When I was in college, a girl I was sweet on invited me to her church and they sang this. I almost converted to Christianity right there on the spot. Took a few more years.

How fantastic that these recordings exist. I was lucky to see Roy Acuff at the Opry in 1989. On the same show were Hank Snow, Roy Clark, Skeeter Davis and many more.
Hank knew he wasn’t long for this world however he did see the light of salvation and it’s evident in this song. At 29 in the backseat of a Cadillac (baby blue) Hanks way of life caught up to him. I believe he was put here for a reason to influence country music and give us generations of a multi talented family but when “he saw the light.” He knew it was time to go. One can only imagine what was going through Hanks mind in that drive and what did Hank say when he met his lord and savior? The Opry needs to fix this man’s reputation there and let him RIP. Hank was a troubled man even after death.
Back then, we were taught respect, not only for others but for ourselves also. No, we didn't have computers, air conditioning, heat pumps, or even indoor plumbing. But I believe we had a better life then, than we do now. I miss the old days in a younger country, and as I get older, I miss them more.

Dad listen to this guy and I just thought he was a relic from 100 years ago.... I didn't know that I was listening to a pioneer. Later as I learned to play rock and roll...I turned back and learned about 20 of his songs. This song was one of my favorites as were many others. I didn't realize his talent or impact until I was older.... He had over 50 top ten songs in his 6 year span, he got his recording contract at 23 and died when he was only 29 years old. Seems the good do die young. I think my dad liked the fact that I finally found Hank on the guitar. Great song and I don't do gospel. I will if it is blues or southern gospel
I'm 39 yrs old and I grew up listening to Hank Williams on the stereo each and every night during my childhood years as my mother would play these beautiful songs while she was cooking dinner and I remember the joy this music brought into my family over the years, so I must give a big thank you to the Williams family for their faithfulness to the Lord and for keeping the Spirit of hope alive in me and my family. First off, Hank's the fucking best. Period. Whether you were a blues, folk or country artist in this period, you likely drew from religion, and it's one of the reasons why just about every genre was more connected than people think these days. I'm not a religious person, but I find it admirable that the artists in the most troubled of situations all found common ground from their religious faith--whether they were adamant in practicing it on a regular basis or not. Plus it's just a damn great song.
