- A few weeks ago, a customer of mine sent me a picture of a shrimp that he wanted me to tie for him. I had never seen this style shrimp before but gave it a go. After tying one, I realized just how nice this design was. The dubbed body gave a sorta transparent look, and the rest of the fly mimicked a shrimp perfectly! Absolutely one of the nicest shrimp patterns I have ever tied. I really like it. To be honest I cannot find this fly anywhere, so I cannot tell you exactly what it is called. So I am calling my version the Dubbed body shrimp. If any of you know the fly, and the name. Please tell me. Thank you!
Here is a list of materials used on the fly.

Tied these as my first shrimp fly for striped bass. Fairly easy tie and works like a charm
Nice, do you caught a few?
Excellent tutorial. You make it look so easy! I’ve got to get out to fly fish the surf. That was always a lot of fun!
Let’s go! I’m gonna probably go either Sunday (tomorrow) or Monday... and I’ll try to get out some time the following week also. Gonna fish the surf a few times before going and filming the salten sea. Let me know via email when you can go.
I like your dubbing loop method! Definitely going to try it.
Thanks!
I've been making flies similar to this for freshwater bonefish. (Carp.) Awesome video!
Thanks! Oh I love carp fishing!
Looks Great
Thanks!
Excellent, to the point!
Thanks
Hot dogs! That's really a good looking shrimp pattern. Thinks for sharing and God bless. Walter
👍
Heck yeah, I like it.
Thanks! :)
Haha, that's a great fly! I'm going to tie some. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks
excellent work sir...
Thanks
Looks like a really good sw fly. I guess you're going to be hitting the salt more often now. Good to see some fly tying on your channel. Cheers
Thanks! Yeah I’m gonna be fishing salt now much more often...
Very nice. 🤙 I’ll have to make a few of these for a hopefully soon to happen Mexico trip
Nice good luck man!
Nice
Thanks
Work in rivers that have crawdads too caught a nice size rainbow recently using one of these in the Rio Grande.
Nice! Yeah shrimp and crayfish patterns aren’t too far off from overall design.
Hey McFly I see you made it to my inbox via the Fly Tying Forum. Good job buddy, oh and a nice fly too.
Thanks! And what did you mean by the inbox? Sorry I am not 100% sure I know whatcha mean.
My email inbox. I know, how 20th century.
I know what an inbox is, just don’t know how I made it there. Or are you asking me to go check out my inbox? Sorry! Hahahaha. I feel dumb
I forwarded the email to you. I don't know how it got there either.
Ohhhh. Now I see whatcha mean. Haha.
😍
Glad you like it
Looks like the fly you copied was probably one of Enrico Puglisi's EP Spawning Shrimps, but you substituted dubbing spun in a loop for the (expensive) dubbing brush in Puglisi's original. Have a look at the ones on his website.
I forgot if I mentioned in the video but someone asked me to tie a fly and gave me a picture of one. I did my best to come up with something similar. Thanks I’ll check out the EP fly. I don’t think so though, I think it was something else but I could be wrong.
mine 😎😎
👍
Does this mean that you are traveling somewhere tropical?
Sorta... I mean it’s CA, not necessarily tropical here. But if you read the description, this was for someone that bought flies for me.
From me, not for me
