As far as I know, legally 9 karat gold can't be sold as gold in the US because it has such a low content of pure gold. So it makes sense if you can't find it widely available.

This is correct, 10K is the lowest level of gold purity that can be sold in the U.S. 9K is the lowest allowed in the U.K., France, Canada, Mexico, and Ireland, while 8K is the lowest in Greece.

In the UK we buy 9 or 18ct gold from jewellers so interesting you have 14ct in US
its so common here to have 14k!! i know in other countries 22k is more popular, it's so interesting!
