A very nice video. One very big difference of the aoshima kitt models is the custom fronts are screen accurate to where the mpc kit never had the correct shape and properties as the TV cars.also the aoshima models have clear parts for the scanner and all exterior lights.

Excellent review and comparison of the Knight Riders kits, thanks for doing this. I look forward to seeing your finished project, sounds like it will be a fun build. Cheers!

Thanks! I hope to have an update before the end of the week. I went ahead and pulled the electronics out of a Hallmark Knight Rider ornament last night. I can power it wit the same 3 volts I will use to power the scanner and my circuit tests look promising. I just need to figure out how to get it all to fit.

I just purchased the original Mpc from 82 with corvette contest still in original package. Had to have it for my collection

Nice score. Plus the molds were the cleanest they would get.

I realize that this video is a few years old but I just came across it so it's new to me and I really need to leave a comment. I am a model car Fanatic or Nut depending on who you talk to and I just want to say Thank you for such a great review and information on these kits. I would love to see more of this type of videos on model kits. Again, Thank you.
    Jeff

llouie llouie Thanks. While I have been slow to finish model projects, the history of specific iconic (or at least popular) model kits has always fascinated me. So it is nice to know someone else who appreciates that. More videos are coming soon.

Pontiac changed the hood in 1985 -the original kit also had the dual resonator exhaust system which stopped in 84 or 85-also the side vents on the fender were the same on Trans Am from 82-84-85-90 had smaller louvers.nice job on the review and I look forward to seeing more in the future.

An interesting and thorough video, although what you didn’t mention is that the Aoshima kit is by far the most accurate in appearance. The nose on the AMT/MPC model is much too chunky and angular. Neither are 100% accurate, but I think the Japanese model is much closer to being correct.

Well the GTA would be close to what is used in Knight Rider 2000 show, so it's kinda still cannon even if it's not perfect.

Informative video learnt alot from all the previous Knight Rider model kits, so thanks. Although i wish the remote control ones were kinda throw in there though.

Excellent review. However, the first two trans ams were not used on knight rider. The show had started filming in May 1982, and the first trans arms came off the lot in late august 1981. Knight Rider historians debunked this myth.

had experience building the 1st gen mpc, last gen mpc, the amt and the aoshima. i might say except for lacking an engine, aoshima is superior. currently building an s4 convertible. hope to finish it soon.

Funny this came up as I am considering resurrecting the project soon. The Aoshima is indeed more trouble free, but I do love a challenge and all parts are ready for project resumption.

I just came across this video looking for a good Knight Rider kit to complete my set of childhood icon model car builds (I built a General Lee last year and I’m working on a ‘77 Bandit Trans Am right now). I noticed the Aoshima kit does NOT have an engine detail and the hood is molded solidly with the body. I thought that should be pointed out, as I canceled my order after I realized that.

Yes, the Aoshima kit is curbside (no engine) so the MPC/AMT kit is your only choice if you wish to have an open hood.
