  • Wendy Murdoch demonstrates how to permanently twist your stirrup leathers so that you no longer experience ankle pain in your western saddle. This combined with Stirrup Shims (see another video on this Channel) can resolve a majority of Western rider's knee and foot pain!

Good info & well taught. A lot of overkill on mask & gloves, both fixed by social distance & hand washing before & after.

Hi Dave, given that I was about to have surgery in a few days from that filming, I was taking all precautions! Glad you like the video

I can't help but wonder why the saddles don't come from the maker / factory with this twist ?

Thank you! I saw the other video but it wasn’t with a blevin, much clearer now. Btw are there any pros or cons to this method as opposed to stirrup turners or swivels and such?

This way is free - that's cheaper than turners or swivels. :) Some leather needs to be worked into place if it is really stiff but no harm in trying!

Besides Wendy's reason (free), remember that turners can add a couple inches to the length of your leathers/venders. Depending on your situation, that can be a benefit or a downside. If your leathers are already long, with a lot of "end" that has to be folded up somewhere, you might not want any more length to have to deal with. OTOH, if you have a synthetic saddle, they frequently don't come with Blevins buckles and synthetics can't be molded like leather, so you may have to use turners.
