Travel Journal: Yangon 2019

  • My second trip of 2019 was to Yangon, Myanmar, a city and a country I never expected to visit, but am so glad I did. As someone who is a sucker for taking pictures of textures, doors and padlocks, Yangon was a smorgasbord of all three that I felt like a glutton greedily devouring my favourite dishes with every turn of the corner. With its clash or architectures painted in unashamedly loud, vivid hues, Yangon, to me, felt like a secret insta-worthy location the influencers have yet to discover, and I didn’t mind that at all.
    I am pretty sure I did a pretty bad job at shortlisting the pictures for my travel journal, but somehow I managed to shove them all into two Traveler’s Notebook inserts. I’m continuing with the cover theme from my previous travel journal (NKxChiangMai which I shared a whopping five months ago! • Travel Journal: Chiang... ) and keeping the layout neat and tidy. So far I’m not tired of it yet and can’t wait to try it out for my next batch of travel journals.
    I hope you enjoy the flipthrough of my trip to Yangon, and will make your way there one day too if you haven’t already. Don’t forget to give me a follow and thumbs up if you enjoyed this (and even if you didn’t 😆). Thank you for watching!

      Thank you! I do hope to be able to document how I do my travel journal layouts but I tend to do them mise en place so that could get a bit boring 😅 Perhaps one day when I have an entire day and good daylight just to travel journal prep I’ll be able to record it!

    Hi Nadiah, as a long time fan of TNC setups (and travel) I am so happy to find your beautiful and inspiring channel and IG. 😀You use your layouts and blank spaces so effectively in this travel journal but I also enjoy seeing the contrast of your well filled out pages as well. You have a new inspired subscriber here!☺ Thank you so much for sharing. x Louise

      Thank you so much for subscribing! It's great to know that there are a few of you out there who enjoy my style of travel journaling 😊 I have to admit that my first proper Travel Journal in the TN had me needing to fill every single inch of space and it took effort and reminding from my own self that it's ok to leave a bit of space sometimes 😅 I should record a CZcams version of those journals one day as they were a massive 6 volumes!

    Wow!! What a stunning journal!! Thank you for sharing!
    I love your attention to detail... like the vellum tip-in making the photos line up perfectly at 2:07.
    Do you use some kind of stamp mat to keep your stamping so clean despite the bulky pages?

    • @nadiahkimie
      @nadiahkimie  Před měsícem

      Thank you so much for watching! I’m a sucker for making things line up perfectly 😂. I don’t use a stamp mat, but I do use a thin acrylic sheet underneath when things get bulky (because that is what I have lying around). I find that acrylic sheets are sturdier, but anything that is thin and won’t bend to the page underneath should work well too.

      Thank you so much! I believe I used the Pilot Custom Heritage 912 FA for the front page, and on the cover I used a dip pen with a flex nib, although I am not sure of the make!

      Thank you so much for watching my video. I hope it brought back some great memories for you! Yangon was truly inspiring for me. I actually print my photos via photobook.com as I don’t like glossy photos and most of those portable photo printers only print on glossy. The higher end photo printers are a bit out of my budget range for now 😄

    Amazing layouts. Can I ask how you stick your photos? Do you use glues or double tape?
    And how many pictures do you usally print for one trip? Thanks in advance

    • @nadiahkimie
      @nadiahkimie  Před rokem

      Of course! I use acid-free invisible mount tapes (whenever I can find them), but when I run out I’ll probably use double sided tape so that the photo prints will remain dry.
      As for the number of pictures… gosh! I never know! I just print all the pictures I like and hope my travel journals won’t get too fat 😅 But I do look through each picture to decide which ones I want in what size print but I don’t decide the quantity beforehand.

    • @nadiahkimie
      @nadiahkimie  Před rokem

      I send my pictures to get printed on photobook.com as they’re one of the few places that print on matte photo paper. I am not a big fan of glossy photos, mainly because glossy photos used to stick together way back then especially in the heat and humidity here in Malaysia. I don’t know if they still do now but I just love matte prints.

    • @nadiahkimie
      @nadiahkimie  Před rokem +1

      Thank you! Do you mean the airline/luggage tags? Some I get from redbubble.com, but shipping to Malaysia has really gone up, so I have resorted to getting them from freepik.com. The latter ones are free, but you do need to edit them to what you want, and attribute, so I write a little attribution on the inside of my journal cover 😊
