    The "who is she?" girl is Gain (Real Name Son Ga-in) . She also had a solo career with memorable mvs.
    BEG are a staple of 2ng gen kpop and their songs are still being covered by new groups to this day.
    Legends.

      Thanks! Yeah, she really stood out for me!

    Also kind of on the risqué side but a very catchy song imo is “Paradise Lost” by Ga-in, one of the members solo song

    I love BEG! thankyou for reacting to them :)
    If you decide to do more, you should continue the timeline. Their music just gets better.
    I hope you do Jea's solo project! She gets forgotten in favour of the other members. BEG really push boundaries in their MVs and lyrics. It can be hard to understand without the cultural context, but i love them.

    If you end up revisiting them I recommend Sixth Sense. Also very cinematic.

      Oh, I'm definitely coming back to them! I loved these songs so much!

    Since you love Brown Eyed Girls, check out their song 'Cleansing Cream'. I love everything about this song.

    Kill Bill and Sixth Sense are big songs to react to by Brown Eyed Girls. Also, JeA from this group is very popular just like Gain from here.
    I'd say the next big groups you're coming up on in terms of when they debuted are:
    - Big Bang (biggest boy group for years and helped bring K-pop to western audiences. All members are well known, but G-dragon is extremely well known as a solo artist and was a huge influence on South Korea, even on their fashion.)
    - Wonder Girls (JYP's first girl group. Sunmi and Hyuna, legendary solo artists, come from this group)
    - Kara (DSP girl group with tons of hit songs)
    - Girls' Generation aka SNSD (SM girl group known as The Nation's Girl Group. They have no unknown song or unknown member. They're all names that everyone knows. Their impact on K-pop is huge.)
    If I were to recommend songs for each group:
    Big Bang - Bad Boy, Fantastic Baby, Bang Bang Bang, Sober
    Wonder Girls - Irony (debut song), Tell Me, Nobody
    Kara - Break It (debut song), Mr., Step, Pandora, Damaged Lady, Mamma Mia
    SNSD - Into the New World (debut song, every idol training for a girl group has to learn this song and dance), Girl's Generation, Kissing You, Gee (probably their most popular song), Genie
    I could recommend at least 20 more songs for SNSD and talk much more about the individual members, but I'll stop here for now.

      Thanks for the recommendations! I'm uploading a Big Bang reaction now, but with some of their late 2000's songs first! -- I'll be coming back to them to check out some of their later songs too!
      And yep -- all of these groups are on the list to check out soon! :)

    It still got censored from Korean TV, but one of the reasons why BEG got away with making videos like this at the time is because they were older (as in years alive, not years active as a group). When they debuted, three of them were 25 years old (although the maknae, Ga-In, was 19). For comparison, when SNSD debuted, the members' ages were between 15 and 18. For many girl groups, the "Seven-year Curse" kicks in at about the time when their members' ages are that of the BEG when they started.
    The age thing was uncommon enough that when Narsha was on the show Invincible Youth, her nickname was "Adultdol."

    Girl groups tend to be either cutesy or more mature. Girls Generation (for the most part) is on the cutesy/wholesome side. F(x) falls here too, though they did get a bit more mature later on. On the other side are groups like Brown Eyed Girls, Sistar, 2NE1, and EXID. Some groups were mostly wholesome but would do some "girl crush" concepts where they were more mature/badass

    I had never seen the whole Abracadabra MV, only that dance parts, I'm shocked 😱
    I'm not very familiar with them, I only knew their most famous songs, but I quite liked the others too

      🤣 lol yeah i didn't know how to react to the non-dance parts 😂

    I saw a comment forever ago explaining the gens of kpop to someone that was sort of like, first gen was just discovery and fun, second gen was a bit more serious and companies seeing what works and trying to figure out the perfect "idol group formula", third gen (and I'd argue mid/late second gen) companies actually start investing HEAVY on these groups after they figure out their group formulas (ie having visual, main dancer, rapper specific members). Third gen was mainly experimenting w sounds since a lot of groups in this era started doing group/video concepts, which i think you might have noticed some these changes w the specific videos you chose since I'd consider abracadabra to be a bit more on the late second gen side.

      @jessi.mp4704 Před rokem +1

      I'm excited for when you start to get deeper into late second and early this gens bc you're in for a ride. Third gen in general (especially early 3rd) def had a lot of growing pains for the industry imo, but it birthed a lot of great and iconic groups!

    • @xynxreacts
      @xynxreacts  Před rokem +1

      Yes! Part of the reason I'm trying to do a soft cut-off of 2010 from the current set of 2nd Gen videos I'm reacting to is so I don't get ahead of myself and get spoiled with the upcoming changes! :p Yeah, I could see a clear difference in Abracadabra in multiple aspects... musical style, mv concept/quality, and just... a certain attitude was coming across! It was certainly a unique experience from what I've seen thus far!

    Do you have your first bias? Her name is Ga-in. Her solo career (Bloom, Paradise Lost, Fxxk U) is something you want on your list, but that's probably 3rd gen.
    BEG are one of my all-time favorites. You are about to discover the sexy concept of 2nd Gen girl groups, and I'll comment on that in another reaction. But BEG was not merely sexy, they were provocative in all aspects of the word. They pushed lots of boundaries,. And this is not the only dude they kill in their MVs.
