i have been there three times..i consider it close to a holy place.
A long time ago, a young man, on his honeymoon, drove from one B&B to the next with his bride, passing through Gettysburg, Valley Forge, ( they gave you a CASSETTE TAPE for the auto tour!) and places in Maryland wher ethere were markers set up for each regimental. There is an old picture, somewhere, of that young man standing next to the marker that honored the regimental that came from where he grew up.
He also stood next to the one where his adopted hometown had their marker. He thanked them both, and got in the car and moved on with his bride towards their next spot in MAryland, wandered to Virginia, and then back again.
He's old now, doesn't have that car anymore, doesn't have that wife anymore, and still remembers the solemn of those battlefields and seeing in his mind's eye, how deadly and how hard those battles were, with much respect to them..both sides.
Now, whatever is in your eye, please take something for it, because i know you aren't crying, it's allergies.

This is one of your best videos ever Russ. Yet it still can't let us know of the sounds of battle, the smells of gunpowder and the cries of people in battle. It took days upon days to bury the soldiers that fought bravely for their country. It is amazing yet sad that we had wars here or Europe where ever they may be. Today it is our local police that are fighting for our freedoms in the streets everyday.

Thank you for this video. Many years ago, while visiting the Park, I sat down under the trees in the Cemetery just gazing out and pondering. It was very moving. After a while, through the quiet, I heard the footsteps of a man walking towards me. He was a reenactor, dressed as and looking exactly as we picture Abraham Lincoln. He asked me how I was feeling, and I mentioned solemnity and reverence. As he looked over the Cemetery, I could sense from my view of his profile, somberness and even some pain. He spoke to me as Mr. Lincoln would have, talked about having to give a speech there soon, and said he was praying that he could find the right words to say. He stayed only a while, and I watched him walk away. I will never ever forget this. If I didn't know better, I would say I spoke to Mr. Lincoln himself that day. Gettysburg National Park has special places, and every visitor will find their own.
