Some ideas about this famous solo and vibrato, one of the keys features for the bass player in the orchestra I believe. I must admit my contact point was a bit messy... cheers

In Hungary, we have been taught to have "THE position" at all times, expanding or retracting it as we process through the fingerboard, because our lives depend on it. I feel we really need to implement these kind of teachings into our studies, experiment with different stuff because a lot of bassist suffers from the oh so strict ways of the Montag school. This is genius, definitely gonna try it.

Hi Daniel, thanks for watching. I go further into the “block position” in my video on the famous Kreutzer-Simandl etude. There you can find pictures of the hand shape recommended by prof. Montag. It has its merits of course, but in 2023 we should dare trying new ways considering the modern thin strings compared to the thick ones used back then. Take a look on a contemporary great cellist István Várdai who extends and compress his LH position all the times and has an exquisite vibrato in my opinion. Well, cello is not bass, but it could be strange for the bass being the only string instrument with lack of vibrato and block rigid positions I believe.
      Cheers

@@max.domante Thank you for your in-depth explanation, I will take a look at the video mentioned above. I came from playing cello so I know that some methods could work on bass and some could not, however it is so much more of a clean slate to me (playing bass) that at some point, it was rather easy to apply cello technique on bass directly than use that on cello.
