    Rob & Sarah asked if Mexico was any different than China when talking about where a tool is made. To me, it is!
    -------------------------------------------------
    If given the choice I will send my money to Mexico Vs China every single day. I do hope Made in the USA and Made in Canada come back soon and bring with it a quality product that is not just something assembled here with global products.
    Everyone talks about a global market, but as we are seeing these days, when one place has a problem, we have shortages. In many ways, we have to make sure we can make everything needed to take care of our communities here in our country. When we rely on someone else, things can go wrong quickly. We will never get away from a global economy, but working towards one where we have the tools to survive if needed is important. Most of us live our lives in the same manner.

    Appreciate you taking the time to talk more on the subject Brian. Couple of things.
    Our comment on sponsorship is pretty simple. Our channel is not a hobby. It's a business. We take sponsorship dollars so we don't have to take money from our viewers. It's how TV has always worked. But to suggest we're "only doing it for the money" is a bit shallow and presumptuous no? We love our jobs. We love our viewers. We love tools. This is insanely fun for us, and we're blessed to be able to do it. But if we're not getting paid, we CAN'T do it. Simple as that. I don't know what your family eats, but ours eat food, and that's expensive. That's what that statement meant.
    Our question posed in our video wasn't about China being great, (I have zero reasons to defend their government) it was about asking the question "Is 'Made in Mexico' more patriotic than 'Made in China'". And we got a TON of great comments making that exact case. For the most part, I agreed with them. There are a lot of assumed benefits (hard to get proof) that buying from Mexico is a better idea than China, if that's important to you as a consumer.
    I feel bad that our sponsorship got in the way of the question, and distorted the dialog. But again, for the most part, I got what I wanted from it. I wanted to hear expansion on your statement, and we got that in spades from both you, and our viewers. It was a good subject, and I think we as a community need to keep talking about it.
    Keep it up man. We appreciate your videos!

      Watching a video from Belts & Boxes SCREAMS FAKE. The videos that are suggested from their channel is copied content from other channels. It seems like they can't even create their own content. If they can't see the benefits from MADE IN MEXICO to MADE IN CHINA, well they have lost their way. And, it is NOT how CZcams works. Providing GOOD content will attract subscribers which in turn creates revenue. Them relying on Sponsorship dollar's explains everything. AMERICA FIRST

      I alluded to this in another comment, but China is the predominant threat to our way of life. The Chinese people do not enjoy the same level of freedom of speech or religion, human rights, animal rights, or environmental regulations and pollution control. The country still has slave camps and ethnic cleansing in the year 2021. This isn't some third world autocracy; this is the world's second most-powerful economy, on track to overtake the US within a few decades (or much sooner, by many estimates).
      They are already exporting their oppression to western nations, in which a museum in France was threatened because they mentioned "Genghis Khan" in a Genghis Khan exhibit, an American entertainer apologized in mandarin because he mentioned that Taiwan is a country (and not a Chinese province, which is true), and the entire NBA was groveling when one General Manager for one team tweeted in support of the people of Hong Kong. China's oppression will only become more powerful if we keep feeding them.
      If the people of the world don't take a stand, it's apparent that the governments and corporations won't defend freedom on our behalf. They are taking the world over economically, but they are doing it so thoroughly, that it might as well be a military takeover.

    I do like that Makita actually makes most of their electronic components in Japan and even some tools are fully Japanese made. Even the tools that have final assembly done in China are made in a factory that is actually owned and managed by Makita's Japanese team; so there's no way that people are being taken advantage of and they're putting out a product of very fine quality. You don't get that with Milwaukee and I'm saying that as a massive Milwaukee fan, but it's just a mildly unpleasant feeling when you see made in China written on the back. It's an ethical dilemma that should absolutely be discussed and I'm glad you made this video.

I buy Klein, All-Clad, etc., but even now you have to pay close attention because some of their product lines are now made overseas. When I can’t buy American, I try to buy whatever is available from a country more aligned with our Western values, like Canada, Japan, Taiwan, or Germany. But unfortunately, because of globalism I can’t avoid any and all “Made in China” products because sometimes there are no alternatives no matter the price point.
    Regarding clothing, a trend I’m seeing is that many of my clothing is made in India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Singapore, and Eastern European countries. My shoes are made in Viet Nam, and although they’re a communist country, they hate the CCP as much as we do.
    As demonstrated with the scores of fighter jets that are not currently mission-capable due to shortages of critical components sourced overseas, if we don’t bring more manufacturing back to the US or US-aligned countries, the chickens will come home to roost.

    (At 4:27) Back when this was a manufacturing economy, every corporation bragged about its support for the local community
    Today, no more self-congratulatory ads about serving the community, and factories are shuttered. Students no longer can afford any post-secondary trainig, and forget about college.
    Not surprisingly, the greediest "educational lenders" are in it for the money, only. The financial industry is estimated at 40 percent of the entire US economy, and all that value is profit without actual production. Banks and funds lend and profit all day without producing a single tangible item.

    I’m on the fence about this. I’ve read and watched a lot of videos say the quality is overall better quality then Mexican parts especially if it’s from a better higher end Chinese factory. I would rather have Mexican built parts for many of the reasons mentioned in the comments already. China is taking over and if we don’t stop the rich Americans from making everything over there for a higher profit, our children and grandchildren children will be learning Chinese

    There is global competition, 60% of the revenue returns to the USA, and 40% stays in China, etc. Free trade reduces wars (more costly) and build alliances. US labor is expensive, so the goal is to educate US students to be engineers so as to design robots with AI that will replace Chinese workers eventually. The US has a competitive advantage with higher education. We still need manufacturing in the US for national defense, intellectual property in high tech industries. Supply chains problems may also return some manufacturing. US labor has shifted to logistics (Amazon) and mainly a service economy (68%). So, a $200 bike at Walmart would cost families maybe $400 made in the USA. Now that family has $200 extra for a better quality of life, it keeps inflation down. Walmart also makes a little more profit, so they can raise their minimum wage. Global competition also gives us better quality cars, TVs, tools, everything. Economics is about using scarce resources efficiently. American innovation and new technology are the key as it is constantly changing, thinks EV vehicles, medicine, software, science, mechanized agriculture, aerospace, etc. The US should manufacture premier high-tech products like the Germans and be ready to pivot as technology changes. So, our kids need the best education as they don't want to sew clothes in factories or pick oranges in Florida.

    That comment struck a cord with me when I watched your video the other day. I feel the same way, better Mexico than China. We have sold our souls to China. We are used to paying the lowest price. Nobody wants to pay and nobody wants to put in the work. Sadly China will overtake the US as the dominant super power within our lifetime and we can only blame ourselves. Corporations, government, and us are all to blame. We are gladly sending our money to them. Not sure if we can course correct. China has the perfect mix of capitalistic funding with communistic control. It's scary. Keep up the great work on this channel!

    Chervon is a China based company but they also have production facilities in Steinheim, Germany. Mind, they acquired Flex from the original German company and that included taking over the factory... So it may vary per tool but the Flex line isn't 100% China...
    While also mind China has been buying up some American companies, like the recent acquisition of SK Tools but they're keeping the facilities in the states. So that made in American line is getting blurred in more ways than one...

    I share your same feeling. I often bring up the subject to others asking people if they remember the time when many of the items we see and use daily were Made in Mexico or Made in Canada. Buying stuff Made in China was only as as a last resort due to their poor quality. But Taiwan was known acceptable as you can always expect better QC.
    Buying from cheap from China will only hurt us Americans in the long run as American company's are force to close not being able to match Chinas low labor cost. When China is the only place you can get things from they now have the upperhand and can raise prices to whatever they want because they will not have any competition.
    Just think about it, how can I order something from China with free shipping. Meanwhile I order something locally and it'll cost me something like $10 in shipping There is something clearly wrong there

    Alright Ima just straight ahead and tell you. Even if items are manufactured in the US, whats gonna happen is the goods are not going to be competitive globally in terms of pricing, in the USA the cost of transferring goods, or the cost of even made by robots are still significantly higher than in China, so with the consideration of Patriotic Americans it simply only will cause isolation. we know what happened to countries that isolated for 50 years like Japan and China and until now north Korea. Basically (if you disengage in global trades) you will be at disadvantage.

    • @WorkshopAddict

    • @sprockkets
      @sprockkets Před 2 lety

      It's only "higher" because you have to pay someone a halfway decent wage to make it. No, don't tell me the cost of living is cheaper in China. Making your stuff in a country with a poor or low cost of living to sell with a higher profit margin in the USA is short-sighted, but really the money all goes to the people at the top.
      For that matter we basically have no quality made stuff in the USA anymore. But if you manage to find it the price of it is absurd due to low supply.

    • @r3dpowel796
      @r3dpowel796 Před 2 lety

      @@sprockkets supply is just a small part of it. The cost of transporting minerals and the goods its self is also another cost. also, skill labour and the cost of basically everything even establish the market to sell is also expensive.

    While the world's governments preoccupy themselves with China's military advancements, China is busy taking the world over economically, and we keep throwing more money at them and apologizing on TV for mentioning the existence of the country Taiwan.
    A Genghis Khan museum in Paris removes the words "Genghis Khan" from all of their exhibits, and an entire sports league in the US grovels over one GM's public support for the people of Hong Kong.
    The country on pace to become the global economic leader has no concern for child labor, standards of work and living, freedom of speech or religion, personal privacy, slavery, genocide, ethnic cleansing, animal cruelty, international boundaries, pollution and the environment, or theft of intellectual property. They'll do whatever it takes to get ahead, and we're enabling it by sending them money. It's a matter of personal morals for me.
