- I just wanted to share one of my many axe builds.
This video shows the restoration process that I go through to take old rusty or used axes to a usable tool again.
Feel free to ask any questions in the comments!
Cheers, Oliver
Great to see you started sharing your talent and knowledge with the whole world! 😊✨
Thank you so much!
Cool project ! I especially like the contrast between the polished part of the head and the part left with the patina. Restoring is not about erasing the past, but about extending it into the future !
Thanks man, really appreciate it!
Nice work 👍
The handle is beautiful
Thanks a bunch, really appreciate it!
Great job!
Cheers!
I make all of my straight hammer and mallet handles out of 1x2 hickory, and I've done a lot of them. Frankly, I'm mad at myself for not thinking to add contrasting wood to make a bigger palm swell. Thank you sir, I'm adding that trick to my tool box.
My pleasure!
Really great to see your process, super interesting watch thanks for uploading!
Thank you! Cheers Tom!
Great job! Very unique, love the contrasting wood and the simple jig you came up with for your router.
Glad you like it!
Nicely done. I just made my first axe handle last night. Great inspiration.
Oh talking to the camera gets easier. Hope to see more videos.
Happy to hear. Hope your first handle turned out great!
There will be more videos coming up, most likely at a biweekly rate
@ArosAxes It actually did turn out really nice. I look forward to seeing more of your content. If you are inclined, you can check out how my handle turned out on my channel.
Have a great day.
Splendid as always to see u in action my friend 🎉🎉
Thank you, it's fun to share what I've been doing for years now!
Nice work👍👍🪓
Thanks man!
i can note that the wood grain is not on the right side. That made the handle fragile when hitting on the log.
I would disagree, the grain orientation at the top if close to parallel to the direction of the edge. Although it's not the absolute perfect orientation it is pretty close. Furthermore I would argue that grain runout is a bigger cause of failure than orientation. Regardless of those factors, an axe this size will never see heavy enough use to really cause any concerns for failure with any half decent handle.
AWESOME JOB! I COULD DO WITHOUT THE MUSIC.
Thanks man!
