- This month marks the 55th anniversary of the recording of Lesley Gore's hit "California Nights", in November of 1966. Released in January of 1967, the song reached a peak of #16 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as a peak of #11 on the Cash Box chart. With such exemplary numbers, "California Nights" proved itself to be a commercial comeback for Lesley, whose two previous singles, "Off And Running" and "Treat Me Like A Lady", had only managed to reach #108 and #115, respectively. I had originally posted a music video for this song on May 2nd of this year (on what would have been Lesley's 75th birthday), but I accidentally deleted it. Which sucks because it was nearing 10k views. However, I had wanted to re-do the video for some time, since my editing skills have improved quite a bit over the past six months. So hopefully you guys love this new rendition as much as I do. But most importantly, I hope you love this SONG as much as I do. It's one of my all-time favorites. Enjoy, and be sure to subscribe!

I toured w Leslie in 1978. We played this song. Leslie was the coolest person. An incredible singer...so kind and funny. Gone too soon.
hi Rick
I loved Leslie when I was years old. After seeing this Batman episode with my Dad in '67 I think. Dad and I had a deal.. I watched Rat patrol with him... he would watch Batman... miss those days and the music
That's so awesome!! I bet you have so many stories.
Batman is one of my favorite shows. Having Leslie Gore sing this was fantastic.
This is my favorite song by Lesley.
Mine, too.
I met her at Zig Zag Record Store on Avenue U, Brooklyn, NY I want to say early 2000's when she cut a CD of her popular songs & hits. I bought her CD and she autographed it for me. She was very friendly, kind warm and gracious. What a shame she died so young. RIP.
She was very talented and beautiful.
Such a lovely voice and beautiful woman
Lesley gore's calif nights are still fresh in my memorizing from 1967.........!
Happy Heavenly Birthday Lesley Gore “ California Nights”🙏🙏✝️🎉🎉
Not only a sublime vocalist, but possibly the most beautiful lady I've ever seen, with some of the best songs ever. Love at first listen.
" My Old Crowd". Beautiful and truly heartbreaking.
Most beautiful you've ever seen? You don't get out much, do you?
Looks like you've seen few ladies yet. Leslie Nielsen is way more attractive imho
She’s pretty but she don’t like the D so if you’re a dude who likes chicks, waste of time.
She was cute as hell...
Classic Batman episode ! The Catwoman's " kittens " get serenaded by Lesley Gore . Those days were so much fun . Bring back the mini skirt !! Sure the world had its problems but not like the crap today . Thanks for a breath of fresh air .
I just saw this episode on TV this evening. Brings back memories of seeing it when I was a kid.
One of the kittens serenaded, one on the far left, was George Sawaya, who was in "Batman: The Movie", released in the summer of 1966.
What a beautiful song from a beautiful lady
Leslie was a great singer. Her voice was magic!
Always will be missed and respected.
To quote Smoky Robinson " I second that emotion"
i adore leslie her vocals are unbeatable, miss her so much.
My big sister had all her records. I grew up as a little guy listening to this, along with Petula Clark and many others. But Lesley got the most play at the house, I think.
One of my favorite songs from her
Miss Lesley a lot. This "come back" single sent her back to the charts where she belonged. Beautifully produced and her vocal styling at it's best. I still have the single and scored a picture jacket with it! Her follow up was terrific also. Summer and Sandy. Both overlooked masterpieces.
Unfortunately for Leslie and many other pop singers were pushed aside with the British Invasion...Think Nirvana when there was nothing but a bunch of hair bands....Music changes and so does taste
Thankfully good music never dies and songs like this one r the way ahead to its time “You Dont Own Me” will never fade away
I had forgotten about " Sandy"! My best friend could play that on guitar and I was impressed
Same, as I miss Lesley Gore everyday. Fantastic singer.
Lesley could sing jazz, also, which was on her demo records, in the early 1960s.
Pretty red hair, pretty light blue eyes.
Mature at a young age, at 15 or 16, to begin a singing career. Her parents must have been great folks, that she was secure in herself and mature, being so young.
Lesley died too young. R.I.P.
She was so pretty and talented ❤❤❤
Such a fun song! Love the outrageous pop qualities, especially the backup vocals "weeeooo weeeooo". In my Top Ten Pop list.
Yeah, the "weeooo weeooo" really makes it kicky!
Geez she was great 👍
She fantastic and she has style
She was adorable!❤❤
Love this song, the music & her voice, she was so pretty.
Lesley was so cute as Pussycat on Batman with her outstanding performances. It would have been smart to keep her as Catwoman's apprentice in future episodes. So sad she not with us anymore. Glad she was discovered at the perrfect time.
You had to use the pun.
I wanted this song back in the day, but the single was sold out at Newberry's. Then just this afternoon, it came up on the local classic hits station.
By far my favorite Lesley Gore song. I think I was 9--10 watching Batman! What a time to be alive and young!!!!
her body bumping to the rhythm with a mind of its own
Everyone in my grade loves Harry styles or Billie Eilish but I lover her ❤
Billie Eilish is great, Styles is the Fabian of is generation, but mega pr dollars are spent making out he’s some sorta groundbreaking genius. Tepid. Lesley is godlike
Yeah same here! I do love Billie Eilish, though! I think she's the 21st century Lesley Gore.
@@will2741 Styles doesn't hold a candle to Fabian. Then again I'm in agreement with Bob Seger, "Today's music an't got the same soul". Today's music to me feels like a soulless zombie.
That's because you know real talent Harry has talent but Billie Eyelash she always sounds she just woke up with the worst hangover I know I'm from a different generation(the sixties)but I just don't get her
@vintageuploads413 that's an insult to Lesley Gore
The first time I saw her MANY years ago I was fascinated with everything about her. I remember also thinking there was a tiny hint of masculinity there. A few years later, I learned she was gay and had a girlfriend with whom she ended up sharing the last 35 years of her life.
She made huge waves in the American society of the 50’s (?) just by singing “You don’t own me”. I find myself sad thinking how difficult it most have been to pretend being what you were not just so that they would let go about your art and your music. She was very smart, well educated, made good life choices, a pretty good example to girls in those days and surely a fantastic singer. I thank her for that ❤❤❤❤
One of her best; written, BTW, by Marvin Hamlich
When The Stars Come Out..Stop!... And Count Them In The Sky..That was Leslies little message for this Summer Of Love 1967..And she nailed it..Leslie Gore was far out..She wasn't going to be left by the wayside like most of the other artists that were from the early 60s.. They couldn't make that next step..As the cooler, psychedelic music started coming around with The Beatles, and The Jefferson Airplane, and Incents and Peppermints and Green Tamborine stuff..She comes out with a killer Psychedelic Mindblower..I was only 10 in 1967 and she was only like 18... But I remember this song, and the Batman show, and her on TV alot in the 60s..But it didn't matter anyway..Leslies' music was, and still is timeless...All of it..God Bless you Leslie
Gore....frankny64yroldwhitekid rockfan
California used to be wonderful 😮😢
The coolest, most awesome song I have never heard before this, right now... today... Awesome.. TY. And she was so pretty.
The Batman series shined with a song by Leslie Gore, that's what makes these TV shows great
So loved and so missed.
At 18...an unknown with a #1 hit. 18 hit songs in the next 2 years
Best song ever
She was one most beautiful red head women in showbusiness.....i guess many men had a crush on them, but ahe was especially a versatile singer...thanks mister quincy jones
I recall 1967......and this lady.
She was a talent.
Lesley and Chad & Jeremy are my favorite musical guests on "Batman"!
Absolutely Beautiful ❤️
She was a fixture on top-40 radio in the 1960s. So many of us were singing her songs. A great talent who left us much too soon.
Love her hair style here. It really suits her
Who would be better to walk hand in hand than the always classy Ms Gore.
Lesley the best ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ my favorite song is sunshine lollipops and the rainbow 🌈
Thank you for this edit that brings us "California Nights" in its beautiful entirety. The Batman episode where this song was originally presented did an absolute hatchet job on California Nights, butchering it down to just the first verse and maybe the last thirty seconds of the song, which definitely left a lot of Lesley Gore fans livid at the time. Unfortunately, a lot of TV shows at the time did the same thing due to time constraints, leaving classic tunes either disjointed or incomplete.
Her best song, changes key ,lots of minors , piano, great song.
When California was cool.
Loved Her. Beautiful Woman and great Singer. Always a fan.
I Love You Lesley Gore ❤️
Tiffania, I cannot blame you at all. Her singing was mesmerizing. She was very dreamy.
@@valuecalc I totally agree with you
By The Way
She's My Icon❤️
@@tiffaniaporchiazzo1791, I totally understand it. Yes! Loving her is so easy. This song is very romantic. So sadly, this lovely girl is no longer around but in spirit.
@@valuecalc I'm So Sorry
I miss her so much
So anyway
I hate to ask you this
Where are you from?
@@tiffaniaporchiazzo1791, her dying was very tragic.
I remember that Batman episode
It was a great episode!
@@vintageuploads413 Indeed it was. Nobody gets more applause than Catwoman.
I'm watching it now... It's great...
Part 1 I didn't like when Robin assaulted Batman.
I certainly recall miss gore's musical talent
From the 1960s. She was in a class all by
Her self.
One of the first 45s I bought as a teenager.
Loved Lesley
My youth ❤
Good memories
Pretty and nicely built god bless her
Love this episode of Batman
I miss her.
I was a Batman series superfan, but I don't remember this! I liked that song and would have loved it on my FAVORITE tv show!
♥ Lesley G!
Haircut reminds me of Kennedy era.
love her everything about her
I love your videos keep up the great work you are awesome.
Today July 7, 2023
Didn't know much of beautiful Leslie until now. More!
Having popular singers show up on Batman always seemed really trippy. It would be like Slipknot breaking into a song on NCIS. Actually, maybe that would work.
Sweet
This is music ....only a memory.
That was then ..this is now 2024. She's gone.
LOVED her so much....and Mercury Records mishandled her after this release, they should have been more aggressive in pushing her follow up singles and certainly missed the target by not striking when the iron was hot - there's no reason why some of her records that came out after this couldn't have fared better than they did - and then Mercury dropped her, and she went over to Crewe Records which, to me, was not a strategic career move -
The executives at Mercury Records were huge crooks, miss manage Leslie's music 🎶 stardom. She didn't get paid anything till 1989. Could of been a huge star.
I completely agree. "Summer And Sandy," her follow-up was a great song and should have been a top ten hit.
Right after she scored her first hit record (It's My Party), SHE should have hired: (a) an accountant (b) a music attorney (c) a publicist ON HER OWN and separate from the record company. After her 1st hit SHE was "holding the cards" the prefect time to deal with Mercury then (she could have paid them based on a percentage of what she made in income). If she had had a team in place like this, they wouldn't have been able to rip her off@@paulaaron9419
There was a 1960s review Tour 1992 .Leslie stole the Show..Chubby Checker.Lou Christy. Jan & Dean..several others..
❤
Hugely under, rated. Did the Wrecking Crew have a part in the instrumentals?
Nice kitty kitty ...,.❤
I remember her in "the Shinning"
This was my favorite episode of the Batman tv show...
Holy cross promotion
Got any Shindig, Hullabalou, Or Where The Action Is clips?
sad she jumped ship to play for the other team she was sooooo cute
The Batman episodes with Chad and Jeremy and Leslie Gore were both Catwoman episodes.
THE AMERICAN WOMAN
What a strange guest appearance. I remember laughing.
Great job cuz, wish we could of met :/
What a cute little pixie she was way back then! RIP Lesley!
5 foot zero ❤
A typical american beauty
Batman was "High Camp" and the highest camp show ever on TV. There was a scene were Robin would kiss Lesley Gore. The producer came in when they were filming it and cancelled the scene. I don't know why. Maybe because Robin was gay and obviously was not 18 yet. Think about it, Batman or Bruce Wayne was a handsome billionaire, Why wasn't he married?
Nothing better then having cat woman
THE AMERICA SPIRIT OF THE ONEST AND GOOD PEOPLE THE LIFE BELT FOR OPPRESED AND ONEST WORKER PRIMO LEVI
Lesley and Robin would have made a cute couple
Robin turned into an octopus 🐙 after catatafurnic scratch from Pussycat.
Love this song and the only one that can sing ,2nd to Lesley is or I imagine so, Selena...
I thought I'd seen every Batman. But if Catwoman wasn't Julie Newmar I may have passed.😊
The break at 2:15...
The first 48 seconds look like there from the old Batman tv show.
I wish her persnal life was as good as her singin voice,,, but she passed in summer of 2015
What was the character she played in this Batman?
Pussycat
I'd buy that for a dollar.
Será que passava dragon ball z lá? Kkkk
Catwoman
What a......BEAUTIFUL WOMAN.
SWEET TEARS OF LOVING ADMIRATION.....
I have always liked Leslie, and the tune has a good melody, but I can't think of a worse place than California!
For awhile Batman was popular was popular with people who were not children, Many famous show business people liked to appear on the show even if they were not a member of the cast. Lesley gore showed up at the studio one morning, they couldn't find anything for her to do, they just had her act like a member of Cat Woman's gang. They put her in a cat costume and she lip synced to one of her songs.
