  • I’ve seen many Law Enforcement trade in pistols over the years, especially Glocks. I thought about getting a Glock 17 Gen 2 in 9mm last year when AIM surplus had them but just didnt get one. AIM doesn’t have the 9mm gen 2s in stock anymore so that prompted me to see if i could find one elsewehere. Well, I found Sportsmans Guide had the them in stock so I finally got one. In this video, I show you what the LE Trade In Glock looks like as well as give you a range test.
History: In 1980, Gaston Glock first designed a polymer framed pistol for Austrian military and police. The Glock 17 entered Austrian military and police service as the P80 in 1982. Since then, Glocks have become one of the most popular handguns. The Glock 17 Generation 2 was introduced in 1988 and was phased out by 1997 with the arrival of the new Gen 3.

I bought my Gen 2 G17 in 1990 on my 21st birthday. 4 years later it was stolen when my house was broken into. Fast forward 26 years and I get a call from the sheriffs office I did the police report through. It was recovered! Now mind you, I’m in CA and it was recovered in WY. Glad to say I got it back. Talk about “if that pistol could talk,”

@@2ndAmmendmentAmerican It wasn’t in bad shape. Still had the tritium sights and extended slide stop on it. The slide was a bit worn and the barrel was in rough shape. I put some new tritiums on it, had the slide resurfaced and an optics pocket milled. Dropped a new barrel in it and it shoots like a dream.

I bought my Gen 2, Glock 17 back in 1989 (introduced in 1988). I used it in competition shooting in the 90s. I retired the pistol after firing ~105,000 rounds. Original barrel. Springs replaced 3X. In all that time, I only had 2 malfunctions. I remember them well. Shooting a competition in Sacramento in 1990, using range reloads. Both malf's were failures to feed from the same box of reloads. Most of the ammo it shot was my reloads (115gr Winchester HP) or Fiocchi 115gr flat nose FMJ. 🤠

I bought one of these when I was in the police academy in ‘97. I sold it in ‘04 and have regretted that choice for years. I definitely need to get one of these trade ins.

Gen 2 glocks are the highest quality. Best finish and internals were all milled out and not injection molded. Normally the triggers are so worn in that they are smooth AF.
Great buy. That's a pistol you can trust.

You COULD make it a project gun for some custom stippling to “camouflage” any serious scratches 👍🏻

I just got a police trade in, but as further inspection. It looked tortured tested. I refused the transfer &
    Just decided to buy a
New gen5. I realized recently that for the same price I could have gotten a new pistol with3 mags.
Always be in the future with guns.
This is the first time ever refusing a pistol.
    I don’t know the process,other than contacting the place I purchased it. It’s been a couple days….
    They haven’t responded yet.
    Enjoy the gen2.

    😅
    Yes, welcome to life.
Used or brand new you can’t go away with that.
So your $500 Glock is more like $575 after all the fees.
I don’t think people buy Gen 2 Police Trade to save money, they do it because of history of the brand, for the collection.
