Went looking for this after the news of LMP's passing today. Sad that the MJ "relationship" is probably what most people think when her name is mentioned, but RIP.

I never thought Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie's kiss was awkward. I think it was just projection from people who thought the marriage was fake.

So yes, it was more than awkward because, as usual with Michael Jackson, it was all about controling his public image.

I tried this to see the kind of MJ sketch they did. Terrible. So lazy, repetitive, painfully inaccurate impressions and dragged on way too long. MadTV definitely mops the floor with them on so many levels and much more creative.

@Elvis walker Here's the context. Back in August 1993 M. Jackson was accused of child sexual abused for the first time. It was one of the biggest scandals show business had ever known. A few month later in early 1994, Jackson's team arranged a financial settlement with the accuser and the case was closed. In May of the same year, Michael Jackson, who had never been seen publicly in couple with a woman, surprisingly married Lisa Mary Presley, Elvis Presley's daughter. Four months later, he opened the MTV Video Music Awards ceremony hand in hand with his new wife, and french-kissed her on the scene in front of the World. The scene in itself was very awkward and unexpected from Michael Jackson, but it was even more disturbing because it was obvious that Jackson was using this lady to control his public image and try to show the World that he was a "normal heterosexual guy" and was not a pedophile. Of course it only made his case worse, the two of them were seen as an odd couple and people didn't buy it. A few months later when Jackson released his first album since the accusations he did a live interview with Diane Sawyer, once again appearing with his wife right next to him, both of them trying hard to show they were a "normal" couple. This skit is just perfectly caricaturing what Jackson was all about at the time.
