Making Victorian Ballet Flats - Simple Shoemaking

- Since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to make my own shoes. I even made a pair of ballet toe shoes out of duct tape one time. But as an adult, no one makes shoes, right? Wrong. After finding out, a year or two ago, that there are lots of people out there making shoes in their living rooms, I decided it was time to give it a go. I finished my first pair of shoes in early 2021, and have been wanting to give it another try since then. Well, it’s time. This pair of shoes will be much more approachable than my first pair, and is perfect for any of you out there interested in making your own shoes, but who have never done it before. Let’s jump right in!

Hey everybody! What projects are you working on? I'd love to hear! 💕
I'm going all out!..... Reebok Pumps .... or 90's Bball boots..... I'm 20+ years out of practice.... but 3d printing is mackling it possible... i got vids 2 that may help you whith a few things.
I do not need a new hobby. I do not need a new hobby. I do not...but it's so pretty! 😍
Haha exactly how I felt when I was first attracted to shoemaking! 🤪😆
Just wow!!! Best boots ever!!! I wish I had the time and money to do the same😅❤️ thank you so much! Beautiful video 😁🥰
Beautiful shoes, well done for making them yourself, and thanks for the inspiration.
The fact that you used cream of wheat in making your first pair of shoes is both resourceful and delightful!
They turned out great. Very enjoyable and informative. Thank you.
Thank you!! Your video series helped me a lot during my first pair of shoes, so thank YOU ☺️
Have you shown your shoes to a cobbler?!! They would be so impressed! Ty for sharing. I too prefer a lower volume on the background music or only during a few shots of showing off some details as you start or finish each step😊. New Subscriber👋🏼
Actually Cobblers don't make shoes they really only fix shoes hence the whole cobbled together thing. In my humble opinion it's the 'Pattern Cutters' that actually design the shoes.
As an experienced pattern cutter...
I think these are pretty good.
I have the impression that she's learnt this from a textbook? and in truth I can see some of the textbook methods. that makes it a little more impressive honestly. I did have access to numerous textbooks for shoe making, however I guess I did have the luxury teachers that we're experienced and honestly just good teachers. So yeah I skipped all the textbooks.... I think I only would have looked through them once or twice. So extra points for deciphering the 'ancient tome' I found them more confusing than anything else. :)
They're beautiful!
Thank you! 🥰
Great video. Curious where you got your flat bottom lasts? I can't find any. They all seem to be pump lasts. Love the video and instructions. great job.
Good question! I got mine from Sorrell Notions and Findings. They are sold in ladies sizes, but there is nothing inherently feminine about them. I would suggest ordering a size and a half larger for men's sizes. The great thing about Lisa Sorrell's lasts is that she offers many different widths, and has PDF "last bottom papers" to test the shape of the last to your foot tracing before ordering.
Well done. Thats awesome and its so good to raise awareness about shoemaking. I was judging wondering if the screen is supposed to go in and out or if that was just me? Thankyou xx
Thank you! Yes, it’s a zoom-in every so often. 🙂 Do you find it distracting?
I've seen where people make body forms by wearing a long cotton t shirt over their undergarments, having someone wrap them in multiple layers of duct tape, which is then cut off, stuffed with foam, resealed and mounted on a stick. I wonder if this process could be used to make lasts?
Omg what book are you reading from??
I want to make a pair for my fiancee for our wedding
I don't do leather though so what should I use
@@tristanhale460 What are your reasons for avoiding leather- are you vegan, or are you just inexperienced working with it? If the former reason, I'm sure there are modern day man-made substitutes for the parts of the shoe that would normally need to be leather (stiffeners, insole and outsole, etc) but I don't know a lot about those!
