  • As featured in Artists and Illustrators Magazine, June 2021, Norman Long shows how to use more paint to create rich impasto surfaces in your paintings. Starting with using leftover paint to create textured oil grounds, he then develops a plain air painting in a thick impasto style.

Very interesting, loved the inclusion of all your processes and showing of all 4 versions, Of coarse they were all acceptable but my personal appreciation was for the final painting, felt warm and calm, a nice day to remember.
    Thanks for sharing.

That's a lot of paint! Did you use cheaper brands when you were learning? Would you recommend cheaper paints specifically for learning thick application with palette knife?

What a beautiful piece of work! Thank you for sharing. When you reworked it back in the studio, did you use brushes? Or was it palette knife all the way?

Thank you for the info. Does the oil primed board have linen adhered to it first? What kind of board is it?
