- As a big fan of trackers it was inevitable that I'd end up sucked into the world of the Dirtywave M8. I've been trying it out (headless) for the past few weeks, and have been so taken by it that I thought it was worth sharing my thoughts and first impressions... how it compares to LSDJ, what the fuss is about, and some chat about the Polyend Tracker as well.
If you want to see the basic workflow, rather than listen to me talk... watch this instead: • Dirtywave M8 Tutorial ...
If you want to just hear some music made on the M8, here's my first track: • Dirtywave M8 First Track
I upload my Dirtywave M8 song bundles to Patreon, so you can load them up on your own device and see how I write my tracks - complete with all the instruments etc that I've used, so if you're into that kind of thing check it out here - / allmyfriendsaresynths
If you want to find out more, get answers to questions, or try find an open pre-order slot, check out the Discord: / discord

Edit: Note I originally said there was HDMI output on the Dirtywave M8. That was a foolish error. You can still get a video display out from the M8 via USB, but it's not HDMI. Sorry!

My DIY tape label, Cow Tongue Taco Records: cowtonguetacorecords.bandcamp... I post all of the music I make, including WAV stems; sample packs; Dirtywave M8 song bundles; collections of video textures; early access to videos; and a whole pile of other stuff on Patreon. I know I know, I hate doing this as well, but if you like what I do and want to get more of it, while also helping me offset some of my ludicrous gear purchases, this is the best place to do it:

If you're in the market for new gear, my favourite place to find new and interesting synthesizers and other electronic music gear is Signal Sounds. They are based in Glasgow, but ship all over the place and often have stuff nobody else does. Find them at www.signalsounds.com/
If you're in the US and shop at Perfect Circuit, you can click through to see what they have in stock just now through my custom link. I get a small commission for any purchases made, which keeps me stocked up with whisky and beard oil. link.perfectcircuit.com/t/v1/...

Thanks for watching!
M8 community is awesome indeed, so many friendly talented and helpful people
Goddamn. I swear I saw an HDMI port. I must have imagined it. That's it. I'm sending mine back. Thanks for picking up on that!
I've edited it to remove my foolishness. Let's never speak of this again.
new sub here! thanks for the content and the music my dude
Thanks for dropping by and saying hello!
Spread the worddddd 👌😊
What you think about polyend vs m8?
Ha that's a big question. Once I get my hardware M8 I'll do a comparison video, but TL;DR the M8 is more powerful and portable, but the Tracker has a more interesting live mode and feels like a better central brain for MIDI sequencing.
@@StephenMcLeod i bought one! Then i learn about m8 ! I have more 20 days to send my back to the shop! I feel polyend like a non finish product. But the pads are Cool to sequence hip-hop lofi. I dont know:))
@@canconeteirodopunk You could try out the M8 headless version if you're unsure, to see if you like the workflow. It requires a Teensy board, but they are cheap, and relatively easy to set up.
@@canconeteirodopunk Also the M8 is currently out of stock - more orders will open up in a few months, so factor that in.
@@StephenMcLeod thks
What'd he say?
Who is he
Akai have lost me, the force is rubbish so is their current line of MPCs, I’m loving trackers
Strong words! I like the Force, but mostly because it's different to the other MPCs. I run an old MPC2500 instead for that duty. Glad you love the Trackers though. It's a whole other world!
@@StephenMcLeod yeah they are strong words. I liked akai before coloured touch screen. The workflow was better for me
