  • This week the ladies talk about the silent epidemic of teen depression. This is an episode that no parent should miss as the rate of depression in teens is now at an all time high. There are many reasons and many consequences for our kids so the more information parents have, the better. It’s a serious topic for sure, but have no fear, somehow boobies still find their way into the conversation.

I’m a 61 year old guy who recently retired from a major defense contractor. I discovered your podcast because I’m a Jodie Sweetin fan, John Stamos, and Bob Sagat fan. I grew up in Cypress. Your podcasts have been helping me out. I love your openness and honesty. Dr. Celia my heart goes out to you on your recent breakup. My GF of 13 years left at the peak of the pandemic. I never found out why. Music is the only thing that got me through it. I’m so glad you get support from your kids and Jodie! Just wanted to say “hi” and show my support! And to let you know that I am spreading the news about your podcast to my friends with kids!

I’m glad that you’re talking about this issue amongst teens. It’s so sad to see that the world has been so adductive to social media. And teams and all of us are experiencing this because of the pandemic.

I was depressed throughout middle/high school due to low self esteem and bullying. Watching the news never helped but my parents liked to watch it meaning I often seen 3 times a day and not to mention my teacher made us either watch the news or read the newspaper and write about it for homework.

I’m 18 and just graduated from high school on May the 6th. I just want to say thank you both for speaking about this topic. It’s a very hard subject for most to talk about. Teens growing up now have a lot of pressure on them due to social media, social media gives teens the idea of “perfect”. No one is perfect. Not only does social media affect kids but so does the news and peers because most elder people don’t understand the pressure that teens actually have on them due to school and trying to succeed. I can’t really find the words for what I want to say right now but I do want to say thank you both for speaking up about this. Thank you. I love you both!

I work at a hospital and the amount of teens that come in for suicidal ideation and depression is just so sad.

Thank you being so open about this. My 18 year old has developed tics and at the height of pandemic she had so much social anxiety that she couldn't even go to school when schools opened up. And my late 19 year old suffered from depression and self harm and seizures. It is so hard to watch them battle with there emotions! I have learned with my 18 year old to just listen to them and when she has a panic attack to breathe with her to focus her thoughts
