Mamaka kaua o ku'u 'aina/ Band of warriors of my land
'O ke ehu kakahiaka o na 'oiwi o Hawai'i nei/ The new dawn for our people of Hawai'i is upon us
No ku'u lahui e ha'awi pau a i ola mau/ For my nation I give my all so that our legacy lives on
    Verse 2:
Auhea wale 'oukou pu'ali koa o Keawe/ Where are you soldiers of Keawe?
Me ko Kamalalawalu la me Kakuhihewa/ Along with those of Maui and O'ahu
Alu mai pualu mai me ko Manokalanipo/ Unite, join together with those of Kaua'i
Ka'i mai ana me na kama a Kahelelani/ Marching alongside the descendants of Ni'ihau
    Verse 3:
E naue imua e na poki'i a e inu wai 'awa'awa/ Move forward young ones and drink of the bitter waters
    E wiwo'ole a ho'okupa'a a'ohe hope e ho'i mai ai/ Be fearless, steadfast for there is no turning back
A na'i wale no kakou kaukoe mau i ke ala/ Let's press onward straight on the path of victory

I come here to listen to a song about unity and this comment section is full of hate and intolerance from so many. Shame on all of you for acting this way.
The Kanaka Maoli ethnicity has been through a terrible amount of struggle, and that has caused tension and racism to develop towards colonizers and those who have since arrived. And those who have come to the islands do not always fully understand that struggle, and often do not have enough context and personal experience to ever empathize. That either leaves them blissfully ignorant and unintentionally a problem or indifferent to what is going on. This makes Kanaka feel frustrated and displaced, and it is human to realize that that frsutration and anger has gotten the best of us at times. And when the Kanaka act this way to Haole, Haole retaliate, and we all go back and forth. These attacks on other members of the human family create a sense of otherness and seperation that gets in the way of us realizing that we all really are the same creatures; weve just developed different stories and systems to accomplish our political, secular, religious, and spiritual needs. And now that everyone is so ethnically mixed, it is easy for Hapa people of all kinds to feel displaced too. No one likes being in the middle like that. These issues are real and are still a concern, and all sides of this situation ought to behave better and treat one another with more respect.
Even when that is a problem for us, why dont we all try to show more sympathy and support and solidarity? I know that we all wont always agree, but there is so much unavoidable struggle and tension between everyone that does not need to be tere. Im frustrated that my fellow Kanaka Maoli can be so negative and racist to those who could truly be Hawaiian at heart and understand Aloha and Kuleana. It is too easy for us to look at someone's skin and the actions of their ancestors and blame them. You would be surprised how many of them are as ignorant as you are about everything - that is what causes the arguing; only bits of truth being filtered through our imperfections and bias. Sometimes that imperfection and bias is ethnocentrism and intolerance.Even for those who do not fully understand, maybe theyre trying there best. It isnt their fault that Amercan businessmen got greedy and everyone kept it on the hush.
This is why education is important, everyone. Study Hawaiian culture and history to understand how we have viewed the world and how we traditionally understood the secular and spiritual things of this life. Study the Oceanic migration patterns of Austroneasians and see how all Peoples of the Pacific are connected. Study the migration patterns of all humans and see our connection. Study about the life force energy the Chinse called Qi (Chi) and the Hawaiians called Mana and others called many other things.
The Hawaiian way is just one way to understand something all humans are capable of practicing and sharing. No matter where we are from, we have come from bloody warriors, skilled creators, and mystical preists and priestesses. Now we are all in the middle dealing with overpopulation, a stressed planet, and an indifference to one another's strife and difficulty. We are all the same and we are all to blame for this. Shame on all of us, we can be better.

Your words are true, but it may be too late now for Hawaii. Choosing to treat white people with so much racism when they outnumber ethnic Hawaiians by millions AND control Hawaii is a pretty bad strategy for long term survival of Hawaiian culture. Sew the wind, reap the whirlwind.

@@kuuleiarce1348 It's already in the plans for this telescope, and has been for some time and I suspect that it will ultimately be built there, and the people there are OK with it. I have no desire to disrespect nature, especially the spiritual significance of this mountain for anyone. I always think it's better if people can cooperate and work together for the common good. I would not want people to hate astronomy because of the location of a telescope. As for the homeless people, I'm horrified by it, but I don't know the answer to that problem.

Thank you for posting the video and the lyrics. I heard it the first time at the end of the OHA vote video, where the OHA board decided to rescind their former decision. I had no idea what the song lyrics were, but I felt them deep within and cried and cried and cried. Listened to the song three or four more times; cried every time. I wondered who this was, leading the song, and what the song was, and what it was about. So now I know.
Thank you to all who have had a hand in making this possible.

Andrea Mole, Hawaii has always been in great turmoil from the invasions by Tahiti to the bloody conquest of the islands by Kamehameha. Maybe one of the reasons it's in so much turmoil now is that the racism of the locals is coming back in a big karmic circle to haunt them. White people are getting even for all the decades of hushed up racism, lies, and violence from Hawaiians and Asians in the islands. I for one, do not mind the Hawaiians dying out. There were some good ones, but too many of them are just racist thugs of the worst type.
