    Sup guys. I was going through memory lane on my hard drive and found this. I wanted to show you all how I practice over a song before I record it for a drum cover.
    When I learn a new song, I first listen to the track over and over and over again on my Iphone to memorize almost every drum beat.
    Then, when the beats are all memorized, I then play the beats on my double bass set! In this video, from my head, I'm playing along to a track called "Chess With The Abyss" by Dimmu Borgir from their album, Abrahadabra.
    As you can see in the video, I didn't have my earbuds on (Please don't play drums without earbuds lol) or my DAW running on my macbook so what you're hearing is coming straight from the GoPro.
    I added some Nick Barker licks here and there and played faster to also work on my double bass single strokes for speed. It was approximately around 245-250 BPM My legs felt like jelly after this hahaha!
    Thank you all for watching!

    Idk how you're not drumming with the legends. Raw, clean, fucking impressive man. I feel like one good performance in the right spot will get you noticed. The double bass at 2:00 .... jealous. Jesus

    How can you use your legs that fast and how does it feel after a long session with fast double bass?

    • @APT0491
      @APT0491  Před 3 lety +16

      Years of practice! I'm using heel up and ankle motions on both feet!
      After working on my double bass techniques or playing that fast for a couple of hours, It feels very tiring hahaha!
      I'm trying to reach those speeds and power without using drum triggers or using drum samples.

    • @quinnm.3588
      @quinnm.3588 Před 3 lety +3

      @@APT0491 When you say years of practice, do you just consistently learn new songs and naturally improve, or do you have specific practice routines to increase your double bass speed?

    • @APT0491
      @APT0491  Před 3 lety +4

      @@quinnm.3588 It's both but mostly consistently learning new songs and naturally improve! When I practice the double bass, I'll use my electric set or just the kick pad and set up a metronome up to near the fastest BPM (220 bpm for example) I can go and work on each foot by just tapping in 16th notes on a 4/4 scale.
