    Geddy said in an interview that this was one of the hardest songs to sing and play at the same time that they've ever written. I believe it, the parts aren't even remotely syncopated. Impressive as always.

      I love Geddy, but to be honest in the post 2000 years he wasn't so much singing as much as just sort of making vocal sounds, you can barely understand the words he is singing here, it's like a long howl/whine

      @@greatunz67 Geddy could still halfway sing and he did have a lot to live up to. Same with Ian Anderson, great singer 'back in the day one' but lost it a long time ago. Still great instrumentalist is Geddy. Two musical geniuses who refused to let age get them. Well as he says here 'they tried to get me.. they'll never..'

    • @jbirzer
      @jbirzer Před 3 měsíci

      @@stephenslade1639 There is a difference. Ian Anderson blew out his voice in the 80s from overuse and probably bad technique. With Geddy, it is just age catching up and trying to reach notes he can't regularly hit live. Normally, he had kept within his limitations, but I don't mind stretching here, since they probably knew they were close to the end anyways.

    It's not particularly obvious, but Geddy singing the chorus and playing that particular bass line at the same time is just crazy. The two parts are so different melodically and rhythmically that you have to be a God-level multitasker to pull it off.

      It truly is a tough song to play and sing
      I can play most of it, but man, that vocal is so hard to add on top

    • @SCZim
      @SCZim Před 4 měsíci

      Geddy mentions that in an interview. The bass and vocals almost clashed.
      The only way he pulls it off is to practice, practice and practice the bass until his hands “memorized” the bass part.
      Then he could practice both the bass and vocals together.

    My favourite song from Clockwork Angels. The lyrics are edgy, drums are thundering, I like the switch in vocal tone in the bridge to the chorus, and this is Alex's best solo in years.
    Actually the whole album rocks a really cool steampunk theme with excellent songs. Way to go out on top!

    There are loads whom take the piss out of the near- worship of these fellas but you cannot argue their belief in what they do , their work ethic , their virtuosity, and the last album - of which how many bands of their longevity can create which doesn’t sound stuck in time or hopelessly apeing current sounds ? “ 😇🏴love from wessexshire

    The drums come out more in this remaster. The one thing i didn’t enjoy about the original master/mix of Clockwork Angels tour cd was that Alex and geddy sound like they are in my living room and Neil is in my backyard.

    Forget the Stones, Zep or even the hallowed Beatles; Given their longevity, volume of work, growth and particularly, this album, Rush can actually make a realistic claim as the GOAT. They never would, but their fans just might.
