  • This video covers the Starlink Pivot Mount for the Gen 3 Starlink dish. The Pivot Mount is designed to attach directly to a shingled roof. I do an unboxing to see what the kit contains, and walk you through the installation process step-by-step. I give my review along the way, sharing my thoughts and impressions.

    Forgot to mention: Starlink does not provide any kind of wind rating for this mount. Like I said in the video, the part that actually attaches to your roof is rock solid with those lag bolts properly installed. I don't think you would have any issues in normal weather areas that see 40-60 mph winds.

    This video was clear and concise. For those that never have done an install on their roof, not only do you make it look so simple, but you enable us folks with enough confidence to do the job. Excellent video Colby.

    You mentioned that the post and antenna base plate once snapped together are difficult to separate. If possible, how can it be dome? I need to ship the pivot mount in the original box. Thank you!

    I ❤ my star link. But the progression of neat accessories are a bit slow kinda like using the horse after the cart but I'm reminded how slower pie pan providers have no bandwidth for much the same $ I'm thankful, Deep in the hill of WV. 😂

    great video! I purchased a gen 3 dish and adapter (each separately). Is there a place to buy the mast separately?

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  Před měsícem

      No, the mast is only offered through the mount kits. If you bought the pipe adapter for Gen 3, that adapter is designed to attach to your own mount or pipe, usually some kind of 3rd party mount like a J-Mount.

    What are your thoughts on mounting it on the side of the roof using the pivot mount?

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  Před 2 měsíci +1

      It can be done if there isn’t any overhang between the fascia board and the shingles, but might as well just get the Standard Wall Mount if mounting to a vertical surface.

    I purchased a pivot mount and a gen 3 disk, and also have the adapter plate for the dish. However I need to buy a mast. Any suggestions on where to buy one?

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  Před měsícem

      You must have purchased the Gen 2 Pivot Mount if it did not come with a mast section like in the video. I recommend reaching out to Starlink support to get the right mount kit shipped out, and you can return the Gen 2 version for a refund.

    Bro you think it will hold with strong winds?, i kinda live in a very open area where winds go crazy. Its the only thing im worried if i get this mount and its kinda pricey. tia!

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  Před 2 měsíci

      Based on my experience with other Gen 3 mounts, it can handle 50-60 mph gusts no problem. The difference between this mount and others is the mounting base that secures to the roof. It’s rock solid.

    Might have been a better idea to install the top layer of tape underneath the top course of shingles. Just a thought…

    How difficult is it to remove the dish from the mount? I looking to be able to take the dish to different locations several times a year.

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Super easy. You just lift up on the tab on the adapter plate and slide it off, then unplug the cable. It would be easy to take off the mount and then use the kickstand mount for traveling with the dish.

    Does the Gen 2 dish fit this bracket?

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  Před 2 měsíci +1

      It doesn’t fit this version, but Starlink sells a Gen 2 Pivot Mount. The install would be pretty much the same process.

    I'm thinking a Gen 4 will be out very shortly. Gen 3 seems very cheaply made and not so well engineered.

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  Před měsícem

      I wouldn’t count on it. The worldwide rollout of Gen 3 has really just started. The US got it in December, but it’s still only available in about 10 countries 6 months later. They will be producing and selling these for awhile. It also takes quite a bit of testing before a new hardware version is released. We saw FCC approvals months before Gen 3 was released, and there is no indication they are even working on the next version beyond just concepts and ideas. Also, the mini version is the next to arrive, followed by a new high performance. Next gen is at least a year and a half away if I had to guess.
      Despite being cheaper to make, it doesn’t affect the performance or functionality of the dish at all, at least in my nearly 6 months of testing. I don’t think there is any reason they would push up development of a new version.

    All that sway, according to the MANUAL that comes with this Mount, is a HUGE NO NO! Why do you sayings no problem when the company says it shouldn’t move AT ALL or you risk the destruction of your $666.97 antenna?

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  Před měsícem +1

      Like I said in the video, all Gen 3 mounts do this. It’s just how it is. No real risk to the dish from the minor play that is built into the mount.
