Uppsala

Uppsala is a university town in northern Sweden. I went there in 1981 and something/nothing happened.
He sat on the sofa
She said I’ll teach you the chords

He'd smoked what she offered
His fingers were numb
And kept going wrong
In Uppsala
A quiet room at the party she said
She wanted to practice her English
They drank and laughed
And he almost relaxed
In Uppsala
He'd never eaten, rye bread and
Pickled gherkin before.
He'd never drunk that much,
And woken on a kitchen floor.

She stumbled half dressed
Holding an egg cup
She looked pretty rough
Without her make up
Carrying her contact lenses
She never got what she wanted
From the English boy all locked inside
Nervous naïve and terrified
Two days later he said goodbye
To Uppsala
