      @@lildevil1691 The video is from 1986. The crane was used a few days after the accident to dump the shovelled graphite back into the burning reactor. The crane claw that held the graphite can still be found near Chernobyl and is highly radioactive.

      @@snigelsallad they don't seem in a rush, but they still only had a couple mins max to be out there before radiation effects became a massive hazzard - and of course it was more dramatic in the series, they had to show the urgency and the true danger of the situation at hand. Just showing 90 seconds of walking around shoveling wouldn't put across how much of a deal this moment was. The men in this video, as most, probably didn't fully understand the dangers of radiation. If they knew what we knew now, I'm sure they would be much more hurried

    At 1:15 one of the workers notices the time and gets apprehensive about taking another load of graphite. He decides to call it a few seconds early but informs his comrades. 1:17 another worker acknowledges but decides to take another load of graphite before calling it in.       The debris which they were cleaning was graphite which is filled with cadmium, bor and also parts of uran and xenon. In other words for your little brain ... they were literally cleaning parts of the melted core which exploded and pieces of it were also on the roof & scattered all around.       The liquidators did, fortunately they had adequate protection and it was month after the explosion. Most of them are alive today. It's the firefighters who suffered the worst consequences since they had normal gear and went very close to the core.

      @@Fabio-Galante If the video is real, the reason might be bcz only reporters and cameramen of Soviet TV stations had the privilege of using better video cameras made by Sony Corporation (Soviet TV stations weren't the most cheapskate media organizations in the Eastern Bloc, bcz the central govt were still able to import professional-grade Betacam stuffs). The rest of the population had to settle down with the not-so-good but much more popular VHS tapes and camcorders.

      Film vs digital is my guess.
      film only gets exposed (the white "snow" in the pics) while the robots would have been running digitally.
      Ionizing radiation knocks 1's and 0's around. switching them randomly screws up the coding.

    I think the officer of this squad visited our school in germany some years ago. He was the only one alive i think and he told us about what they did exaxtly etc. I hope hes fine couse whe met him with a lot of respect and togeter we planted a small tree in dedication for Chernobyl in our schoolyard.
