.
Many 'independent' creators are still living in US and using Meta's affiliate links. So Pico is not even an option for them to suggest.
And many big creators who did not get invited for the Q3 launch this time. Still can't trash Meta because of the fanbase. I have see many videos just a bit criticising some things on the Q3 or even joking. And making apologies in the next vid because of the backlash in the comments and community.
Plus they can even get into a legal trouble trashing the thing in US. For making 'damage to the brand and lost sales'. I would not go in general why youtube has turned into one never ending sponsored ad for most tech channels.
@@MrTechcat Im talking from Europe, and i mean European channels.
It's subjective too. I want a comfortable wireless headset to play for 1-2h sessions shooters or active full body tracking games. I want an immersive view and good PC performance, good value for money. Pico is a perfect fit for this and Pico puts a lot of effort to make the best 'VR fitness experience'.
Other people might want the opposite if they play only sitting a racing or flying game, always plugged with the cable.
There is no best VR headset.. but for my use it was very easy pick as Pico is miles better simply because of the screens, comfort and better controller tracking. Plus I do have FBT Motion Trackers for it too.
And I did not find a single benefit that would make me want to keep the Q3.
@@MrTechcat Pico is good product for VR scene, thats for sure.

I am really confused. The review people have so much difference in their vision.
Meta sponsored "reviews" are not reviews. They have sponsored channels and creators that talk BS like "oh, maybe the new headset does feel more comfortable" even it's the opposite. And would never say about any issues of dead pixels, overheating and all other problems regular buyers do have now.
Quest subreddit straight deleted my video with issue about overheating and flickering pixels on the screen as a 'faulty unit'. And yet then I have found many people with the same issue and Meta pushes update to limit refresh and overheating...
As whole Oculus PC store makes games run with wrong settings on NON Meta headsets. And stupid little things like that trying to give FALSE IMPRESSIONS in every step.
@@MrTechcatwhat about pico sponsored reviews..... Like yours

did you wash your hands after pooping in Mixed Reality? :)
I was actually interested to see a proper comparison but this guy is way too biased that I couldn't even watch the whole thing, and reading his response to your comment just confirms that he is a bit of a joke as a reviewer.
@@arminglf Yeah he is full of shit. Pico 4 lenses are not even close to quest 3 lenses. Not only do quest 3 lenses have considerably more edge to edge clarity, but also a lot less glare/ghosting. Plus, pico 4 screens are considerably dimmer than quest 3 as well. The only thing that Pico 4 is better at that really matters and is not upgradable , is the binocular overlap.
why we as a consumer fight with each other.. why we become fan of a brand or gadget. we should not be a fan rather we should highlight the faults because ultimately these companies are making money from us its our hard earned money that goes in to it.i was planning to buy one but now I will not waste my money in to any of these Sh%%$#t. as what I understood that the VR is still in its very early stage and lots of development is to be made to make it better product for consumer but the companies are so much eager to make money that without proper testing they launch the half baked product on hefty price tag. VR was almost dead but Apple gave it a fire by launching Vision Pro (this is also a half baked product and the price is just sky high. waste of money). these products are for reviewers because they can get return on money spent by giving review on CZcams. but we as a normal consumer should refrain ourself from wasting money on such useless products
