I fully agree, but this "intellectual jazz" you refer to is not intellectual at all. It's pretentious, contrived, soul-less, anti-musical gibberish.

She has the chops of OP. Bass and drum are specialists. (Reminds me of Ichiro baseball player, the scientist of baseball physics.) Best use of dynamics I've heard for some time. Swings like mad. Nothing wasted here... All elements brilliant.
Manami, the pianist definitely has the chops of Oscar Peterson as you've mentioned.

Great performance, great jazz, the group really swings. Comparing with Oscar Petersen"s performance recorded in the 1960s this version is more varied and allows all the musicians to express themselves, bravo!

Mainly musicians that are professionally performing in the Osaka/Kansai area.

Japanese jazz and fusion is typically the star with session men and women. A band put together for the day that sounds like they've been together for years is standard, even for complicated fusion stuff they read off of charts. It took me a while before I could believe it.

I never get to wear them anymore, unfortunately, but my several bow ties are still in use. Everything is changing. I am so glad all of you dress up to perform. Japan, it seems to me, is the only country that still cultivates respect for others. Keep it up!

This channel initially started to support a jazz club that used to exist in Kitashinchi area in Osaka.(The first dozen videos on this channel were shot at that venue "Jazz Bar Buddies" that unfortunately closed during this pandemic situation...)
